Charlize Theron’s 24% Rotten Tomatoes Action Sequel Loses Top Spot on Streaming Charts 1 Week After Netflix Debut
Image
The concept of the Netflix blockbuster is an ever-changing one. The streamer has been criticized for homogenizing the tent pole experience, and for forgoing theatrical releases almost entirely. This has led to the production of films such as Red Notice, 6 Underground, The Gray Man, and The Electric State. Each of those movies was supposed to spawn a franchise, but none of them has. At least, not yet. However, two titles in the first batch of Netflix tent poles — Extraction and The Old Guard — both managed to stand out, which is perhaps why they were granted sequels. The Old Guard 2 debuted earlier this month after an unexpectedly long delay, but it was met with poor reviews and, seemingly, a lack of interest from audiences.

The movie has already lost its number one spot on the Netflix viewership charts, which is almost unheard of for a film of its size.

The Old Guard 2 Director Says Executing the Sequel’s Immortality Twist Was Challenging
Image
The Old Guard 2 director Victoria Mahoney opened up about the challenging process of introducing the transference of immortality concept into the sequel’s story.

In The Old Guard 2, Nile has the ability to take away others’ immortality. It has also been revealed that there is another way for others to regain their immortality back. The film also confirmed that any immortal has the ability to transfer their immortality to someone who has lost theirs, just as long as they give it to them willingly. Speaking with EW, Mahoney admitted that they had a difficult time executing the idea of transferring immortality without creating any plot holes for the audience. “We were possessed by a demonic spirit, that's how overtaken we were with that discussion,” she shared. “Fortunately, we have incredible actors, and we just had to find a way to make it truthful and make it make sense for them.

Charlize Theron's New Action Thriller With 24% Rt Score Becomes Instant Netflix Global Hit
Image
Charlize Theron's new action thriller with a 24% Rotten Tomatoes score has become an instant global hit on Netflix. After gaining recognition in the 1990s for her leading roles in The Devil's Advocate, Mighty Joe Young, and The Cider House Rules, Theron won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance as serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster (2003).

After becoming the first South African to win an Oscar for acting, Theron earned another nomination for playing a woman fighting for justice after being sexually assaulted in North Country (2005). From there, Theron went on to star in numerous high-grossing action films, including The Italian Job (2003), Hancock (2008), Prometheus (2012), Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), and Atomic Blonde (2017).

Theron has also starred in severalFast & Furious entries – The Fate of the Furious (2017), F9 (2021), and Fast X (2023). But still, her performances as complex and emotionally troubled women in Jason Reitman's dark comedies Young Adult (2011) and Tully (2018) received critical praise,...

Charlize Theron's Long Awaited Action Sequel Suffers an Ever-Dropping Critics' Rating on Rotten Tomatoes
Image
After five years of waiting, the immortals are back, led once again by Charlize Theron’s Andy. Just five days ago, The Old Guard 2 made its Netflix debut, becoming a global success and topping most charts across the world for the streamer. The sequel, which also stars the likes of Chiwetel Ejiofor, Luca Marinelli, Marwan Kenzari, Uma Thurman, Henry Golding, KiKi Layne, and Matthias Schoenaerts, looked to build upon the success of the first outing, which earned a “certified fresh” 80% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and 70% from audiences.

Alas, as many sequels do, Victoria Mahoney's The Old Guard 2 couldn't match the success of the original, stumbling out of the blocks with a 32% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, which has since dropped even further to a miserable 24%. Often, critics and viewers can be divided when it comes to movies such as this. However, this isn't the...

Netflix's 'Yellowstone' Dupe Retakes Its Spot in the Streaming Rankings From This 81% Rotten Tomatoes Fantasy Series
Image
Yellowstone is perhaps one of the most influential series on modern television. Not ones to miss a trick, Netflix recently released their own replacement of the series, The Waterfront, which stars Holt McCallany as land and restaurant owner Harlan Buckley. Not reaching the heights of Taylor Sheridan's franchise-spawning series, albeit with few shows managing such a feat, The Waterfront has still proven popular for Netflix, regularly sitting near the top of their global streaming rankings.

