Losing a home is always sudden, always a shock and always a tragedy. Colin Firth and Michael Fassbender are attached to the Michael Grandage-directed true story drama "Genius" for FilmNation Entertainment.

Based on A. Scott Berg's National Book Award winning biography "Max Perkins: Editor of Genius", the story deals with the real-life tender and complex friendship between literary giant Thomas Wolfe (Fassbender) and renowned editor Max Perkins (Firth).

Wolfe became famous from a young age for both his talent and larger-than-life personality. Perkins is one of the most respected literary editors of all time who discovered talent such as F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway.

While most writers struggle with their words, Wolfe had the opposite problem and butted heads with Perkins who demanded he keep to a tight word limit. It was a volatile relationship, but one that changed both their lives.

James Bierman is producing. John Logan ("Skyfall," "Gladiator") penned the script and shooting kicks off early 2014.

Oscar-winner Colin Firth and Michael Fassbender (who is more than worthy of it, too, and hopefully will get it soon) are now set to team up for the real-life drama Genius. The film is based on A. Scott Berg’s biography, Max Perkins: Editor of Genius, and follows the story of the relationship between Thomas Wolfe and editor Max Perkins.

Perkins served as an editor for a number of literary legends, some of them being Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald, so his role as a devoted friend and surrogate psychoanalyst made him privy to the intricate details of these men’s lives. Sean Penn was previously circling the role that now went to Firth.

FilmNation Entertainment will handle international sales for Genius, which will star Academy Award winner Colin Firth (The King's Speech) and Michael Fassbender (Prometheus, Shame). Based on an inspirational true story, Genius is written by three-time Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner John Logan (The Aviator, Gladiator, Hugo, Skyfall), and will be directed by Michael Grandage, who recently served as the Artistic Director of London's famed theater the Donmar Warehouse. FilmNation will commence international sales on Genius starting at Afm. CAA will arrange the financing and represent the film's North American distribution rights. Principal photography is scheduled to start early in 2014.

Genius will be produced by James Bierman for the Michael Grandage Company (Mgc). Bierman served as Executive Producer at Donmar and co-formed Mgc with Grandage. Mgc will also be producing Logan's new play Peter and Alice, to be directed by Grandage, as part of their season of plays in...

Glen Basner’s FilmNation Entertainment is handling international sales on “Genius,” which will star Colin Firth and Michael Fassbender in a project with a screenplay by “Skyfall,” “Rango” and “Hugo” writer John Logan. Theater director Michael Grandage will direct the film, which is based on the real-life relationship between author Tom Wolfe and literary editor Max Perkins, who also worked with F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway. The script is based on A. Michael Grandage, who for a decade led the pocket-size theatre the Donmar Warehouse to a string of stage triumphs, from Michael Sheen as David Frost to Rachel Weisz as Blanche DuBois, is to return to the London theatre – this time with his own star-filled company for a 15-month season of plays in the West End. Tickets will cost as little as £10.

The five-play season will feature Jude Law as Henry V, Judi Dench opposite Ben Whishaw in a new play, David Walliams as Bottom opposite Sheridan Smith's Titania in A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Simon Russell Beale as a cross-dressing army captain in Peter Nichols's Privates on Parade. The lineup is completed by Martin McDonagh's The Cripple of Inishmaan, starring Daniel Radcliffe. All will be directed by Grandage.
