Florida, US, June 27 (Ians) The PGA Tour and the Presidents Cup on Tuesday announced that the 2028 Presidents Cup will be contested at Kingston Heath Golf Club, one of the most iconic venues on the famed Melbourne Sandbelt.

The 2028 Presidents Cup will mark the event’s fourth visit to Melbourne, with the Tour having previously announced a long-term commitment with Visit Victoria to staging the Presidents Cup in Melbourne in 2028 and 2040.

Consistently ranked as one of the top courses in Australia and around the world, Kingston Heath was designed by Australia’s Dan Soutar and features a natural bunkering layout spearheaded by legendary architect Alister Mackenzie in 1926. Among the noteworthy championships held at Kingston Heath include the Australian Open, which has been hosted seven times and most recently in 2022 when it shared duties with Victoria Golf Club. It has also hosted the 2009 and 2012 Australian Masters, the 2008 Women’s Australian Open, and the 2016 World Cup of Golf.

Ponte Vedra Beach (Florida), Dec 1 (Ians) Presidents Cup and PGA Tour officials announced on Thursday that Canadian and Masters champion Mike Weir has been named captain of the International Team for the 2024 Presidents Cup, which will return to Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, Quebec (Canada) for the first time since 2007.

Primed for his maiden captaincy, Weir has served as captain’s assistant in three consecutive ‘playings’, most recently under the leadership of Trevor Immelman at the 2022 Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow Club. He was an assistant for Ernie Els in 2019, which saw the International Team build its biggest lead in Presidents Cup history before falling to a Tiger Woods-led US Team, 16-14, at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club, in Melbourne, Australia. The Albany (Bahamas), Nov 28 (Ians) Tiger Woods makes his long-awaited return to action this week as the 15-time Major winner competes for the first time since July at the Hero World Challenge.

Before that the only events he turned up for were the Masters and the PGA Championship. Yet, between now and the end of 2022, Woods will be seen in action at the Hero World Challenge, a high-profile event that has just 20 players, all of them barring three are inside Top-23 of the world.

Two of the other three, Kevin Kisner (31) and Corey Conners, a late replacement for the injured Hideki Matsuyama (19) add to the field. Only Woods, the host is specially ‘exempt’ at 1277, not having played since the Open and only three events for a total of nine rounds – four at the Masters, three at PGA before withdrawing and two at the Open before missing the cut at St Andrews.

Golf journalist Tim Rosaforte got the type of tribute today from Jack Nicklaus that journalists usually heap on legends like Jack Nicklaus. Rosaforte, who was one of the top golf journalists in the world and one of the most popular announcers on Golf Channel and NBC Sports, died Tuesday of Alzheimer’s disease. He was 66.

Nicklaus began a three-tweet tribute to Rosaforte with the following: “Many hearts, including Barbara’s & mine, hurt today after the passing of our friend Tim Rosaforte. Tim had a wonderful ability to develop trust from so many, and because of that—plus his work ethic—if there was an important story to be told in golf, Tim usually reported it first.”
