There will be no Dr. Collins in Season 2 of The Pitt. Tracy Ifeachor, who portrayed Dr. Collins in Season 1, won’t be returning for the second season of the hit HBO Max medical drama, Deadline has confirmed.
Dr. Collins is a fourth-year resident at a teaching hospital in season one and will not be at the shift in season two, we’ve learned. The news was first reported by Deadline’s sister pub TVLine.
The confirmation comes one day after Ifeachor posted a slightly cryptic message on Instagram, saying “what a blessing” it was to be a participant on the first season, calling it an “absolute privilege to play Dr. Heather Collins in such a groundbreaking season and piece.” She made no mention of a second season.
Collins suffered a miscarriage halfway through the first season. It’s implied early on that she and Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch’s (Noah Wyle...

Tracy Ifeachor, who played Dr. Heather Collins in Season 1 of “The Pitt,” will not return for Season 2.
Sources tell Variety that the decision was made by the show’s creative team; Ifeachor is not leaving “The Pitt” of her own accord.
Dr. Collins is a senior resident at the hospital who has a close but sometimes strained relationship with Dr. Michael Robinavitch aka Robby (series lead Noah Wyle). She begins the season pregnant, trying to start a family through IVF and without a partner. She tries to keep her pregnancy a secret from her colleagues, then miscarries. Afterwards, she discusses it with Robby in a scene that reveals that they used to be a couple, and that she got pregnant and had an abortion during that time.
Along with Ifeachor and Wyle, Season 1 starred Patrick Ball, Katherine Lanasa, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, Shabana Azeez and Shawn Hatosy.

It's been 20 years since Noah Wyle left "ER," and while he's worked consistently ever since, the actor never quite landed a show that had the same cultural impact as NBC's medical drama. That is, until "The Pitt," which has become nothing short of a sensation since its January 2025 debut on HBO Max.
While the series is another medical drama set in an emergency room, it is not a spin-off of "ER," (though a lawsuit alleges otherwise). Nonetheless, it very much feels as if we're catching up with Wyle's former medical student John Carter in "The Pitt," with the actor starring as veteran attending physician Dr. Michael Robinavitch. Wyle did an outstanding job of portraying the brilliant but beleaguered doctor in season 1, an accomplishment that becomes even more impressive when you find out he also wrote two episodes: episode 4, "10:00 A.M.," and episode 9, "3:00 P.M."

Looks like Dance Mom will boogie all the way to the Emmy podium.
Julianne Nicholson, who played the joyous (and drug-addicted) character on Hacks Season 4, now leads the Best Comedy Guest Actress race, taking down longtime frontrunner Jamie Lee Curtis for The Bear, who won last year. Nicholson's Dance Mom, aka Mary Alice, was recruited by Paul W. Downs' Jimmy and Megan Stalter's Kayla to appear on Late Night With Deborah Vance as a way for the talk show-within-a-show to gain a younger audience. At first, Jean Smart's Deborah was hesitant to let the untested woman take the stage, until she realized it would annoy Hannah Einbinder's Ava, and then all bets were off.
There's a new Hacks tonight, but I have not yet recovered from Julianne Nicholson dancing to Katy Perry's "Lifetimes" as Dance Mom in last week's episode. pic.twitter.com/SH3OPittFI

The Pitt is gearing up for a second season - and now a new doctor has joined the cast.
Sepideh Moafi, who has appeared in Black Bird and Class of '09, has been cast as a so far unnamed attending physician in Season 2 of the highly acclaimed medical drama. Her character will have her work cut out for her, as The Pitt is not a pleasant place to work. In season one, the hospital received victims of a mass shooting, which proved immensely traumatic for lead character Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle). And that was in addition to the drug overdoses, childbirths, and agonies which the staff dealt with.
Maofi is the fifth person to join the cast of the show recently. Also in the new cast is Charles Baker of Breaking Bad, who will play an unhoused man called Troy. His presence makes Season 2 of the show a Breaking Bad mini-reunion,...

