Wicked Director & Ariana Grande Reuniting For Movie Adaptation Of Dr. Seuss' Final Book
Image
Ariana Grande-Butera and Wickeddirector Jon M. Chu are reuniting, and this time they are adapting Dr. Seuss' final book. In many Wicked reviews, Chu's direction and Grande-Butera's portrayal of Glinda are two of the most celebrated aspects of the Broadway musical adaptation.

With the 2024 movie only being the first half of the adaptation, Grande-Butera and Chu's collaboration is set to continue this November with the release of Wicked: For Good, which will conclude the emotional story of Glinda, Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), and Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey).

Chu already has several projects lined up after Wicked: For Good, including a Britney Spears biopic and a movie based on the Hot Wheels toys. Now,...

Hollywood Insider - Beyond the Spotlight: What Earning an Egot Really Says About a Star

From Audrey Hepburn to Elton John, these icons have claimed the ultimate showbiz honor — but an Egot is more than just a trophy shelf flex. The Most Exclusive Club in Entertainment Winning an Egot — the acronym for Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony — represents one of the rarest and most prestigious accomplishments in the world of entertainment. With fewer than 25 stars in history having pulled it off through competitive wins, joining this club is more than collecting awards — it signals an artist’s ability to transcend mediums, reinvent themselves, and remain relevant across decades (explaining Audrey Hepburn’s spot in victory). The latest artists to join the Egot club are Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. They secured their Emmy in September 2024 for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for ‘Only Murders in the Building,’ completing their Egot...

Mike Love Pays Tribute to Brian Wilson at Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction: “I Do Feel His Presence”
Image
Mike Love gave thanks to his late cousin and Beach Boys bandmate and co-writer Brian Wilson during his Songwriters Hall of Fame induction in New York on Thursday night, telling the crowd of fellow writers and industry insiders that “I do feel his presence” in the room as he accepted his honor.

Love’s induction to the Songwriters Hall of Fame came just a day after Wilson died Wednesday at age 82, and 25 years after Wilson himself was inducted into the Hall back in 2000.

“I especially must thank my cousin Brian Wilson,” Love said Thursday. “My first cousin by blood but brother in music, together we set the stage for some of the most successful music collaborations of all time.”

Love was inducted by John Stamos, a famously huge Beach Boys fan who’s collaborated with the band frequently. In his induction speech, Stamos said that Love chronicled “the American dream” with the songs he wrote.

Snow White Hits Disney+ Tomorrow After Finishing Box Office Run As One Of Disney's Lowest Grossing Remakes
Image
Lilo and Stitch has proven that there's still plenty of life in Disney's live-action remakes of animated classics, but the recent reimagining of one of the Mouse House's most popular and well-known tales was a rare misfire.

Snow White arrives on Disney+ tomorrow, and has officially finished up its box office run as one of Disney's worst performing live-action remakes.

The movie, which stars Rachel Zegler in the title role and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, ended its theatrical run with $205.5 million worldwide. Only 2016's Pete's Dragon ($143.7 million and 2020's Mulan ($69.9 million) - which, to be fair, debuted during Covid with a simultaneous Premier Access streaming release - have fared worse.

Snow White received mostly negative reviews (40% on Rotten Tomatoes), but was plagued by controversy (whether it was warranted or not is up for debate) in the build-up to its release, which probably didn't help.

Be it Zegler's comments about the animated original,...

2025 Tony Awards highlights: The best, the worst, and the ‘Hamilton’ mixtape
Image
With a Wicked host at the helm — that would be Elphaba actress and Tony winner Cynthia Erivo — it’s no surprise the 78th annual Tony Awards had its fair share of magical moments.

The evening, celebrating the best and brightest of the 2024-25 Broadway season, aired live from Radio City Music Hall in New York and had no shortage of star power, thrilling performances, and a few surprises hiding in the wings. Read on for the highlights (and a few lowlights) from the 2025 Tonys telecast.

