She was the crown holder for Miss Los Angeles Chinatown and was the first mixed-ethnicity queen in the pageant's history. She then went on to represent Los Angeles in the Miss Chinese International pageant, where she made top 7 and won Miss Congeniality.

"Laur" is a nickname for Lauren and "Allen" is the maiden name of Laur's British grandmother. When her grandmother turned 100 years old, Laur changed her stage name because they both share a love of acting.

Laur was one of two actresses from The Young and The Restless featured in Soap Opera Digest magazine's 2017 Most Beautiful Women of Soaps issue.