In the US, following the most recent weekend in which several high-profile titles demanded streaming attention, The Waterfront officially regained the #2 spot on Netflix's television charts, overtaking The Sandman amid the recent release of its immersive second season. Perhaps hampered by allegations of sexual assault against the source material's creator, The Sandman’s second season can't hit the top of Netflix's charts despite being one of the most high-profile new arrivals on streaming this past weekend.

‘Kill Bill’ Star, 55, Reveals the Grueling Training Sessions Behind the 85% Rotten Tomatoes Quentin Tarantino Classic
Image
A couple of decades ago, Kill Bill became an instant classic in action moviemaking. The Quentin Tarantino (Inglourious Basterds) movie paid homage to Japanese action films and featured a huge slate of fight sequences – all of them starring Uma Thurman. During an interview to promote her new movie The Old Guard 2, Thurman revealed how demanding her training schedule was in order to prepare for all the action scenes in the movie.

In the two Kill Bill films, The Bride (Thurman) does a little bit of everything. Since she's a professional killer, she has to be ready for any kind of fight. In a Netflix promotional video, her Old Guard 2 co-star Charlize Theron (Fast X) asks how long she trained for Kill Bill, and the answer revealed a grueling training routine that encompassed "three solid months, five days a week, nine to five." Thurman also explained that all of that...

Charlize Theron on Hanging Off a Helicopter in ‘The Old Guard 2,’ Possibility of Third Movie and Why She Hasn’t Directed Yet: ‘I Need My Kids to Get Out of the House’
Image
Ask Charlize Theron what her favorite stunt to do in “The Old Guard 2” was and the Oscar-winner doesn’t even blink.

“The helicopter hands down,” she told me at her recent Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Program Block Party fundraiser in Los Angeles. “We did it towards the end, and I was like, ‘Oh, my God, if I pull this off, I’m gonna be okay with never doing a stunt again.’ That didn’t last long, but it was intricate. It was psychological. The first two weeks of it was sitting down with the pilot and building trust. It was slow moves. But by the end, I was hanging off a helicopter, so who cares?”

As she was performing the scene, Theron said, “I was hanging in the air, going, ‘I’m going to never be able to stop saying that I hung off a helicopter.’”

The Victoria Mahoney-directed movie,...

‘Old Guard 2’ Star KiKi Layne on Panic Attacks, Cortisone Shots and Being a Black Female Action Hero: ‘All of This Is Much Bigger Than Me’
Image
It’s just days before the release of “The Old Guard 2,” but KiKi Layne is already thinking about a third movie in the action franchise. “I pray for it,” Layne says. “I’m like, ‘Please, everybody watch this movie. Come on, let’s get this greenlit.’ I would love to do it again.”

In the second installment, directed by Victoria Mahoney and available on Netflix, Layne reprises her role of Nile, an immortal ex-Marine who joins her fellow immortals to stop two of their own Discord (franchise newcomer Uma Thurman) and Quỳnh (Veronica Ngô) from destroying mankind.

I talked to Layne on Zoom the day after the movie’s red carpet premiere in Los Angeles. This Q&a has been edited for length and clarity.

Do you maintain your fitness for that long?...

Charlize Theron's Critically Panned Action Sequel Dominates Streaming Charts Despite 25% Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
What was The Old Guard 2 going to do, not top the Netflix streaming charts? That was never going to happen. The action sequel debuted ahead of the Fourth of July weekend, and promptly jumped to the top of the viewership rankings despite poor reviews. Unlike its predecessor, The Old Guard 2 didn't get any support from audiences either. Released in 2020, the first film was a runaway hit thanks to its engrossing world-building and slick action. Director Gina Prince-Bythewood didn't return this time around, however, handing over the reins of the series to Victoria Mahoney.

According to FlixPatrol, The Old Guard 2 has been Netflix's number one movie across the globe for three days in a row, accumulating a total of over 1,800 points so far. Thanks to its success, the original The Old Guard also witnessed an uptick in interest. It claimed the third spot on July 4. Starring Charlize Theron,...