Best: Cynthia Erivo’s opening number

Some Tony Awards openers go full tilt — loads of dancers and props and shiny bells and whistles, but when you have Cynthia Erivo, what compares to that voice? After a set-up where she kindly declines advice for what she should do to open the show, and some affirmation from Oprah Winfrey herself that “the only thing you need to do is just be yourself,...

‘Snow White’ Sets Disney+ Streaming Premiere for June
Image
“Snow White” is headed home.

Disney’s live-action version of its own beloved animated classic will arrive on Disney+ next week, debuting on the direct-to-consumer platform on June 11. The movie was directed by Marc Webb and stars Rachel Zegler in the title role, with Gal Gadot at the Evil Queen. The new songs were written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the Oscar-winning team behind “La La Land” and “The Greatest Showman.”

“Snow White” was released earlier this spring. Surrounded by interlocking, focus-pulling controversies (everything from Zegler’s Hispanic heritage to the politically leanings of its stars), it grossed a little over $205 million worldwide. This probably would have been impressive except that the budget was a reported $240 to $270 million. (The New York Times claimed the movie cost at least $350 million to make and market.)

It doesn’t help that it was based on one of the most technologically sophisticated and...

‘Snow White’ Gets Disney+ Streaming Date in June
Image
Families can soon enjoy Disney’s live-action remake of “Snow White” from the comfort of their own homes as the family tentpole arrives June 11 on Disney+.

Stream 'Snow White' On Disney+ $9.99/Month

Starring “West Side Story” breakout Rachel Zegler in the lead role, “Snow White” is the latest Disney property to be remade in the 21st century. Based on the 1937 animated classic “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” this new take on the story once again follows the princess as she runs away from her evil stepmother, played by Gal Gadot, and befriends a group of seven dwarfs in a forest.

The film was helmed by “500 Days of Summer” and “The Amazing Spider-Man” director Marc Webb and written by “The Girl on the Train” scribe Erin Cressida Wilson. Like some of the other recent Disney live-action remakes, though, the film underwhelmed at the box office, opening below...

Disney's New 40% Rotten Tomatoes Live-Action Remake Just Set an Early Streaming Release Date
Image
Disney’s Snow White is heading to Disney+ on June 11, after its troubled theatrical run squeezed out a few more unexpected headlines. The remake, starring Rachel Zegler as Disney’s original princess, began its box office life with promise, dethroning Captain America: Brave New World with a $42 million domestic debut. However, the honeymoon ended quickly. In its second weekend, Snow White cratered with a 66% drop, slipping to second place behind Jason Statham’s A Working Man. Things got worse from there, as the film dropped to fourth when A Minecraft Movie shattered records with a $162 million domestic opening.

However, the bigger picture remains bleak. Snow White has grossed $87.2 million domestically and $118.3 million internationally, for a worldwide total of $205.5 million. That might seem like a decent number — until you factor in its massive production and marketing costs. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film currently sits at a dismal 40% from critics and a moderately disappointing 72% from audiences.

‘Snow White’: Rachel Zegler Movie Tunes Up Disney+ Premiere Date
Image
Disney’s Snow White live-action movie starring Rachel Zegler, which was mired in controversy from the moment before ‘go’, will debut on Disney+ on June 11.

That’s an 82 day window from the pic’s theatrical release on March 21.

This is where the truth will be told on the legacy of this Marc Webb directed movie, which features songs from Egot winning songwriting team, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, and was produced by Wicked‘s Marc Platt. For it’s on the streaming service that Disney recognizes pic’s popularity and worth, thus determining whether they get sequels or future theatrical releases.

Read, it was on Disney+ that the studio first noticed the power of Moana and Lilo & Stitch, which respectively led to a sequel and live-action feature adaptation. Moana 2 minted $1.059 billion at the global box office and has a live-action version set for next year, while Lilo & Stitch is about to cross $300M domestic,...