Taylor Dearden broke out as a star earlier this year thanks to her performance in The Pitt, and now, as Season 2 production for the medical drama is ramping up, she’s pulling back the curtain on the relationship between Mel and a controversial character. There are plenty of other team players in Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center's ER, like Noah Wyle's Dr. Robby, but not everyone has the same morals as their fearless leader.
One member of the team who falls more in the gray area in terms of his moral compass is Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball), who is caught stealing medication from patients. Langdon ultimately comes back to help with the mass shooting, which is a relief for Mel, who had formed quite a connection with him — one that fans can't get enough of. Few shows in the history of television have had the same impact on the community on which it's based as The Pitt did earlier this year, and now Season 2 of the hit medical drama just got a thrilling update. The Pitt, which began streaming on Max earlier this year, follows the healthcare workers at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center ER as they navigate the cases a single day brings them. The show uses a one-shift model, with the full first season taking place over only 15 hours. The cast and crew even shot things in the order in which they aired to help bring a more authentic experience, which is much more complicated than a traditional shoot. During a recent interview with Perri Nemiroff for Collider Ladies Night, The Pitt star Taylor Dearden revealed that her co-star Noah Wyle is stepping into an even larger creative role next season:

The Pitt introduced the world to many beloved Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center staff members earlier this year, but perhaps none more so than Dr. Melissa King (Taylor Dearden), or Mel. Dr. King is a neurodivergent person with an exceptional ability to connect with patients, even the ones who give other staffers a tough time. One of the more intriguing elements of the show is its one-shift structure — the entire 15-episode first season takes place over one shift, with each episode covering one hour of the day. This unique format is brought to life via the cast filming the show in sequence, meaning they start with Episode 1 when they arrive on set and film the show in the same order the audience will watch it. This is quite different from most streaming shows that film in a random order, sometimes shooting the finale on the first day and early episodes closer to wrap.

’The Pitt’s Taylor Dearden Explains Why She Needed a Chiropractor After Filming Season 1 [Exclusive]
The Pitt is already rolling cameras on Season 2, and one of the biggest stars of the show has pulled back the curtain on the biggest challenges of its production. Starring in the role of the beloved Dr. Melissa King, or Mel as she’s known around the halls of Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, is Taylor Dearden. The Pitt also takes place over only one shift in the ER, and the series was filmed in sequence, meaning they began with Episode 1 on filming day 1 and wrapped after concluding work on the finale. This is an unusual structure not often used in streaming TV shows nowadays, and it makes for some grueling days on set. When The Pitt first begins, it can be fairly laid back at times, watching the doctors and nurses deal with cases and shoot the breeze about their personal lives, but when they’re rushing to save the lives of mass shooting victims,...

"The Pitt" cast might be made up of relatively unknown actors, but that doesn't mean the impressive ensemble are inexperienced. In fact, part of the reason the HBO medical drama has become so successful are the incredible performances furnished by the up-and-coming stars — many of which came from a theater background. This was intentional on the part of the producers, who wanted to shoot "The Pitt" in chronological order and needed actors that were used to playing out entire narratives with minimal breaks.
But using young stage actors also had the added bonus of heightening the series' all-important realism. A lack of familiar faces only enhances the sense that you're watching a real emergency room shift play out at a real hospital. Of course, not all those faces were unfamiliar. Star Noah Wyle made his name by starring in the seminal "ER," and is now once again leading an emergency medicine team as Dr.

It's not often that a medical procedural drama receives high praise in its debut season. Sure, long-running shows like Grey's Anatomy, and classics like ER, are the exception, but both had to start somewhere. Max's (soon to return as HBO Max) The Pitt has found early success in the world of television, becoming critically acclaimed for its writing, filming style, and overall actors' performances. The Pitt is in full swing for Season 2, and some new faces have joined the cast.
Deadline reported on Thursday that four actors have been cast in the upcoming series. First up is Charles Baker of Breaking Bad, who will play Troy, an unhoused man "forgotten by most" who is a patient in the Pittsburgh ER. Viewers of the first season may remember that the plight of unhoused people featured pretty heavily into the show, with Dr. Whittaker (Gerran Howell) turning out to be unhoused at the end of the season.
The casting also marks a mini-reunion for Breaking Bad, which featured Baker as fan-favorite character Skinny Pete. One of the stars of The Pitt is Taylor Dearden, the daughter of Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston. Dearden briefly appeared in an episode of Breaking Bad, portraying a student at the high school where Cranston's Walter White worked.

