Decent thriller but nothing new if u have seen Eden lake, Storm warning n Preservation.

Saw this recently on a pirated DVD. It is about a couple who retreat to the woods on a romantic camping trip. Things don't go well....... Nowhere close to Eden lake, Preservation or Storm warning. These names should be suffice to explain in short what this movie is about. In Eden lake, the tension, violence n the ending was shocking. While in Storm warning, the gore n the killings were brutal. Preservation was decent but Killing ground failed to impress. Well, it wasn't boring or messed up but at times i found it hard to sit through certain scenes. Two things i cannot bear even on screen is rape n any harm towards kids. Thankfully the director avoided abusive scenes but even some off screen scenes were a bit too hard for me. The character development of the bad guys were done well. They are given nearly as much screen time as the main leads. The bearded villain looked like Mel Gibson from Blood father. The movies non linear approach to story telling might appeal to some viewers but there isn't any originality in it.

This one's pretty good.

It's one of those movies that's very disturbing without needing to say very much. You realize how dramatic some movies can be when you see a movie like this one that does so little to tell us what's going on. In that sense it's brilliant.

It's a perfect example of why you should never go out in the woods, cause two campers went out there thinking it was cool but discover that the campers roughing it on the same camp site did not have a wonderful experience, when a couple of dim witted hunters prove that nature is not all it's cracked up to be.

Killing ground was a well made film that speaks softly but says a lot.

A solid film whose genius moments come from its eerie setting and creepy atmosphere

Killing Grounds was, at first, a tough watch for me. Seeing how much realism and detail was added to the scenes made me truly feel bad for the victims. One of my favorite parts about this film was their use of the past and present families and showing the stories connect with one another. On top of this, props to the creators not using cheesy jump scares to try and score a cheap shot with the audience. Instead they help develop all of the characters so you feel for each one, good and bad.

Overall, a great twisted horror film that will keep you engaged at all parts, with a bit of a lack luster ending.

A well shot but pointless and forgettable torture fest

Aaron Pederson came off Mystery Road and Goldstone for....this? He should be hitting Hollywood with his talent, but instead he'll settle for a script with little originality or imagination, and fellow great actors wasting their talents. Harriet Dyer is a terrific performer and has shown her charisma on the shows No Activity and The Other Guy, but is only required to be frightened wife captured by a maniac here, big boost into cinema that one is. Aaron Glenane is a convincing psychopath, but his and Pederson's characters are given no motivation or explanation for killing, they just do it for a laugh it seems. The only praise this deserves is for its beautiful cinematography, given the proper cinematic look with a proper film camera and lenses, rather than the grainy fly on the wall style that outstayed its welcome years back. Shows off the amazing countryside but then again does little with it but put in a hackneyed story and boring characters. Another miss for Aussie film. Except for people who love watching people get shot in the head.

Not your average thriller

Well I have to say it's not your average thriller. the acting is pretty good but the story will leave you shouting at your tele....or maybe that was just me. You realize watching this, you automatically expect it to go a certain way from watching similar films but wow you're in for a surprise. Hence the shouting at the tele. Watch it and you'll see.

A gussied-up freak show masquerading as an art house horror pic. Pass.

For an hour and a half thriller, Killing Ground is a real slog, and it's not until you reach it's last act that you realize why. It also probably explains why the movie has gotten some real raves (and some real pans).

On the surface, it tries in vain to put a fresh face on the Psycho Hillbilly From Hell movie. Killing Ground plays with time quite a bit in the first half of the film, sometimes to good effect in building suspense. Sometimes this backfires and convolutes scenes, as when the same character appears in two scenes back to back at different points in time. Hey, I love when filmmakers mix things up, but it's also a fragile ethos. When it backfires, it just draws attention to itself.

A lot of Killing Ground is like this. I found myself pondering film- critic-type questions (not a good sign) between checking my watch, such as "What is this film trying to achieve and what's it doing differently?" The answers are "I doubt if the filmmakers really know" and "Not much".

If you strip away all the stylized artifice, the competent acting, the technically good filmmaking, what do we really have here? Well, you basically have a slicker "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" slanted to tweak the emotions of the Middle Class (add yuppie heroes, add tykes in danger) or "Wolf Creek" with some really stupid villains (sorry, sadistic does not equal interesting).

None of the characters in Killing Ground are really very interesting, if you get down to it. Maybe that's not important to you, and with a strict thriller, it's not a requirement. Are the human characters in Evil Dead very interesting? Hell no. But with Sam Raimi bringing the freshness, who cares? Even Eden Lake (which has a very similar plot) brought villains with a slightly fresher edge.

Does Killing Ground just stink? No, it's a competent if not overly manipulative knock-off posing as an arty thriller. And that's just a little to ingenuous for me.

Disturbing. Not scary.

Killing Ground was sufficiently suspenseful and the acting was decent. Although the characters were underdeveloped, I still felt invested in them.

While the movie managed to avoid common issues like plot holes and loose ends, I thoroughly disliked it. It seemed to lack a purpose and mainly relied on exploiting the viewers emotions through a series of shockingly brutal and heartbreaking scenes. I have serious concerns about the person who wrote this.

If you are looking for a movie so disturbing that it's the first thing that pops into your mind when you wake up the next day, you will love Killing Ground. If you're a psychopath who wants to feed your violent prediction, give it a go. If you wanted to watch something scary vs something that makes you cry, you will NOT enjoy this movie.

Its a Solid film.

This is a alright movie with nice elements that makes a good thriller. The movie takes time to introduce the main characters in the first act of the film. BUT i don't care for these characters because of their dumb choices. Green Room is a much better film. Damien Power does a good job directing this film for his directing debut. He is able to tell this story in a interesting and non linear way like Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk. This is a very nice beautiful movie with nice cinematography. The realism and brutality within the film is gut wrenching and on point. The third act is pretty lame and the antagonists felt unrealistic. Though the performances were really great.
