Since winning Best Picture and Best Director Oscars for "The Hurt Locker," Kathryn Bigelow has established herself as a fearless chronicler of hot button topics. This gets her in trouble sometimes. While she earned her a good deal of critical accolades for the film (including a Best Picture nod), her 2012 docudrama-thriller about the post-9/11 hunt for Osama bin Laden, "Zero Dark Thirty," was taken to task by some reviewers and politicians for appearing to suggest that the United States' enhanced interrogation techniques (aka "torture") proved useful in finding the whereabouts of the al-Qaeda leader. Five years later, she drew fire again for taking an emotionally distant approach to the Detroit Uprising of 1967 in "Detroit.

Kathryn Bigelow’s A House of Dynamite is not, at its core, about nuclear war. It is about the frightening ease with which the world could stumble into one. Eight years after Detroit, Bigelow returns with a film that feels less like a departure than the logical consequence of her career: taut, unsentimental, and anchored in a realism so sharp that it leaves the audience unnerved long after the credits roll.
The premise is brutally simple. One morning, somewhere in the Pacific, a missile is launched and slips undetected past U.S. defense systems. Nothing is confirmed—its origin, its payload, its intent—but the...

Kathryn Bigelow hasn’t directed a feature film since 2017’s “Detroit,” an eight-year hiatus during which our increasingly unstable world began to bear an uncomfortable resemblance to her geopolitical thrillers. Fortunately, fans of her distinct brand of filmmaking will have another white knuckler to stress over when “A House of Dynamite” premieres this fall.
Bigelow’s new film, which has been branded as one of Netflix’s strongest Oscar contenders of the season, follows a President of the United States (Idris Elba) as he meets with advisors to determine the “best” course of action in the face of a deadly nuclear missile strike.
“A House of Dynamite” is written by Noah Oppenheim, who enjoyed a lengthy TV career as a producer for and eventual president of NBC News before co-creating “Zero Day” and writing films like “Jackie” and “The Maze Runner.” In addition to Elba, the film stars Rebecca Ferguson,...

Kathryn Bigelow‘s gripping political thriller “A House of Dynamite,” which stars Idris Elba as the President of the United States, triggered an 11-minute ovation at the Venice Film Festival, where it premiered in competition on Tuesday night.
As the end credits rolled, Elba helped Bigelow to her feet and they politely applauded along with the audience. Meanwhile, Elba’s co-star Rebecca Ferguson blew kisses around the room in the Sala Grande Theater.
In the orchestra, a small-but-mighty group of fans were shouting, “Rebecca, we love you! Only you!” Bigelow, too, had her share of admirers in the audience. As the ovation approached the 10-minute mark, the crowd started chanting “Bigelow! Bigelow!” The “House of Dynamite” cast and crew basked in the reception — until they didn’t. By the time the cheering and hollering began to settle down, Bigelow, Elba, Ferguson and company were already heading up the stairs for the exit.

Kathryn Bigelow and Netflix have debuted A House of Dynamite at the Venice Film Festival this evening, marking the Oscar-winning filmmaker’s first feature in eight years.
The nuclear thriller opens as an unattributed missile is launched at the United States. As a result, a race begins to determine who is responsible and how to respond.
The movie stars Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, Gabe Basso, Jared Harris, Tracy Letts, Anthony Ramos, Moses Ingram, Jonah Hauer-King, with Greta Lee and Jason Clarke. Script comes from Noah Oppenheim.
The critical reaction so far has been overwhelmingly positive.
Deadline’s Pete Hammond wrote: “[Kathryn Bigelow] hasn’t lost her mojo if this nail biting thriller is any indication. Let’s just hope the world takes notice because this explosive story is scary in many ways, but mostly because it is so completely plausible in the powder keg of a planet we currently exist in.”

