Treat to eyes not to heart!!!

A portrayal of a fathers dilemma contradicting with a man's psychology which leads towards frustration and a never ending suffocation!

We all know the story and the characters well enough! Now if we stick to that, "Doob" might a bit bizarre and puts you in disguise! But what if we consider it as a tale of "Mr. Javed Hasan".? It's apparently palatable.

Doob is not that a pacy film but not boring either. Second half had better grip than the first. What I really feel about the film, it contains less content and ends suddenly.

Mr. Khan stole the show with minor glitches as he was apparently not use to the language and this kind of unorthodox filmmaking but he did justice to the character. I wish "Saberi" were played by Parno instead of Tisha, though both of them acted "thikthak". Bothered of Prachi's act. She might have portrayed a character of less expression but she seemed totally pale!

Talking of the filmmaking, it's the same old preset of Farooki with a bit of mature cinematography this time. Though the cinematography is utterly captivating but it got a bit overcooked as the story gets lost in it! Music and background score was good but there should have an another song! To some extent i do feel Doob is made only for the international festival purposes and not appropriate for the local hall ambiances.

The reasons behind most of the audiences are castigating Doob is that it promised a lot with keeping them waited and guessed for a long time. Nonetheless it's also uttered to be the most ambitious project of Farooki after a long hiatus which portrayed their hero! in a satirical way.

Its not Bachelor, Made in Bangladesh or even Television, it's Doob and you cannot enjoy it with a laughter. Keep calm, find an appropriate companion, expect less, forget Mr. Ahmed and concentrate on Mr. Hasan....you might love it!

Not as good a expected

Starting of this movie was exceptional.In the middle things started getting confusing and the pace was lost.There are parts in this movie it is bland, no dialogue.moreover while rest of cast was speaking Bengali. zahid hasan (played by Irfan Khan)was speaking in English . Moreover huge parts of the movie were censored. The whole movie felt uncomplete

Disappointing given the source material

The real-life events this movie is based on was a huge scandal and a movie about that is likely to catch the attention of those who have heard of the scandal. It's an art house film. It stars famous actors from Bangladesh and West Bengal. To top it off, the star is Irrfan Khan of both Bollywood and Hollywood fame. This movie should have international acclaim. Expectations are high. And it disappoints. Terrible pacing. Characters are not established well. If you didn't know the backstory, you'd be hopelessly lost. If you know the backstory, you still need to work really hard to map the fictional characters to the real-life people. The dialogue felt unnatural. And it was So. Slow. I was expecting a nuanced depiction of the scandal, but it the movie only ever scratched the surface and never dug deep. It wasted all it's time on irrelevant flashback shots.

An average story, great execution ...

"By going far away, we become closer to ourselves." A married filmmaker divorces his wife of 15-20 years and remarries a girl half his age, his daughter's classmate!!!! A taboo!!!. Irfan Khan gives one of the best performances of his career. Trisha as his daughter is brilliant as she depicts many shades of emotions flawlessly. Rest of the cast deliver convincing performances. A run-of-the-mill storyline but some of the aesthetics of the movie are well designed and executed and that lift the movie from a midpoint . A great watch! It was a Bangladesh entry for the Best Foreign Language film at 91st Academy Awards.

Would have been way better

Not good as expected, direction was poor and selecting a non-Bengali actor ( though Irrfan is one of my favorite actors) as a Bengali director was a bad idea

Interesting story line with amazing cinematography! Not necessarily a biopic!

I think for people who have been internalising this story as a cut out from the life of one of the greatest author that Bangladesh has ever seen, were heavily misguided by their own convictions. It can work as influence for Farooki to set out the story, not necessarily he tried only to depict that. The way i see it, it has shown multi-variant aspects of social bond.

Delicately touched on the issue of high price that you have to pay when think out of the ordinary. The imminent effect which can bring diabolical consequences if you take radical decision which is a direct contradiction to existing social silos.

This really gives hope because no one was bold enough to dig up these kind of issues on broader audiences of developing world.

Having said, i also felt the movie was a bit sluggish at some point. But I don't want to sound like a snob because i know how many impactful work farooki has done already. May be it was catering his vision about this film specifically.

Just watched it, as soon as it came out on Netflix. Had to go to bed late, was late for the office but it was totally worth it. Thanks!!!

Had to open IMDB account just to review this piece of junk.