Amid Brutal Reviews for The Old Guard 2, Charlize Theron Addresses Whether Part 3 Will Happen
Image
Though The Old Guard 2 keeps attracting newfound interest days after its Netflix debut, the anticipated sequel is a letdown to many critics and audiences hoping for a solid follow-up to the acclaimed 2020 original. Despite the poor reviews, franchise star Charlize Theron hints at The Old Guard expanding into a trilogy.

Speaking with ComicBook.com, Theron addressed the possibility of The Old Guard 3 happening amid the polarizing reception of the newly released second installment. Though the South African actor wouldn't give a definitive answer, she didn't rule out the chances of The Old Guard getting a threequel. “I’m not trying to be coy … We are really just going to take a beat. Hopefully fans love it, and that’s really where we’re at right now,” she said.

Despite Terrible Reviews, Charlize Theron's Highly-Anticipated Sequel Is Already a Massive Hit on Streaming After Just 1 Day
Image
Charlize Theron is back as the immortal Andromeda of Scythia in The Old Guard 2, the long-awaited sequel to Netflix's 2020 hit The Old Guard. However, the sequel failed to gain the same acclaim as the first entry.

The Old Guard 2 was in development for several years, as Netflix confirmed the sequel in 2021. The action film premiered on the platform on June 2, five years after the original. However, although The Old Guard 2 didn't feature the best reviews, it rose instantly to the top of the charts in just one day, FlixPatrol revealed.

Fans have been anticipating the release of the upcoming sequel, and, one week before its release, the 2020 original rose again on the charts. On Jul. 3, The Old Guard 2 topped the Top 10 Movies chart on Netflix, with the first installment following in third place.

The Old Guard 2 debuted at No. 1 in 87 countries, including the U.

The Old Guard 2
Image
Cast your mind back to 2020: when all the cinemas were shut and we found ourselves quarantined at home with nothing but streaming to entertain us. Gina Prince-Bythewood’s The Old Guard was one of the vanishingly few blockbusters available, proving a modest hit for Netflix. Based on the comics by Greg Rucka, it was a solid, old-fashioned action-adventure with a unique twist on immortality that further cemented Charlize Theron’s action-queen pedigree. Five years and many post-production delays later, Victoria Mahoney's forgettable follow-up can’t replicate that same joy. It’s a sequel devoid of the fun its predecessor had in abundance.

The action-heavy opener, which has enough editing cuts to rival Taken 3, begins like a franchise re-finding its groove, as our returning band of immortal warriors — plus newly recruited Copley (Chiwetel Ejiofor) — stop an arms shipment at a Croatian villa. There’s plenty on offer: a...

How Victoria Mahoney’s Groundbreaking ‘Star Wars’ Directing Gig Guided Her Work on ‘The Old Guard 2’
Image
Director Victoria Mahoney knows a little something about stepping into a beloved franchise and coming out the other side. In between her lauded 2011 feature film debut “Yelling to the Sky” and a wide assortment of TV directing gigs, Mahoney was hired as the second unit director on J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”

A “Star Wars” gig? That sounds great for any director, but when Mahoney was hired in 2018, it came with some added weight: The position meant that she’d be the first woman to direct on a “Star Wars” film ever.

So, yes, Mahoney knows a little something about stepping into a beloved franchise. For her second feature, Netflix’s “The Old Guard 2,” Mahoney is once again taking an established (and adored) series and making it her own. Following Gina Prince-Bythewood’s smash hit “The Old Guard,” Mahoney’s film picks up where the superhero story ended,...

'The Old Guard 2' Met With Divisive Response from Fans on Rotten Tomatoes
Image
They may be immortal, but The Old Guard can’t avoid the savagery of audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. After waiting five years for the sequel, The Old Guard 2 has now landed on Netflix, with the response from viewers leaving much to be desired as the superhero action sequel squanders the faith left behind by the first outing.

Alongside returning cast members Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Matthias Schoenaerts, Vân Veronica Ngô, Chiwetel Ejiofor, The Old Guard 2 adds Crazy Rich Asians, Snake Eyes, and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare star Henry Golding and Kill Bill star and Hollywood icon Uma Thurman to proceedings.

Sadly, this all-star cast cannot save The Old Guard 2 from being a disappointment to viewers and fans, with the action outing now forever stamped with a toppled popcorn bucket and a rating of 44% on Rotten Tomatoes’ audience-based Popcornmeter alongside just 28% from critics.

