This film was a longtime passion project for Peter Dinklage.

Motorcycles existed at the time of the Old West depicted in the movie. According Wikipedia, "The 1885 Daimler Reitwagen made by Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach in Germany was the first internal combustion, petroleum-fueled motorcycle."

When asked during a Variety interview about working with Peter Dinklage, Leslie Grace said, "He's a jokester! He's a big comedian. He's so witty, and his character in this is funny as well. We shot in very, very cold weather and he was always making sure everyone was good. He was like, "Are your toes freezing? Do you need more warmers? Are you going to fall off your horse? Do you need a different saddle?" Making sure everyone was good was his top priority."

Based on the western novel of the same name by Joe Lansdale, which was adapted by playwright Chris Kelley.

The latin speech Cut Throat Bill mutters after the scene at the church is "Liliata rutilantium te confessorum turma circumdet....", which is a portion of a phrase from the Catholic Layman's Missal, Prayers for the Dying, spoken at funerals: "Liliata rutilantium te confessorum turma circumdet: iubilantium te virginum chorus excipiat...." ("May the troop of confessors, glowing like lilies, surround you. May the choir of virgins, jubilant, take you in.")