Max’s “The Pitt” is considered to be medically accurate, and that’s thanks to the creative team.
Dr. Lizzie Ferreira is a real-life emergency medicine physician and is one of the medical consultants on the show. “It starts with John Wells, Noah Wyle, Scott Gemmill. They created and cultivated a culture where it was absolutely imperative to get it right and to show it as accurate and as authentic and as messy as possible,” she says.
Speaking with Variety‘s Artisans, presented by HBO, Ferreira explained that while the scenes begin in the writers’ room, those eventually trickle down to the medical consultants whose job it is to bring that authenticity. “When we were working through a scene with both the director and the cinematographer verbalizing what we’re anticipating the actresses or actors to do in that moment on what cued line, allows the Dp to plan her...

The Pitt Season 2 is currently in production ahead of its expected January 2026 release date, and one of the show’s brightest stars just shared an update on where we’ll find her character in Season 2. While The Pitt’s biggest headline was certainly ER veteran Noah Wyle returning to the world of medical dramas to play Dr. Robby, it’s the rest of the cast that made The Pitt such a success. One of those stars is Taylor Dearden, who portrays the exceptionally talented Dr. Melissa King, or Mel as she’s known in Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. Collider’s Aidan Kelley caught up with Dearden at the Newport Beach TV Festival, and he asked where we’ll pick up with Mel and Dr. Landgon (Patrick Ball) at the start of Season 2:

"That's the Whole Idea": ‘The Pitt’ Producer Reveals If the Show Will Leave the Hospital in Season 2
The first season of Max's first original medical drama, The Pitt, turned out to be an incredibly successful one, and it's fair to say that audiences can't wait to return to the ER for yet another season. Max will deliver on a second season early next year and the staff of Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center will return with ER veteran Noah Wyle at the helm as Dr. Robby. Much of the medical drama's first season saw the action play out within the confines of the hospital as the show takes place in real time. Each episode covers an hour of the one shift shown across the season with very few sightings of the hospital staff outside the hospital. So, will that change in Season 2? Will audiences get to follow staff home in the sophomore season?
Some members of staff had to depart the hospital at various points during the first season.

Due to the format of The Pitt, we only very briefly saw any of the hospital staff outside of the hospital during its first season. The hit HBO Max medical drama takes place in real time, with each episode covering an hour of the one shift shown across the season. The finale did see Robby (Noah Wyle), Abbot (Shawn Hatosy), Mohan (Supriya Ganesh), Javadi (Shabana Azeez), and other members of the staff gather in the park across the street from the hospital for a post-shift beer. It also followed King (Taylor Dearden) as she picked up her sister. But executive producers R. Scott Gemmill and John Wells don’t see the show ever going home with the characters or leaving the hospital in a significant way. “I don’t think we’ll ever go home with our characters,” Gemmill told TV Insider during Season 1. “I think what makes this show...

The Pitt, Max’s high-octane, real-time medical drama that took streaming by storm earlier this year, is making a fast and furious leap to linear TV. Warner Bros. Discovery officially announced during its 2025 upfront presentation that the show will air on TNT this fall — giving audiences who missed its initial streaming run a second chance to experience the series ahead of Season 2. But it's not just a case of recycling a greatest hit for the people at the top, as according to Warner Bros. Television Group and U.S. Networks CEO Channing Dungey, this is part of a bigger plan to “eventize” content from Max across the company’s linear platforms, treating shows like The Pitt as the must-see television they are.
“When we put Max programming on the T-nets, we want to make sure that we’re telling the audience, ‘This is something special, you want to tune in for this.

As expected, a second run of Max’s (soon to once again be “HBO Max’s”) smash freshman medical series “The Pitt” will make its way to TNT this fall, exposing the drama to linear viewers who perhaps haven’t caught it quite yet on streaming.
The TNT run of “The Pitt” is meant to serve as a bit of a snack for viewers in preparation for Season 2 of the series. Channing Dungey, chairman and CEO of the Warner Bros. Television Group and US Networks, announced the news on Wednesday during her portion of the Warner Bros. Discovery 2025 upfronts — along with the rest of her early plans for the networks, which she added to her oversight in January.
Dungey and her team aren’t yet ready to share how they plan to roll out the 15 episodes of “The Pitt” on TV, but she does say she wants to make sure...