Victoria Mahoney will not return to direct if The Old Guard 3 happens
Charlize Theron
The Charlize Theron action film The Old Guard was a hit for the Netflix streaming service when it was released in 2020, but the sequel The Old Guard 2 has had an unexpectedly bumpy ride while making its way out into the world. It went into production back in 2022, and filming had to be halted briefly after a fire broke out at the film studio where the movie had been shooting; Rome, Italy’s historic Cinecittà Studios. Then there was a shake-up at Netflix during post-production, so the project got shut down for a while – and then there were reshoots. Theron was quoted as saying that it was back on track and coming soon last summer, but there was still another year left to wait. Now the movie is finally streaming (you can read our review Here)… which means it’s time to start talking about another sequel! But The Old Guard 2...

Review: The Old Guard 2 awakens from its tomb revitalized, but tired
Image
The Old Guard feels like a special niche of a film. Though it wasn't the most talked-about, it was a reliably entertaining movie with some charming flaws. To be honest, I had known about it but only tuned in last night, and man, I had a blast. I am unsure how faithful it is to the graphic novel of the same name, but The Old Guard should be proud of itself as an action-fantasy film.

After five long years (fitting for a story about immortals), The Old Guard 2 has released on Netflix to less acclaim than its predecessor. While it has many of the same things to love from the first installment, including spectacular fights, mysterious lore and lovable characters, it has some of the same flaws, and they're harder to excuse this time.

Review: The Old Guard 2

The Old Guard certainly wasn't a perfect movie, but it...

Before The Old Guard 2 Was Hit With Disastrous Reviews, Charlize Theron's Action Hit Returned to the Charts on Netflix
Image
Charlize Theron took on the role of Andromeda in Netflix's The Old Guard. The film was a massive success and Netflix granted a sequel, which premiered after five years after the original hit streaming.

Ahead of The Old Guard 2's release on June 2, Netflix subscribers got reacquainted with the original. The action hit was based on Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez's comic book of the same name, and it premiered to great success on the platform during the pandemic. In the week ahead of the sequel's release, 2020's The Old Guard rose on the charts, Tudum reveals.

For the week between June 23 and June 29, The Old Guard debuted in the global Top 10 in ninth place. The superhero action film received 3.2 million views, with 6.7 million hours viewed. It entered the Top 10 in nine countries, which was exciting ahead of the sequel's long-anticipated release.

The Old Guard 2 Rotten Tomatoes Score Revealed As First Reviews Land
Image
After a lengthy production delay, The Old Guard 2 is finally streaming on Netflix, and the review embargo has now lifted.

Gina Prince-Bythewood's original adaptation of Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez's sci-fi action comic series proved to be a massive hit for Netflix - it's actually still one of the streamer's most-viewed movies of all time - and also received a positive reception from critics.

Unfortunately, the same can't be said of the sequel.

Though it sounds like there might be some entertainment value to be found in seeing Charlize Theron cross swords with Uma Thurman's villain, the majority of critics were underwhelmed by The Old Guard 2. With 19 reviews counted (so the score will likely fluctuate), the movie is currently sitting at 32% on Rotten Tomatoes.

You can have a read through some individual reviews at the links below.

‘The Old Guard’ Recap: What to Remember Before the Sequel
Image
After five years, “The Old Guard 2” is finally landing on Netflix and it’s time for a refresher.

The first film landed on the streamer and skyrocketed in popularity in the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic. The film is an adaptation of the comic series from Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez. It follows a group of immortals who work to protect the mortal world from threats. Charlize Theron led the action film’s cast and is joined by Uma Thurman in the sequel.

Here’s everything you need to remember about the original before diving into the second one.

What is The Old Guard?

The Old Guard is a group of immortal assassins led by Andy (Charlize Theron). The rest of the team includes Booker (Matthias Schoenaerts), Joe (Marwan Kenzari) and Nicky (Luca Marinelli) and their newest recruit, Nile (KiKi Layne).

The group has worked together for hundreds...