The poster boy of our Bangladeshi cinema Mostofa Sarwar Farooki was my idol,thought he was the guy who will bring revolution to cinema and give our cinema a new language and set a benchmark that young film makers will follow.But seeing his last couple of films i think our industry has to wait a bit longer to find a trendsetter.Now coming to the film i must say farooki outdone himself in this movie.he is like in a competition with himself how to make the worst movie than the previous one.He had the opportunity to make an epic movie at least a decent one as the story of the film revolves around famous writer in Bangladesh and people were hyped about it.Then he had this ridiculous idea to cast an indo international star who can barely speak bangla but portrays a bengali film director.Tried to tell the story in non linear way but failed miserably.The film didn't gave me any emotional attachment to the characters and i felt the film was very shallow.I dont mind watching slow paced cinema or if its over 3 hours as long it holds the attention but irfans acting with farookis trademark tacky camera movement the film become intolerable.The film should be called Doob:102 mints of DISAPPOINTMENT .At least the title will give a heads up to the people.

Highly pretentious

A poorly scripted, poorly crafted, poorly composed with huge pretention of an art film dating to last century. Some interesting architecture and beautiful outdoor locale relieved the tedium. Irfan is wasted in this Indo- Bangladesh production a year ahead of falling seriously ill.

Doob: a refreshing experience from contemporary Bangla cinema

When you look at the big screen inside the huge dark auditorium, after the very moment, when light gets off, you start to expect many thing from the screen. You demand with your own aesthetics and sensibilities, you judge with your own sense of value judgement and morality, you try to get hold of things which are there on screen. A review is nothing but the subjective interpretation of these expectations, where, this title and this review is nothing exceptional.

Going back to the main question, what do you expect from a movie? I can't answer any other's statements as deeply as I can answer my own. I expect a movie to be "A Movie" at first, everything else is less important to me. Obviously that doesn't mean that a film is showing genocide in a very artistic way and my mode of reception is positive with the film. The problem with any kind of afterthought is that this is bound to be subjective, and the dangerous debate and miscommunication which is happening in Bangladesh now, is utterly unnecessary and 'cinema-less', if not unexpected and regressive. "Doob" is a fascinating movie experience for me. After a long time finally I've succeeded to speak for a contemporary industry-produced 'Bangla' movie whole heartedly. We know the sort of pros and cons of working within the heinous circle of any film industry, but, I've to appreciate the major mature steps which Farooki took in the course of making this movie.

Aesthetically, most of the time the movie relied on a very subtle tone and an intimate texture. There are no extra scenes or running motions within the sequence. (Though he can't retain this mature treatment throughout the movie) There are lots of pause and spaces, as the basic human relationships and emotions are. We cannot rush up everything in our 'real' mode of relationships, why should we continuously cut back and forth within one scene and destroy the spatial continuity of the 'realistic' cinema? 'Doob' respects the space between two people, the pause, the subtle gaze, the loss of words. It doesn't try to rush up everything with a single aim to tell the story. In other words, "Doob" adopts an aesthetic to create the story, rather than telling everything in a running mode.

Obviously there are flaws. Which work of art is perfect in the world? But it is the positive power of the film that it can engage the viewer with a serious mode of communication, one wants to forget about the problematic parts soon after watching the movie.

Finally the debate concerning the morality and the 'biopic-like' aspects of this movie, is, at least to me, an utter bullshit. Film, as any other serious art form, offers a parallel world of reality, which should be judged only with its own aesthetics and language. As far as this movie in concerned, it is an extraordinary piece of work which have managed to be a 'film' in the true sense of the term. Everything else (namely, the morality, biopic-like assumptions and other nonsense) doesn't matter at all.

Average movie

Did not like it so much

I was really waited for this movie for a long time.But its really a disappointment. There is no story and its very very slow. If u have insomnia then try it. I think you'll be benefited.The acting was good and also the cinematography. But it had no story-line. Like a living man without a purpose. Save your money and save you valuable time.

Revenge Play

It's a pure revenge from #Farooki over #Shaon. Every single character and moment spoke to the point. The inner part of #Humayun Ahmed was tried to disclosed besides other facts had been clarified before the inquisitives.

Global Film fan ....but not of garbage!

This film is really a waste of time. There seems to be no script other than a few lines of made up dialog, poor acting, choppy editing and a profound lack of continuity to tell a coherent story. The actors tend to stare at one another constantly and the pace of the movie is soporific! A complete waste of time!

The Movie I needed to Cry Out My Inner Being

I cried almost half of it. My friends went frenzy watching me crying. An adult male crying watching a movie could sound ridiculous. But I watched my own life portrayed there with every bit of empathy I have, I shed it and enriched it with every drop of tears I shed. Thank you Farooki.

