After Ship of Theseus and The Lunchbox, Disney Utv has added another independent film to its slate. The studio has acquired Hansal Mehta’s Shahid and will release it soon in theatres. The release date isn’t confirmed yet.

Shahid was one of the most successful indie films of last year and traveled to several film festivals including Toronto, Dubai and Mumbai. The film won the Silver Gateway Trophy at the 14th Mumbai film festival while Hansal Mehta won the Best Director award for Shahid at the 13th New York Indian Film Festival early this year.

What is Shahid about?

Shahid is based on the remarkable journey of human rights lawyer / activist Shahid Azmi. It is a very personal account of an inspiring life tragically cut short.
