Como una novia sin sexo

Bromance is a fairly typical queer coming of age film with nothing really interesting about it other than Daniel (played by Javier De Pietro) is nice to look at.

For what was probably a low budget Bromance is a well crafted and acted film and better than a lot of similar dramas with bigger budgets. But even so, it's essentially a shrug inducing film especially if you've seen a lot of young-guy-struggling-with-identity movies.

The film is set in 1996, something we learn from video tapes Daniel is making of his friends. Why it's 1996 or why the video is initially an element of the film (which is later essentially forgotten) aren't explained. Neither detail add anything to the movie.

Bromance is an OK choice if you're looking for something watchable with some nice looking guys in it.

YES! ...it is possible to find love in the wrong person!

Not perfect, but very realistic and believable. The setup, story, aftermath and conclusion are well written and well executed. I can see how some people may not like the resolution/ending, but I think it is the most probable outcome (as in life). I could fully relate and thought it was spot on!

Three very close male friends and a sexy girl. A simple story, a realistic and fun account about friendship, love, youth, sexual taboo and growing up. 'Como una novia sin sexo' is a good example of what talented young Latin filmmakers are doing with scarce resources. The film has a solid script (Diego Mina & Santa Ana) lucidly directed by Lucas Santa Ana, achieving amazing and natural acting performances with a smartly chosen cast. Director also uses wisely the natural landscape (sea and forest) to support the story.

Had this movie in my queue for a long time as the trailer didn't have me quite sold. Glad I finally rented it. It's a smart, well acted film & has a better production value than the trailer eludes to.

Daniel, Santiago and Adrian are having a summer holiday – camping at a spot that they used when they were kids. The plan is to spend quality mate time together. Daniel wants to record everything on his handy camcorder thing – this is set in 1996 so the technology is of the time.

Soon though the boys proximity to one another and the summer heat combined with the allure of the surf and all it portends gets to one of them and desires, long since repressed, come to the fore.

Now this is a small budget affair with really just four main players the three boys and Juli who rocks up one day and is a force of nature. The original title is 'Coma una novia sin sexo' so Bromance is probably a bit misleading. They do all put in good performances and manage to be engaging and convincing. There is virtually no bedroom – or tentroom – action here either so do avoid if that is what you are looking for. It is well made for a small production but the sub titles are a bit of a let down, badly translated with spelling mistakes etc but that too is not enough to detract from a very good independent film.
