Exclusive: BAFTA and Academy-Award-winning indie production company Cowboy Films has secured the rights in a competitive situation to adapt Cat Fight, the novel by Kit Conway, for TV. The deal was brokered by UTA on behalf of the author.
Bantam will publish the novel in the U.K. on May 15, with the U.S. to follow on June 3 from Atria Books.
Described as Big Little Lies meets Tiger King, Cat Fight is a fun and propulsive novel about three suburban women who, throughout one summer, each use the growing hysteria around a big cat sighting to achieve their own agendas—some more sinister than others. It marks a suspense fiction debut for Conway, who previously worked as a corporate lawyer in London.

If you ever felt Hugh Laurie’s ingenious show, House M.D., was a medical term-heavy show, you might not be incorrect. Yet, the Fox show revolutionized the scope of medical drama with its lucid description of some of the most critical medical terms. One among them is ‘male pseudo hermaphroditism.’
House M.D., after premiering in 2004, revolved around the daily challenges of Dr. Gregory House (Laurie) along with his subordinates in an episodic manner. While the show followed a fairly simple pattern of a patient coming with a mysterious syndrome before being misdiagnosed by House and his “lackeys.” Later, at the end of the episodes, however, Dr. House, like a true genius, wrapped up the cases after finding the disease.
In one such instance in the second season, S2 Episode 13, titled ‘Skin Deep’, House and his associates traversed the bewildering territory of a medical anomaly. As their supermodel patient grappled with the struggle of gender identity,...

Indie filmmaker Onur Tukel has a lot to say in his latest, Poundcake, a horror satire that mixes slasher with political discourse.

The first "Simpsons" Halloween special, first aired on October 25, 1990, was a banner event for the rising tide of "Simpsons" fans. Many a youth rushed to their VCRs that evening, eager to capture on tape an event unprecedented in the show. While "The Simpsons" typically had fewer structural rules than its live-action sitcom counterparts, it was still set in a relatively recognizable world. The Halloween special promised a visit to the supernatural, a tantalizing event to say the least. "The Simpsons" and "Tales from the Crypt" were going to bleed into one another.
1990 was a good time to be a "Simpsons" fan. In addition to the Halloween special, that was also the year that saw the release of the hit album "The Simpsons Sing the Blues." It would only be a few months later that the music video for "Do the Bartman," a single co-written by Michael Jackson, would premiere on TV.

Anne Heche's tragic death following a car crash earlier this month left many with questions.
Now, we have some clarity.
The death of the Men in Trees star at 53 has officially been ruled an accident.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner released a report on Wednesday confirming as much.
Heche's cause of death is listed as inhalation and thermal injuries from a fiery car crash earlier this month.
What's more, the report states that it was an accident.
It says that Heche suffered a "sternal fracture due to blunt trauma" from the car crash.
Sternal fractures typically occur after the chest strikes the steering wheel in motor vehicle collisions.
Heche was behind the wheel of her Mini Cooper when she crashed into a home in the Mar Vista area of Los Angeles.
The car and the home caught fire.
It was so severe that it took 59 firefighters over an hour to control.

Actress Anne Heche was declared legally dead at 53 this week after suffering severe burns following a collision in Los Angeles. Among her recent roles was “Catfight,” in which she starred alongside Sandra Oh as two women in a series of physical altercations over the course of many years. The film’s director, Onur Tukel, sent this reminiscence to IndieWire.
If anyone deserves to write a tribute to Anne Heche, it certainly isn’t me. I don’t have the depth or talent to capture her essence. If Shakespeare were alive, maybe he could do it. Her life was certainly Shakespearean. I could recount the tragedies and dramas that have plagued her life but you can learn that on your own. She wrote a memoir about it. And certainly, you’ve heard the stories: how her father sexually abused her and later succumbed to AIDS, how she was raised in a cult,...