5 Years Later, Charlize Theron's Long-Awaited Superhero Sequel Debuts With Very Different Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
Four years after getting a sequel, Charlize Theron's 2020 action hit The Old Guard is finally back. The Netflix action hit was based on Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez's comic book of the same name, and the first installment was a major hit.

The Old Guard 2, unfortunately, didn't live up to the hype. The sequel brings back Charlize Theron and her band of immortal warriors, but it failed to bring the same magic and didn't enchant the critics, prioritizing action over substance. Following its release on Netflix on June 2,The Old Guard 2 debuted with an unfortunate 32% score from the critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

The 2020 original boasts stunning reviews, with an 80% approval from the critics from over 280 reviews, and 70% from the audience. However, The Old Guard 2debuted with less than half of the original's score. The 32% approval score comes from only 19 reviews and the rating might fluctuate and...

The Old Guard 2 Review: Charlize Theron and Uma Thurman facing off highlights an underwhelming sequel
Image
Plot: Andy leads immortal warriors against a powerful enemy threatening their group. They grapple with the resurfacing of a long-lost immortal, complicating their mission to safeguard humanity.

Review: During the Covid-19 lockdown, Netflix’s The Old Guard was the perfect escapist entertainment we all needed. A fresh and fun action movie that brought some new energy to the comic book genre, The Old Guard was a nice counter to the typical Marvel and DC fare. Five years later, the long-awaited sequel is finally here, and it brings the showdown between Charlize Theron and Uma Thurman, which we never knew we wanted. The Old Guard 2 deepens the mythology from writer Greg Rucka’s comic books while setting up more sequels. The problem is that The Old Guard 2 is not as strong as the first film. Overstuffed with characters and narratives that do not connect organically, this is a mediocre...

Charlize Theron reveals her feelings on Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
Charlize Theron
Charlize Theron is back in The Old Guard 2 from Netflix. However, one of her most iconic characters would be presented to the world in 2015 with Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road. Since the release of the film and the subsequent reaction, George Miller would be developing a Furiosa solo prequel, which Theron would not be in consideration for. Theron reacted by saying, “Yeah, it’s a little heartbreaking, for sure. I really love that character, and I’m so grateful that I had a small part in creating her. She will forever be someone I think of and reflect on fondly. Obviously, I would love to see that story continue, and if he feels like he has to go about it this way, then I trust him in that manner. The Old Guard 2 Review: Hits of Brilliance in a Muddled War
Image
The first film presented a compelling paradox: a team of warriors for whom death was a forgotten concept, their centuries of existence layering high-stakes action with a profound existential weariness. The Old Guard 2 returns to this world only to shatter its foundational rule.

The team’s eternal anchor, their leader Andy (Charlize Theron), is now mortal. This inversion of her nature sends ripples through the group, fundamentally altering the stakes of every battle and every decision. The sequel picks up the threads of a narrative already frayed by internal strife, with the exile of Booker (Matthias Schoenaerts) leaving a wound on their found family.

Yet a far older and deeper wound is torn open with the reemergence of Quynh (Van Veronica Ngo), Andy’s first companion, who surfaces after five centuries of unspeakable torment at the bottom of the sea. The stage is thus set for a conflict defined...

Beginning with MovieWeb’s own Julian Roman, The Old Guard 2 failed to live up to the promise of its predecessor, which became one of Netflix’s biggest ever launches after being viewed by 72 million households in its first four weeks and landing a score of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes. Unfortunately, based on Rotten Tomatoes, the follow-up seriously fails to live up to what came before, with The Old Guard 2...

The Old Guard 2: Immortality’s End Ignites New Wars on Netflix
Charlize Theron in La vieja guardia 2 (2025)
The covert team of immortal mercenaries returns in The Old Guard 2, a sequel that expands the universe by turning its conflicts inward. The film, now streaming on Netflix, picks up with Andromache of Scythia, “Andy” (Charlize Theron), and her warriors continuing their centuries-long mission to protect humanity. This time, however, the stakes are profoundly personal. The team grapples with the consequences of the first film’s events: their existence is exposed, one of their own is in exile, and most critically, their seemingly eternal leader is now facing her own mortality. The central theme, underscored by the tagline “Eternity has a price,” shifts from a battle for survival against outside forces to a war for the very soul of the group, driven by past betrayals and ideological schisms.