A beautiful movie

I had an awesome experience watching this film. Nice plot, flawless acting. This was nailed by Irfan Khan & Tisha. This film may not give you an emotional journey of the roller-coaster variety, but you can feel emotion flowing through each scene. Lovely visuals, too.

Not for general audience at all.

First of all, I am from among the general audience and I did not not like this movie at all. No solid story, it was just full of brilliant camera works, nicely acting, thats all. Highly recommended for the people who loves art films but not for the one who wants entertainment.

So called artistic venture

When you don't have content in your story, you will try to impress the audience by capturing irrelevant objects. Some of the scenes were nonsense and does not go with the flow. How Tisha came to know that her father wants water when she was in upstairs!!! Another scene was when Tisha tried to confront her where she delivered a so high pitched dialogues.....what an act!!!......The whole movie is too slow and boring with huge amount of screen presence of immaterial scenes and characters without anything to do. You need some forbearance to watch this so called artistic masterpiece.

The abyss of relationships, memories and bitterness

Javed Hasan (Irrfan Khan) is a celebrated filmmaker that everyone wants to associate with. He is humble, soft spoken, successful and yet retains his grassroots. However, the spark in his romance with his wife Maya (Rokeya Prachi) has gone missing for sometime as his young daughter Saberi (Nusrat Imrose Tisha) realizes and tries her level best to help rekindle. But Saberi is acutely aware of the underlying problem - it is her childhood friend Nitu (Parno Mitra), who initially desired Javed's affections from their early days now vies to be his romantic interest, and eventually his wife.

Nitu actually succeeds, much to the chagrin of Javed's loving family as he succumbs to the temptation and divorces Maya. This decision of leaving Maya and his two children Saberi and Ahir behind to begin a new life with Nitu would destroy relationships forever, something that Javed cannot recover from, as his family snaps all ties and cuts him off completely.

Doob is a microscopic examination of relationships and their fragility, however strong one may think they are. The decisions one takes can affect everyone around and the outcome is often unsavoury, uncontrollable and irreversible. An Indo-Bangladesh co-production, Doob is a Bengali language film shot is Bangladesh with some breathtaking locales, a haunting music, and a mellow mood. It is artistic and serious, albeit slow and somewhat erratic in its progress with editing shortcomings. Irrfan, Rokeya and Nusrat are masterclass, whilst Parno Mitra is passable with a very brief role.

Junk with No story

I cant believe that Mostofa sarwar farooki made this piece of junk with the irfan khan .I watched it on Netflix - what supposed to represent the Bangladeshi filmmaking to the world rather its a embarrassment . Its supposed to portray the great Bengali writer Humayiun ahamed instead its a terrible documentary on him . No emotion , no character development , no valid reason to watch this junk . I don't have any idea why people scored it more then 2 . Being a Bangladeshi doesn't mean you have to praise a junk - Faruki spoiled his chance to make a masterpiece with Irfan khan .

i have no any words to explain.....

really it was a wonderful experience , after a long time i really watched a movie where i didn't judge the movie , whenever i saw movie started judging the direction , cinematography , editing , story, screenplay etc but in this movie i had flown with rhythm , pace , scenes and i just feel the every moment every part of the movie , its a movie about simple concept, the slide margin between death & life , when death really comes? is there anything which will you get after your death? irrfan sir is one of the finest actor & he was really so honest and finical with his role , you can just feel the pain of javed hasan(irrfan khan) in every words , dialogues & in his eyes.... and finally over all credit goes to the brilliant director Mostofa Sarwar Farooki...

It has become a nothing work by Faruki

This movie (or is it?) is so disappointing for so many reasons, it almost made me (I guess and a lot of people) angry, I am a fan of Faruki and watched his previous works with great interest and liked a lot of them. Yes he stared making telefilm and TV serials, but forgetting about all the technicalities of cinematography - Faruki has his own style of story telling and people love him for that. Now - As much as Faruki and his team deny this was not based on our generations Favorite write Humayun Ahmed - IT IS and anything otherwise is complete LIE and dishonesty, almost creating a cheap controversy to be noticed. Now on the movie and direction and acting and everything else - I am not sure if this is a movie or a documentary or what, But to me, its almost nothing - very wasteful work, now I hear Faruki is telling "Rikshawala" to people who dont like this movie, but just want to say - those are the people who loved your work before and made you famous, so if there is something to be loved, people will - people wont love it because it has won some unknown award no one cares about !!
