John Michael Nolan

American born and raised, film director, script doctor, professional screenwriter and producer John Michael Nolan was born in Hartford, Connecticut in January of 1982 and moved to Buffalo, New York at the age of 10 in 1992. It was at a young age where he started writing short stories and poems. In the Spring of 2001, during his freshman year of college at Hobart and William Smith, a play he wrote titled "She" was selected for production the following Fall. On the heels of this success, Mike took an opportunity to study in Los Angeles during the Spring semester of his sophomore year (2002), where he would intern for Roger Corman's production company in Brentwood, reading horror and science fiction scripts. It was during this time that Mike completed his first screenplay, co-produced and acted in a student film titled "Vanity's Dream" and also finished his second play "Angel". A play which he would direct and produce in the Fall of 2002 back at Hobart at the start of his junior year. With no film major at the time at Hobart, Mike was granted permission to do an independent study in Los Angeles. Returning once again in the Spring semester of his junior year (2003), Mike took screenwriting classes through UCLA extension that he was able to count towards his undergraduate degree at Hobart. 2004 was a big year for Mike as his play "The Flower that fell upon Rain" - the conclusion of a three-part trilogy that started with his first, was staged on campus in late February. For Mike, this was a huge accomplishment, and it was something that he made a conscious effort to share with the theater community on campus that helped him produce it. As a young writer, it was an invaluable experience.

In 2005, Mike returned to Los Angeles and UCLA after being accepted in UCLA's graduate program for screenwriting. Over the next two and half years, Mike complete two professional degrees, professional and advanced professional and re-located back to Buffalo due to family circumstances. It was at that point where, he started writing spec scripts and working as a script doctor. During this time, he was fortunate to get two high profile opportunities, one that he contractually can't disclose but it involved a high-profile sequel that eventually was made (albeit with a different writer). The second was a sequel to "Superman Returns" that he wrote a treatment for, but due to the rights changing, was never given the opportunity to pen into a full-length script.

In 2014, Mike and a team of producers came together to make the short film "Loyal to the Game". The film was a modest indie hit on the east coast festival circuit. It premiered at the Buffalo International Film Festival in October of 2015, then followed at the Key West Film Festival and then had its highlight debut in New York City at the New York City International Film Festival, for which it earned a Best Actor in a short film nomination for lead actor Franck Juste Jr (April 2016).

The success of "Loyal to the Game" afforded Mike and his team to set their sights higher as they produced and raised money for his feature film "Heartbreak Falls". An ambitious project, the team spent a lot of time and put in a tremendous amount of energy and focus to make the film with the right people, making the most out of the resources they had at their disposal. Although production was delayed in 2020 by the Covid 19 pandemic, the film completed production in the Fall 2021 and should premiere during the latter portion of 2023.

Mike and his wife Lara were front line workers during the Covid 19 pandemic and live in Hamburg, NY a suburb of Buffalo.
