Earlier this year, the historical drama Train Dreams was screened at the Sundance Film Festival – and that screening was a great success, resulting in not only rave reviews (including a 9/10 review from JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray) but also a distribution deal, with Netflix forking over $16 million for the rights. Today, a teaser trailer for Train Dreams has dropped online, and it can be seen in the embed above. Along with the teaser trailer comes the information that Netflix is planning to give the film a limited theatrical release on November 7th. It will make its way over to the streaming service two weeks later, on November 21st.

Netflix has shared the teaser trailer and teaser art for Train Dreams, the drama film that will open in select theaters on November 7. It will then begin streaming on Netflix on November 21.

Directed by Clint Bentley from a script he wrote with Greg Kwedar (the duo last worked together on the Oscar-nominated Sing Sing), this breathtakingly beautiful film drew raves out of the Sundance Film Festival (it is currently at 97% on Rotten Tomatoes).

BlackBear,the US and UK-based production, finance and distribution company, is expanding into US theatrical distribution.

Benjamin Kramer, most recently co-head of CAA Media Finance, has been recruited to oversee the expansion as Black Bear’s president of US distribution.

The US operation will handle up to 12 theatrical releases a year,focusing on a curated slate of filmmaker-driven titles and wide-release action and genre films.Additional executives are set to be hired in the coming months.

Exclusive: Some big news spanning independent film distribution and the Los Angeles agency scene: Teddy Schwarzman’s indie studio Black Bear is expanding into U.S. distribution and has hired longtime CAA Media Finance co-head Benjamin Kramer to oversee the operation.

The ambitious U.S. arm will release up to 12 Black Bear and third-party productions per year. We understand there are multiple high-profile movies already on the slate which could go through the pipeline. The company will focus on filmmaker-driven fare and wide-release action and genre movies.

Key staff will be added in the coming months to build out the team under Kramer, reporting to Black Bear CEO Schwarzman.

Netflix has set a November limited theatrical release, and November 21 streaming release, for Train Dreams. The drama sits at 97% on Rotten Tomatoes following its premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.

Osgood Perkins is becoming something of royalty in the horror category as the offspring of one of the most iconic names in the genre, plus carving out his own path with a directing career. And while Perkins’ new film doesn’t match the ominous atmosphere of his previous work, it does allow him to further showcase his range as a director and to deliver big laughs alongside his now-signature scares. In fact, it’s every bit as much a comedy as it is a horror film.

Based on a Stephen King short story of the same name, The Monkey revolves around, you guessed it, a wind-up monkey that, whenever activated, brings death upon a random individual. The Monkey marked the second-biggest opening for Neon, but the film simply didn’t make enough money to outperform Captain America: Brave New World. The latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe repeated as the No. 1 movie at the box office over the weekend with an estimated $28.2 million domestically. However, filmmaker and star Osgood "Oz" Perkins' The Monkey still managed to bring in $14.2 million to secure second place.

Captain America 4 dropped a staggering 68% between its first and second weekends of release, but the Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford-led superhero flick still managed to attract audiences, particularly on Saturday, Feb. 22. That marked the only day over the weekend that Sam Wilson (Mackie) and President “Thunderbolt” Ross/Red Hulk’s (Ford) film managed to bring in more than $10 million ($12.8 million). Now, in fairness, it's been a rocky road for the MCU over the last couple of years at the box office.

The Monkeywriter and director Osgood Perkins opens up about the close-to-home inspirations for the film.

Speaking to Variety, Perkins openly discussed his personal relationship with death, specifically the deaths of his parents, Psycho star Anthony Perkins and model Berry Berenson, who passed from AIDs and as a passenger on one of the flights tragically hijacked on September 11, 2001, respectively. "I'm certainly writing from an autobiographical place, given that I sustained some pretty insane kind of deaths in my life," Perkins said.

Osgood “Oz” Perkins’ dark comedy-horror film The Monkeyopened Feb. 21 and is already headed toward a $13.5-$14 million opening weekend at the box office. Per Deadline, the film, distributed by Neon, is expected to become Neon’s second-highest opening film ever.The Monkey is falling just behind another Perkins film, Longlegs(2024), which earned $22.4 million on its opening weekend. On its first day in theaters, The Monkey earned $5.8 million.