A Fractured Family Under a Mortal Leader

The film delves into the altered dynamics of its core family of warriors. Andy...

‘The Old Guard 2’ Netflix Review: Less Of A Sequel, More Of A Trailer For The Third Film
Image
During the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, since we had become acutely aware of our mortality, I guess I began treating all cinema pretty leniently. What was great seemed like a masterpiece, and what was “mid” seemed pretty damn amazing. Now, I remember watching The Old Guard as soon as it dropped on Netflix, and it came across as this profound exploration of life and death. While there were action sequences to spice things up, what I found to be really interesting was the weight that all these invincible “gods” were carrying after witnessing countless man-made atrocities. They were borderline suicidal because they wanted their boon to end. And, of course, their search for a new purpose so that they could keep going was relatable. Upon a rewatch, yeah, the whole thing feels pretty generic, with the editing and choreography of the action sequences looking particularly ugly. 5 years have passed since its release,...

The Old Guard 2 Review — Charlize Theron Continues to Waste Our Time in Dull Netflix Franchise
Image
The Old Guard 2, the sequel to the Covid-era Netflix streaming hit, continues to waste our time in more ways than one. The action is dull — especially when it involves the actors — and only rises to “acceptable” when the stunt team takes over.

The script, particularly the dialogue, is yawn-inducing, making me grateful I’m not immortal. I can’t imagine watching this intellectual property get recycled for centuries. Then again, maybe it can be — since the writers have conveniently discovered a new storytelling device to write themselves out of any corner.

As Conan O’Brien jokes on his podcast, most superhero movies open a portal whenever they need one. In The Old Guard 2, immortality is traded like playing cards. Sometimes you have it, sometimes you don’t. It’s not a power—it’s a vibe.

‘The Old Guard 2’ Review: A Fun but Disposable Netflix Sequel Proves That Some Action Franchises Weren’t Built to Live Forever
Image
An uncommonly credible Netflix actioner about a team of immortal mercenaries who sell their skills to the highest bidder, Gina Prince-Bythewood’s “The Old Guard” was an oasis in the desert when it dropped on Netflix at the height of the pandemic, but I’d be lying if I said that it’s really stuck with me over the last five years. And yet, there’s one detail of its story that I haven’t been able to shake — a character fate so grim that it made living forever seem like a fate worse than death.

If you’ve seen the movie (or read the graphic novel series on which it’s based), you know what I’m talking about: An eternal warrior named Quỳnh (Van Veronica Ngo) is sealed inside an iron maiden during a 16th century witch trial and cast into the bottom of the sea, where she’s doomed to drown,...

‘The Old Guard 2’ Review: Charlize Theron and KiKi Layne Bring All the Right Moves, but Netflix Sequel Doesn’t Have the Same Kick
Image
A welcome surprise after months of Covid lockdown and upended release schedules, The Old Guard came along in 2020 to demonstrate that hard-charging action and emotionally textured drama need not be mutually exclusive. Its well-developed lead characters could handle themselves with Mma fight moves, knives, swords and Bronze Age axes. But they also had soulful interiority, their immortality sentencing them to existences of aching solitude and loss. Arriving five years later, Netflix’s sequel has most of those elements, but it’s missing the secret sauce — Gina Prince-Bythewood’s commanding direction.

Charlize Theron and KiKi Layne return as, respectively, the ancient — though still gorgeous, toned and nimble — warrior and the powerful fledgling immortal, along with a solid supporting cast that includes Marwan Kenzari and Luca Marinelli as Joe and Nicky, the gay couple whose relationship spans centuries. Joe’s unabashed declaration of love and the passionate kiss they shared in the...

The Old Guard Thought We’d Ignore How Charlize Theron Found a Total Stranger With Zero Clues
Image
In The Old Guard, Charlize Theron plays the role of a centuries-old immortal warrior who kicks off things boldly with a seemingly impossible mission- stealing an Army Humvee, dropping two armed soldiers to the ground, and essentially abducting A U.S Marine named Nile Freeman, from a highly guarded military base in Afghanistan.

