American Cinematheque announced the lineup for its 2nd annual Proof Film Festival on Thursday, a program that boasts 46 proof-of-concept short films from burgeoning filmmakers around the world.

The fest focuses solely on the presentation of shorts to screen during the event, which is set to take place Oct. 18-20.

This year, the Proof Film Fest with also partner with Callo to pair select festival filmmakers with industry partners to help them expand their network and potentially turn their proof-of-concept work into something more substantial.

The fest will also include a Pitch Deck Show & Tell – which is an interactive session held on Oct. 20 where six of the filmmakers will pitch their project live to a film industry panel. The grand prize winner and runner-up will be announced at the film festival’s closing night award show.

A cEDH deck can typically win the game in only a matter of turns, usually with an explosive combo. This makes them some of the most powerful Commander decks, and they easily out-compete their more casual counterparts. These decks also typically take a deep understanding of Magics mechanics and how to sequence a turn to pilot them correctly, so they arent normally too beginner-friendly to play with or against.

Supernatural comedies are back in a big way here in 2024 with this weekend’s release of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and Tim Burton’s sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice coming along later this year, and we’re celebrating with a special collection over on Screambox.

The inaugural season of CBC and HBO Max series “Sort Of” leads both the television and overall 2022 Canadian Screen Award nominations with 13 nods. CBC’s “Pretty Hard Cases” and CTV Sci-Fi Channel’s “Wynonna Earp” with 11 each, and CBC’s “Coroner” and “Kim’s Convenience” with 10 each are the other leading television nominees.

The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television revealed on Tuesday 145 nominations across television, film and digital media categories. EuiJeong Hong’s South Korean thriller Voice Of Silence has won the 25th anniversary edition Fantasia International Film Festival’s Cheval Noir award for best film.

Hong’s film follows a mute low-level gangster tasked with taking charge of an 11-year-old kidnapped girl from a wealthy family. The jury described Voice Of Silence as “impossible to pin down, and truly idiosyncratic. Put simply, it’s unlike anything we’d seen before”.

Quebec’s Fantasia Festival has unveiled the third and final wave of titles set to screen at this year’s 25th edition and announced that Takashi Miike’s latest feature “The Great Yokai War – Guardians,” will close the festival. The world premiere of Julien Knafo’s Quebec zombie flic “Brain Freeze” will open the festival following an Aug. 4 pre-fest screening of James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad.”

“The Great Yokai War- Guardians” is the follow-up to Fantasia 2006 opener “The Great Yoki War,” and unspools in a fantasy world of Japanese demons, kaiju and pop culture references which proved a hit in Montreal the first time around.

Frontières International Co-Production Market continued to showcase its growth at Fantasia International Film Festival as it kicked off its eighth edition on Thursday [July 21].

Earlier this year, the genre market announced a new partnership with the Marché du Film at Cannes, and the popularity of its pitching session at Fantasia meant that it moved to the festival’s bigger venue to accommodate the growing industry interest.

Frontières International Co-Production Market will include TV shows for the first time at its upcoming edition.

Following its third European edition at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (Bifff), Frontières returns to Fantasia International Film Festival for its sixth edition, running July 21-24 in Montreal.

The first wave of projects announced include two TV series: House Of Psychotic Women and Untold Horror.

House Of Psychotic Women is based on the book by Canadian author Kier-La Janisse, who will also produce alongside Rook Films’ Andy Starke (Sightseers, The Duke Of Burgundy). Sean Hogan has written the pilot episode.

Untold Horror from Rue Morgue magazine editor-in-chief Dave Alexander will be an eight-part documentary series about the greatest horror movies never made. Directed by Bob Barrett, the series is written by Alexander and Mark Pollesol.
