6 best Netflix fantasy shows, ranked
Image
When most people think of successful fantasy TV shows, HBO and Prime Video are probably the first two networks that come to mind. They’ve both upped their investments in the fantasy genre lately with new seasons of House of the Dragon, The Wheel of Time, The Rings of Power, and more, but Netflix isn’t that far behind.

There are some great Netflix fantasy shows to stream right now! Since Game of Thrones, Netflix has quietly assembled an epic lineup of fantasy shows. There were so many shows that could have made this list, but I wanted to choose a very small, select group of shows that fantasy fans need to watch if they haven’t yet.

So, let’s get the ranking of the best Netflix fantasy shows started with Shadow and Bone.

David Dastmalchian Believes His Live-Action 'One Piece' Villain Will Be "No. 1 in Your Hearts"
Image
One of the most eagerly anticipated seasons of a television series is the second season of Netflix's live-action adaptation of One Piece. While filming has already wrapped, audiences will have to wait until 2026 before Season 2 premieres. The coming season puts the focus back on Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) and his crew, as they continue to sail across the Grand Line, where new friends and foes await. The Straw Hat crew will come into conflict with the antagonist group Baroque Works, with David Dastmalchian portraying a high-ranking member named Mr. 3. In an interview with ScreenRant, Dastmalchian explained what to expect from his character in Season 3.

"So Mr. 3, even though he's Mr. 3 in the Baroque Works, he's going to be No. 1 in your hearts," Dastmalchian tells the outlet. "He shoots candle wax out of his hands. As far as I know, I think it's the only place that he shoots out of.

Die Hard Fans Should Check Out This Daisy Ridley Action Movie On HBO Max
Image
After the controversial and oftentimes hated "Star Wars" sequel trilogy, Rey actress Daisy Ridley has had difficulty finding box office and critical success. Dystopian thrillers were outdated by the time the overly grim "Chaos Walking" came out in 2021, the Trudy Ederle biopic "Young Woman and the Sea" was too bland, and the psychological thriller "The Marsh King's Daughter" snoozed audiences rather than intrigued them. Her quietly fragile performance in "Sometimes I Think About Dying" was exquisite, but it was such a tiny indie release and the title might be off-putting to some.

Ridley recently starred in "Cleaner," which did poorly at the box office, earning only $1 million on a $25 million budget. Although it flew under the radar, "Cleaner" deserves far more credit. It's the kind of taut, explosive action flick for grown-ups that doesn't really exist anymore because theatres are bogged down with IP-driven franchises. The plot of terrorists taking...

One Piece Star Taz Skylar’s $25 Million Bomb That Critics Hated Is Dominating HBO Max Streaming Top 10
Image
While Cleaner, starring Daisy Ridley, Clive Owen, and Taz Skylar, didn’t fare well at the box office during its limited theatrical window, since heading to streaming, the action feature has found new legs. Directed by Martin Campbell, the man responsible for GoldenEye and Casino Royale, the movie premiered on Max to impressive numbers.

Although the movie opened to underwhelming critical reception for its uninspired narrative, interestingly, on Max, the action thriller is just tracking behind one of the biggest commercial hits of the year.

Taz Skylar’s ‘Cleaner’ continues to excel on Max

Since heading to Max, Cleaner, which surged to the top 1 spot shortly after its premiere on June 13, has continued to breach the top 10 spot. As of now (Per Flixpatrol), the movie is currently trailing behind WB’s A Minecraft Story, driving past the likes of Hunger Games and the Brad Pitt-led Bullet Train.

Netflix's 'One Piece' Adaptation Gets Season 2 Update From Joe Manganiello
Image
Netflix's live-action adaptation of One Piece has recently been confirmed to be releasing its next batch of episodes in 2026, with the next season shaping up to be yet another ambitious adaptation. The first season of the series adapted the East Blue saga from the manga created by Eiichiro Oda, telling the story of Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) recruiting the first four members of his crew. However, the second season sees the newly assembled Straw Hat Crew sailing to the Grand Line, meaning that larger-scale arcs like Little Garden and Drum Island will be adapted.

Moreover, the overarching antagonist of this next saga, Mr. 0 aka Crocodile, will play a large role in the second (and hopefully third) seasons. Joe Manganiello plays the iconic One Piece villain, and the actor recently spoke with Eva Carducci on Instagram about his appearance in Season 2, teasing that he had seen some footage of himself as Crocodile,...

Star Wars Icon’s John Wick Style Action Thriller Tops Streaming Charts in America
Image
Daisy Ridley will always be known for her role as Rey Skywalker in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, but earlier this year, she starred in an action thriller likened to John Wick upon its release, which has been a sensation on streaming. Ridley stars alongside Taz Skylar and Ruth Gemmell in Cleaner, the action vehicle following an ex-soldier-turned-window-cleaner who has to rescue hostages after a gala is hijacked and its attendees fall into major trouble. Cleaner began streaming on Max at the end of last week, and the film wasted no time climbing to the top of streaming charts, sitting at #1 at the time of writing. Cleaner earned a “rotten” 52% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but a slightly kinder 66% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter.

Simon Uttley, Paul Andrew Williams, and Matthew Orton wrote the script for Cleaner, and Martin Campbell directed the film. Orton also worked as a writer on Marvel’s Moon Knight series,...