Whoa. Kathryn Bigelow just made a surprise sequel to Oppenheimer. This is one of the most intensely thrilling movies of the year. Goodness gracious. My palms are still sweaty writing about it now hours after the screening. A House of Dynamite, which should've kept the original title as stated in the dialogue, A House Filled with Dynamite, is the first feature film made by Kathryn Bigelow since making Detroit in 2017. She's back with a fury, with a vengeance, with a story that is going to stir things up and get people talking. But of course – that's the point. The whole movie is designed to get people to start discussing, well,...

Eight years since her last feature, Kathryn Bigelow returns with an unrelenting chokehold thriller so controlled, kinetic and unsettlingly immersive that you stagger out at the end of it wondering if the world will still be intact. Though it’s less a war film than a drama about the aggressive threat of war, A House of Dynamite is very much of a piece with the director’s later-career gut punches, The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty.
It’s a testament to the justifiably high regard in which Bigelow is held that she has drawn such a deep bench of first-rate actors, several of them onscreen for just a brief scene or two yet all making vivid impressions. The large ensemble cast has no weak link.

The Netflix viewership charts witnessed a major shakeup this weekend, with the longtime champion KPop Demon Hunters slipping down the rankings amid new competition. The animated film has emerged as Netflix's most-watched title of all time, having debuted only a couple of months ago. In those months, it has become a fixture on the charts, despite having had to deal with movies such as Happy Gilmore 2 and Night Always Comes. KPop Demon Hunters fell to the number two spot recently, following the release of The Thursday Murder Club. But the top 10 list also included a rather unexpected title.
Claiming the number 10 spot on Netflix's global rankings on August 31 was the Indian movie Tehran.

Right from the first turn of the ignition, director Potsy Ponciroli lets us know that the things we might expect of an action film set in ’70s Detroit are exactly the things he intends to deliver. A stream of gas-guzzling sedans, a neon motel sign, a load of sawn-off shotguns (remember them?) and a big guy doing a Tom Selleck roll over the hood, despite being already peppered with bullets and having a knife buried in his arm — all the stuff you may recall from Miami Vice, but without the restrictions of primetime. And that’s all before the first title. What Motor City does not have is dialogue. Well, none to speak of, anyway. I’ve read that it has four lines but I counted five, three of which were “I loved you!”, “I loved her” and “I still do”, which tells the story in a nutshell.

A House of Dynamite is a Kathryn Bigelow-directed Netflix film, coming to the streamer on October 24, 2025. The film is poised to be an explosive (literally) action thriller. It will also be Bigelow’s first film for the streamer since Aurora was scrapped.
The official logline for the film reads (via Tudum):
When a single, unattributed missile is launched at the United States, a race begins to determine who is responsible and how to respond.
Government officials must get to work and identify the culprit before the United States is hit with an even bigger threat. We can expect ample political tensions, high stakes, special operatives, and warring nations in the upcoming film.

He broke out with a charming lead role in the British science-fiction film Attack the Block, before being cast in one of the lead roles in Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens. Among his recent films is the drama-thriller Breaking, which was released theatrically in 2022, following a premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. The fact-based movie was compared to the Al Pacino classic Dog Day Afternoon, and earned excellent reviews. Although it didn't make much of a dent at the box office, Breaking is climbing up the streaming charts following its debut on Netflix.
According to FlixPatrol, Breaking was the ninth-most-watched film on Netflix worldwide on August 5. It outperformed An Honest Life, and finished just behind Gladiator II. The...

Thanks to his leading role in Prime Video’s hit action series, Reacher, Alan Ritchson has now become a bona fide action superstar. Possessing the sort of size to rival that of even the “Austrian Oak” himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the charisma to boot, Ritchson putting his name on another action project outside the adventures of Jack Reacher is reason enough to be excited. And, thanks to a near-unrecognizable first look at the actor in Motor City, we could very well have an action thriller classic on our hands.
Alan Ritchson takes the lead in the ‘70s-inspired revenge thriller Motor City, which will reportedly only have five lines of dialogue. Instead, the thriller will let the action do the talking. In the first look image, which you can check out below, Ritchson combines his familiarly huge frame with long hair and a glorious beard as he finds himself behind bars...