The film received below-average ratings for its cliché-filled narrative. One subplot that stood out to fans and critics alike was the fact that Theron was able to find Nile without any real clues. The fact that Theron’s character did not even know Nile’s name, yet somehow was able to track her down to her exact location and escape undetected, is what is most baffling. Now, with The Old Guard 2 on its way, it might be worth dissecting why the filmmakers chose this angle.

Image
Charlize Theron will soon be back on the screen with her newest movie, The Old Guard 2, set to hit Netflix on July 2. Ahead of the movie's release, Theron has gotten some high praise from Henry Golding, one of her co-stars in the action sequel.

Per People, Golding addressed working with Cheron while at the Los Angeles premiere of The Old Guard 2 at Netflix's Tudum Theater. He compared Theron to Tom Cruise, remarking how they are similarly set leaders with a high work ethic who care deeply about every aspect of the production of their films. Golding also noted how Theron and Cruise are part of a diminishing class of major movie stars.

“You know what it is? She leads from the front. She’s like a rare commodity in Hollywood," Golding said of Theron. "She is the female counterpart to a Tom Cruise. She’s the producer. She...

‘Crazy Rich Asians’ Show Gets an Incredible Update From Original Star
Image
Henry Golding offered a crazy rich update about the future of the Crazy Rich Asians franchise. While appearing alongside his The Old Guard 2 co-star, Charlize Theron, on a recent episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, the A Simple Favor star opened up about the highly-anticipated continuation of the story which started with the box office-dominating 2018 film. After being asked by Cohen about where the team was at in the creative process, Golding said,

“Something’s been made. They’re actually gonna do a series. Aiming for first quarter even next year. There are scripts hanging around, not passed on yet, so I haven’t read anything.”

As Cohen is quick to point out, the first quarter of 2026 is just a few months away, so production better get moving if it has any hopes of staying on schedule. The episodic follow-up was first announced last summer, with...

Charlize Theron’s ‘Old Guard 2’ Mullet Made Her Daughters Cry: “They Want Mom to Look Like a Princess”
Image
Charlize Theron’s daughters weren’t too fond of her hair makeover in The Old Guard 2.

During a Tuesday appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the host confirmed that the Oscar winner sported a “real mullet” for the film as opposed to wearing a wig. Meyers further asked Theron what her children thought about the new hairdo, to which she admitted that one of her daughters began crying when they saw the change.

“I was in my bathroom and I was getting it cut and it had been already colored, and I just remember looking over and they both came into the room really excited, and then they just both froze,” she said. “And they just went [blank] and one started crying. One [of my kids] literally started bawling her eyes out.”

Theron said that after her reaction, she had to have a conversation with her child about her new hairstyle: “I...

Charlize Theron's Long-Awaited Sequel to Netflix's 80% Rotten Tomatoes Actioner Gets Tense Soundtrack Sneak Peek [Exclusive]
Image
Before you watch Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road) lead a star-studded ensemble when The Old Guard 2arrives on Netflix next month, listen to the sounds of sacrifice in Collider’s exclusive reveal of one of the main tunes from the film’s score. Aptly titled “Sacrifice,” the single is the first to come from the movie’s soundtrack, which was co-scored by Ruth Barrett and Steffen Thum. The composition in question fully leans into the goosebump-inducing powers that only a full orchestra can provide, as rousing strings drive the piece forward with plenty of emotion, and a perfectly placed timpani highlights the theme’s building intensity.

Giving some insight into the vision that went into this specific track, Barrett and Thum said:

"‘Sacrifice’ is a track that features at a critical and heartbreaking moment in the movie. This is Andy’s (Charlize Theron) theme in its most tragic form,...

The summer is still young, but soon it’s about to get hotter, as Netflix’s one of the most adored films, The Old Guard, has a sequel on the way for the audience to enjoy some R-rated action. The sequel has been in the works for quite some time, receiving bleak updates in the process.

This made the fans wait for the film for half a decade, which had been building anticipation following the massive success of the flick in 2020. With the sequel roaring back to life, making the fans jump with impatience and excitement, it turns out the premiere film had a massive problem that nearly derailed the action franchise.

Several reputable media outlets suggest that creative tension between Charlize Theron and Greg Rucka broke out on the set of the film.
