On June 24, 1945, the most famous parade of the 20th century, the Victory Parade, took place on Red Square. It was hosted by 49-year-old Marshal Georgiy Konstantinovich Zhukov. He is at the zenith of fame and popular love. Zhukov has a caring wife, Aleksandra Dievna, two daughters, and a beautiful fighting friend, Lidiya Zakharova, who went through the entire war with him. To Stalin, the Marshal's popularity seems excessive. And then Western experts add fuel to the fire, calling Zhukov Stalin's heir.

Zhukov, who headed the Soviet occupation administration, plays one of the key roles in determining the fate of post-war Germany. Meanwhile, clouds are gathering over his head. Abakumov, expelled from Germany by the marshal, complains to Stalin. Iosif Vissarionovich recalls Zhukov to Moscow and invites him to become commander-in-chief of the ground forces. Aleksandra Dievna is afraid for her husband, she has a presentiment of trouble. But Georgiy Konstantinovich continues to behave extremely freely and independently.

After meeting with Stalin, Zhukov quarrels with Ruslanova, who tries to warn him of the danger. The special services arrest and torture Air Marshal Novikov, a friend of Zhukov, then arrest his personal adjutant Syomochkin. NKVD officers arrive at Zhukov's house with a search warrant, but he, threatening to open fire, forces them to retreat. Georgiy Konstantinovich calls Stalin. He informs the marshal that soon at a meeting of the Supreme Military Council will be sorted out his case.

At a meeting of the Supreme Military Council, Zhukov declares that all the accusations against him are a provocation. The marshals stand up for the disgraced military leader. Unexpectedly for everyone, Stalin decides to support the opinion of the majority. Zhukov is sent to command the Odessa Military District. Lidiya, who lost her child, goes there with him. Odessa residents greet the unbroken commander with delight, which cannot be said about the city's top party leadership.

Stalin summons Zhukov, who has returned from Odessa, and informs him of his new appointment. The Marshal will have to take command of the Ural District. During the tour, Lidiya Ruslanova is arrested. In Moscow, her husband, Zhukov's friend General Kryukov, is taken into custody. Georgiy Konstantinovich's heart can't stand it. He ends up in the hospital with a heart attack. There his last meeting takes place with his front-line friend, Marshal Rybalko, who is dying.

Zhukov arrives in Sverdlovsk, accompanied by his wife. Marshal Rybalko dies. Any day now, Zhukov is expecting arrest and preparing for defense. My health fails again - a second heart attack. Stalin becomes aware of this. During his illness, Zhukov becomes close to his attending physician, a young attractive woman, Galina Semyonova. Aleksandra Dievna is in despair.

After much persuasion from Mikhail Pilikhin, Lidiya Zakharova comes to Sverdlovsk. But the long-awaited meeting with Georgiy Konstantinovich ends in a final break. Every day the relationship between Zhukov and Galina Semyonova becomes more and more serious. The love idyll is disrupted by the arrival of Aleksandra Dievna and the marshal's daughters.

Aleksandra Dievna understands that Georgiy Konstantinovich has the most serious intentions towards Semyonova. Returning to Moscow, she comes to Zakharova and asks her to go to Zhukov in Sverdlovsk. The tragic news of Stalin's death spreads across the country. Zhukov returns to Moscow with Galina. Khrushchyov offers to help the marshal with the apartment, and also invites him to visit.

After Stalin's death, the struggle for power intensified. The insidious and calculating Beria, who has subjugated all the special services and internal troops, makes an attempt to enlist the support of Zhukov, promising to release his friends from prison. The group headed by Khrushchyov is also betting on Zhukov.

Beria is arrested. Khrushchyov appoints Zhukov as Minister of Defense of the USSR. Georgiy Konstantinovich and Aleksandra Dievna register their marriage. Released from prison, Ruslanova returns to the stage. The XX Congress of the CPSU is taking place in Moscow. Denunciations against Zhukov continue, now they are coming to Khrushchyov.

Zhukov was removed from the Presidium of the CPSU Central Committee and relieved of his post as Minister of Defense of the USSR. Georgiy Konstantinovich is having health problems again. He decides to divorce Aleksandra Dievna and legalize his relationship with Galina. Outraged by the presentation of the history of the Great Patriotic War, Zhukov, on the advice of Pilikhin, decides to write a book of his own memoirs.

Zhukov signs with Galina. Semyonova does not want to worry her husband about the deterioration of her health. Georgiy Konstantinovich has problems with the publication of the book: he fundamentally does not want to attribute military merits to Brezhnev. Zhukov faces another blow of fate: Aleksandra Dievna dies. Due to overwhelming emotions, 'Marshal of Victory' suffers a stroke.