Quantic Dream’s Detroit: Become Human is one of the most popular games of this decade, thanks to its intriguing story, characters, and visuals. On the surface level, many believe that the game is about Androids and artificial consciousness, however, the director of the game, David Cage, once pointed out that it is more about human beings than machines.
Detroit: Become Human showcases a future where AI develops consciousness (Image via Quantic Dream)
Many see the future of AI in the game, but it is more than that. Cage strongly believes that AI developing consciousness inspires questions among human beings about who they are. Today, there are many concerns about AI as many believe that there are certain downsides, but Detroit: Become Human almost covered all of it and might have shown people what the future would be like.

Kathryn Bigelow already has two Academy Awards to her name, and she will be back for a buzzy awards run later this year. After making her directorial debut with the biker movie The Loveless (1981), Bigelow made a name for herself directing thrillers, such as Near Dark (1987), Blue Steel (1990), Point Break (1991), Strange Days (1995), and K-19: The Widowmaker (2002).
She gained critical acclaim for The Hurt Locker (2008), about a bomb squad in Iraq, and Bigelow became the first woman to win the Academy Award for Best Director, with the war movie also winning Best Picture. She followed that up with the political thriller Zero Dark Thirty (2012), about the manhunt for Osama bin Laden, and earned another Oscar nomination for Best Picture.
However, her last movie was the crime drama Detroit (2017), but now, the first look at Bigelow's first film in eight years has been revealed.

There are homecomings, and then there are returns. The first suggests a warm embrace, a celebration of origin. The second implies a reckoning, a confrontation with a past self. In Qasim Basir’s To Live and Die and Live, we are thrown directly into the latter.
The film introduces us to Muhammad, a director who has ostensibly built a successful life in the sun-bleached, competitive ecosystem of Los Angeles. He returns to his hometown of Detroit for the somber occasion of his stepfather’s funeral, a man whose community standing was as solid as the buildings he helped erect.
Yet, Muhammad’s first actions are not those of a grieving son seeking solace. He sidesteps family and plunges directly into the city’s nocturnal underbelly, a disorienting blur of cocaine and liquor that immediately signals a deeper crisis. This is not a film about the linear stages of grief; it...

At long last, Netflix is pulling back the curtain on Kathryn Bigelow's mysterious new movie at the streaming service. Since last year, the Oscar-winning director behind The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty, and Point Break has been quietly assembling a star-studded cast for her first feature in eight years, including Idris Elba and Rebecca Ferguson. Only now, however, do we have an official title and release date for her long-awaited return, and it is not far off. The project will go under the name A House of Dynamite and is officially set to stream on the platform on October 24. In a rare move by Netflix, it will also be available in select theaters during the month.
Featuring a screenplay penned by Noah Oppenheim, who previously created Netflix's Robert De Niro-led political thriller series Zero Day, A House of Dynamite is also a thriller centered on the White House.

Before Law & Order or Brooklyn Nine-Nine goofed around booming its iconic ‘dun-dun’, there was NYPD Blue, a raw, gritty, and full of drama that didn’t pull any punches. The show premiered in 1993 and gave viewers a front-row seat to the corruption, chaos, and complicated lives of the 15th Precinct’s finest (and sometimes not-so-fine) in New York City.
The show ran for 12 seasons and became one of the Ogs of police TV drama. NYPD Blue featured themes of tough love, often accompanied by shirtless scenes and detectives who didn’t always play by the rules.
And the cast? Well, let’s just say they were perfect. From the intense Andy Sipowicz to the cool John Kelly, the characters weren’t just solving crimes, they were also dealing with messy personal lives, occasional questionable choices, and drinking problems. Now since the sirens have faded long ago and the precinct doors have closed,...