Today we are celebrating the legacy of Anne Heche, a brilliant performer who was never given the acclaim she so rightfully deserved, but with a tragically complicated life off-screen that was lost too soon. For over 30 years, Heche captivated audiences across a multitude of genres in both film and television, taking any role, regardless of size, and delivering it with the prowess of a leading player. As I mentioned in her obituary, Heche performed "with a fearless vulnerability that could not be taught; it just existed within her, seemingly forged in the fire of surviving her difficult life." The loss of Anne Heche is devastating, not only because of the unfortunate circumstances that will unfortunately be forever associated with her passing, but because it denied her the chance to do what her memoir tells us she always strived to do, which is to "heal her life." As we mourn this complex figure,...

In the wake of suffering a severe brain injury one week ago as a result of a devastating car crash, it’s being reported today that Anne Heche has tragically passed away.
The actress was just 53 years old, leaving behind two children.
“Anne had a huge heart and touched everyone she met with her generous spirit,” Heche’s reps said in a statement. “More than her extraordinary talent, she saw spreading kindness and joy as her life’s work — especially moving the needle for acceptance of who you love. She will be remembered for her courageous honesty and dearly missed for her light.”
Heche had been in a coma since the crash in L.A.’s Mar Vista neighborhood on Friday, August 5. She had been under investigation for reportedly driving under the influence.

Anne Heche is reportedly in a coma and in critical condition Monday following a car accident in which her car crashed into a Los Angeles residence on Friday, setting fire to both the home and vehicle.
“She has a significant pulmonary injury requiring mechanical ventilation and burns that require surgical intervention,” a rep for the actress said in a statement sent to media outlets Monday. Heche slipped into a coma shortly after the accident, the rep told CNN.
Heche’s reps previously shared on Saturday that the actress was in “stable condition” after her hospitalization and that Heche’s family was asking for “thoughts and prayers and to respect her privacy during this difficult time.”
The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed in a public report that the car collided into a two-story home in the Mar Vista neighborhood of L.A., causing a fire.

Matthew Morrison is defending himself against allegations that he acted inappropriately toward a contestant on Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance,” saying that he has “nothing to hide” in an Instagram video on Thursday.
The former “Glee” star denied reports that he had sent “flirty” texts to an unidentified contestant. Sarah Jessica Parker is speaking out once more on the current status of her relationship with former “Sex and the City” co-star Kim Catrall — and she’d really like it to stop being labeled a “fight.”
The “And Just Like That…” star got into things a bit on THR’s Awards Chatter podcast, taking the opportunity to clarify the matter. Running through the timeline of events, Parker noted that it has all been very “painful” to hear everything, but that the hardest part has been seeing how the tension has been played up in media coverage — particularly her role in it.
“It’s so painful for people to keep talking about this ‘catfight’ — a fight, a fight, a fight. I’ve never uttered fighting words in my life about anybody that I’ve worked with, ever,” Parker said. “There is not a fight going on. There has been no public...

Kicking things off opening night is the world premiere of Dark Sky Film’s Scenes From An Empty Church. Probably getting some inspiration from “Catfight”, Tomofumi Hasegawa deals with the concept of how certain moments define people, through a distinctly indie approach.
Arano screened at Skip City International D-Cinema Festival
The film begins in a classroom, where the tension between two girls, Fuko and Maeda, becomes obvious almost from the beginning. Eventually, Maeda tells the teacher that Fuko is chewing a gum, with the teacher asking her to spit it out. However, Alan (the title’s Arano) takes a piece of that gum and starts chewing it, something that eventually leads Maeda to physically attack the unsuspecting Fuko a bit later in the school’s corridor. Eventually, Alan asks Fuko to pose for him, with the whole thing going forward early one morning. However, during the posing, Fuko experiences a climax and faints. The homeroom teacher who happened upon the scene misread the situation which resulted in Alan’s expulsion,...