Daisy Ridley's Action Thriller With Die Hard Comparisons Becomes #1 Streaming Hit, 4 Months After $1M Box Office
Image
Daisy Ridley's action thriller, which has been compared to Die Hard, has become a streaming hit four months after it made just $1 million at the box office. Ridley rose from relative obscurity to superstardom when she was cast as Rey in the Star Wars sequel trilogy – headlining The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker – and is set to reprise her role in the upcoming New Jedi Order movie. However, since leaving Star Wars behind, Ridley's career has seen mixed results otherwise.

Following The Rise of Skywalker, her first few projects, the sci-fi film Chaos Walking and psychological thriller The Marsh King's Daughter, were both critical and commercial flops. She rebounded with the Sundance drama Sometimes I Think About Dying, delivering a superbly melancholic performance, and continued to turn in strong showings in Disney's Young Woman and the Sea and the neo-noir thriller Magpie. Now, Daisy...

“He’s Too Cool”: Beloved ‘One Piece’ Character Gets Live-Action Stamp of Approval From Original Voice Actor
Image
When the live-action adaptation of One Piece was being developed, the show had to ensure that it got the stamp of approval of its creator, Eiichiro Oda, which is why he was hands-on during the show's production. But it's not just him. Anime voice actor Hiroaki Hirata recently shared his thoughts on the live-action take of Sanji, played by Taz Skylar, and the challenges of dubbing this character for the Netflix show.

In an interview with Anime News Network, Hirata was asked about Skylar's portrayal of Sanji since he had voiced the character for more than two decades. He stated that his first impression of the character was that "he's too cool" and wondered if Netflix would showcase the silly side of this Straw Hat Pirate. Despite Season 1 only covering up to the Arlong Park story arc, his worries vanished after seeing Skylar's performance on screen.

'He's Too Cool': One Piece's Original Anime Sanji Had Major Worries About Netflix Live-Action Actor
Image
Professional voice actor Hiroaki Hirata is perhaps best known for his role as Sanji in the original Japanese One Piece anime. After spending two-and-a-half decades getting to know the character inside and out, Hirata admitted that he was initially skeptical about Taz Skylar taking on the role in Netflix's live-action One Piece adaptation.

Initially released in August 2023, Netflix's One Piece stars Taz Skylar (Sanji), Mackenyu (Zoro), and Emily Rudd (Nami) alongside series' lead Inaki Godoy (Luffy) in a lively new rendition of Eiichiro Oda's classic shōnen. As a fellow Straw Hat, Sanji is responsible for keeping Luffy's crew well-fed on their adventures, and his charismatic personality has endeared him to millions of One Piece fans. During a recent interview with Anime News Network, Hirata shared his thoughts on Skylar after seeing him in costume as Sanji for the first time. "My first impression was, 'he's too cool..." He stated.

Daisy Ridley's 51% Rotten Tomatoes Action Thriller Finds a Streaming Home This Month
Image
Earlier this year, Star Wars alum Daisy Ridley laced up her boots, loaded her guns and got to work in Martin Campbell’s high-octane flick, Cleaner. Though the movie didn’t sweep up the box office figures it was hoping for, it will have another chance to wipe the slate clean and start over again, as it has set a streaming arrival for Max on Friday, June 13. Though the movie left audiences wanting more, receiving a Rotten Tomatoes critics' approval rating of 51% and a slightly higher audience stamp of 66%, viewers could all agree on one thing — Ridley was born for a life of action. The film gives the actress her own Bruce Willis or Jason Statham-like character, and she steps up to the challenge without hesitation, making the role of the hero look like a piece of cake.

After leaving the military following a squabble with a misogynist co-worker,...

Mikaela Hoover
Netflix’s Tudum event brought Tony Tony Chopper trotting onto the stage in virtual form, confirming that Mikaela Hoover will voice and performance-capture the Straw Hats’ pint-size doctor when One Piece returns in 2026. A brief teaser showed the blue-nosed reindeer bounding across a Cape Town set while Iñaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, Jacob Romero and Taz Skylar welcomed him to the crew.

Series creator Eiichiro Oda hailed Chopper’s arrival in a handwritten note shared after the reveal, calling the character “the heart of the ship” and praising the blend of practical prosthetics and Wētā-assisted CGI that preserves his cartoonish charm. Showrunner Joe Tracz said the team settled on Hoover—best known for Guardians of the Galaxy cameos—after screen tests proved her “elastic vocal range could swing from timid to fearless in the same line.

Production wrapped in March after eight months around Cape Town Studios and a location...

One Piece season 2 confirmed for 2026 release (plus first look at Tony Tony Chopper)
Image
Who's ready for One Piece season 2? Netflix has just announced some really exciting news about the highly anticipated second season. We'll get to reunite with Luffy and his Straw Hat Pirates crew next year! Yes, you read that right. One Piece season 2 is coming out in 2026. Netflix announced this amazing news at its live Tudum event on May 31.

We had hoped that the second season would be released this year, but after Netflix revealed its 2025 lineup and the live-action series wasn't included on the list, it pretty much solidified that the new installment would not be released in 2025. Given production wrapping up in February 2025, a 2026 release seemed more likely, and now it's officially confirmed.

Sadly, Netflix didn’t share an official release date during its Tudum event. However, if we had to make a release prediction, we believe there’s a strong chance One Piece season 2 could drop early next year,...

In addition, we learned that the supremely talented Mikaela Hoover will portray Chopper using vocal talents and facial capture. Hoover did similar work as Floor the Rabbit in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