Continuing our series of writers recommending hidden films to stream is a call to watch a stylish 1969 B-movie about figure eight racing
“There’s a suicide born every minute,” quips cynical sports promoter Grant Willard (Brian Donlevy), as he watches figure eight racing drivers dropping – or rather, flipping – like flies. Indeed, the race, with its entropic intersection, seems like utter lunacy at first glance – a one-way ticket to crumpled steel and fatal injury. Yet there’s something uniquely seductive, even irresistible, about the spectacle: the mesmerising rhythm of crashes and crossovers; the music of purring engines and screeching tyres; the way the dust from the track, intermingled with wispy exhaust fumes, catches the glow of the floodlights; and of course, the aggressively masculine bravado of the winner.

"I get it. Why would you want to hang out with a weirdo, like me?" Uncork'd Entertainment has unveiled the first official red band trailer for a brutal horror comedy titled Homewrecker, with a nod to Bloody-Disgusting for dropping this. The film premiered at Fantasia last year, and also played at Fantastic Fest and the Toronto After Dark Film Festival in the fall. Loneliness turns violent when a young interior designer makes a dangerous new friend. It quickly becomes clear that Linda has something far more sinister on her mind than throw pillows. Starring Alex Essoe and Precious Chong as the two women, both of whom also co-wrote the script, along with Anthony Matthews and Kris Siddiqi. This reminds me a bit of the fight comedy Catfight, also about two women battling each other. Might be a fun one to watch with some friends. Here's the official red band trailer...

First-time filmmaker Ariel Kavoussi hit upon a very relatable idea when she began working on her debut film: why not twist the trope of the mediocre white man into something a bit more satisfying? She turned her fantasy into reality in “The Poet and the Professor,” a short film starring Kavoussi as a woman stuck in a love triangle with two pathetic older men, played by Kevin Corrigan and Bob Byington. The film’s title is a reference to Jean Eustache’s 1973 film “The Mother and the Whore,” and also features a love triangle as its narrative core. By inverting the genders and centering her (deeply flawed) character, Kavoussi has made a truly absurdist, provocative, and contemporary feminist film.
“Female desire is not the simple, one-dimensional thing most mainstream films have lazily pigeonholed it to be,” Kavoussi said in a statement. Her goal with the film, she added, was to...

In years past, Lgbt cinephiles counted themselves lucky for one decent movie with a queer storyline. Looking at the depth and breadth of Lgbt films to come out in 2017, it’s clear that “Moonlight” was just a harbinger of great things to come for queer cinema. With growing social acceptance comes increased funding for movies with queer themes, support for Lgbt-identified filmmakers, and less stigma around straight actors playing gay. This year brought a breakthrough performance from transgender actress Daniela Vega, saw A-lister Emma Stone play lesbian icon Billie Jean King, and a strong Oscar contender in Luca Guadagnino’s sumptuous “Call Me By Your Name.”

The indie provocateur behind “Catfight,” “Applesauce” and “Summer of Blood” decided to explore how a Trump supporter experienced the fateful night. This tongue-in-cheek exploration of a divided America digs deep into the night’s mass existential crisis, finding disquieting results. Dylan Baker (“The Americans”) leads the cast with a gleefully deranged performance, altnerately provoking and pontificating throughout the film’s wild first teaser trailer.

For those obsessed with the lurid things in life, a campy new biopic on notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer’s teenage years is sure to satisfy. In the official trailer for “My Friend Dahmer,” which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year, Disney Channel star Ross Lynch inhabits the role of the teenaged murderer with an eerie calmness. Anne Heche makes a brief but memorable appearance as Dahmer’s troubled mother, and Dallas Roberts (“Dallas Buyers Club”) plays his tortured father.
One of America’s most infamous serial killers, Dahmer murdered 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991 before being captured and incarcerated. “My Friend Dahmer” tells the story of what happened to make him that way. Directed by Marc Meyers, the film is based on a graphic novel by Derf Backderf, who knew Dahmer in high school and appears as a character in the film.