Snow White continues Disney’s strategy of adapting its classic animated films into live-action features, but does so by taking things all the way back to the beginning. The original Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was released in 1937 and served as Disney’s first feature length animated film, making it one of the most influential animated films (if not films) of all time. The live-action remake stars West Side Story’s Rachel Zegler as the Disney princess and Gal Gadot as her stepmother, the Evil Queen.

While the past was very much honored in this new take on the story by director Marc Webb–Snow White pulled from original concept art to expand on the first film’s world–the movie was also beholden to modern moviemaking techniques. This was also true with the musical score, composed by Jeff Morrow. While other musicians like Benj Pasek, Justin Paul, and...

How To Watch Rachel Zegler's Snow White Movie At Home
Image
Disney is bringing its latest live-action remake home. After a not-so-great run in theaters, director Marc Webb's "Snow White" is making its way to digital marketplaces and, soon enough, streaming. So, those who perhaps didn't catch it in theaters will now be able to watch it from the comfort of their couch.

Starring Rachel Zegler as the famed Disney Princess and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, "Snow White" serves as a re-imagining of the enduring animated classic "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." There are some pretty major differences between the films, however, as the live-action "Snow White" sees the titular princess join forces with seven dwarfs and a group of rebels to liberate her kingdom from her wicked stepmother. Now, all of the magic, music, and romance will be available with just the few clicks of a button.

Rachel Zegler's Snow White Sets VOD & Blu-Ray Release Dates After Box Office Cracks $200M Worldwide
Image
Snow White's digital and physical media release dates have now been revealed as the film's disappointing theatrical run continues. Serving as a live-action adaptation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), the new film features Rachel Zegler as the titular Disney Princess, with Gal Gadot playing the Evil Queen. Snow White has been mired in controversy since before its theatrical release on March 21, and the film was ultimately met with lackluster reviews and has so far grossed just $200 million worldwide.

Disney now confirms that Snow White will be available to rent and purchase on VOD starting Tuesday, May 13. A special two-movie bundle that includes the original animated Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will also be available digitally on this date. The announcement accompanies the reveal that the live-action remake will arrive on 4K Uhd and Blu-ray on June 24, with this date also marking the release of the DVD version of the two-movie collection.

Snow White Banned In Lebanon Due To Wonder Woman Star Gal Gadot's "Boycott List" Status
Image
As if Disney's live-action Snow White remake wasn't experiencing enough box office woes, the movie has now been banned completely in one particular region.

According to Variety, Snow White has been banned from playing in all movie theaters in Lebanon due to the involvement of Evil Queen actress Gal Gadot, who is said to be on the country's "boycott list."

Lebanon’s Interior Minister Ahmad Al-Hajjar reportedly ordered the ban after being prompted to take action by the country’s film and media watchdog amid Israel’s ongoing attacks on Hezbollah. However, Beirut-based Middle East distributor Italia Films believes that the ban would have happened anyway, as Gadot has long been on Lebanon’s “Israel boycott list” and no movie in which she appears in has ever been released there.

The Wonder Woman star has been an open supporter of Israel, and served in the Israel Defense Forces (as her...

Disney’s ‘Snow White’ Banned in Lebanon Due to Gal Gadot’s Ties to Israel
Image
Disney’s “Snow White” has been banned from playing in movie theaters in Lebanon as star Gal Gadot is on the country’s boycott list, according to local media reports.

Local newspaper An-Nahar reported that the ban was ordered by Lebanon’s Interior Minister Ahmad al-Hajjar, who made the decision amid Israel’s ongoing attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon, which have killed civilians.

Gadot, who portrays The Evil Queen in the live-action remake, was born in Israel and served in the Israel Defense Forces. She has been an outspoken advocate for the country since the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks.

“Never did I imagine that on the streets of the United States, and different cities around the world, we would see people not condemning Hamas, but celebrating, justifying and cheering on a massacre of Jews,” Gadot said in a March 4 speech at the Anti-Defamation League’s annual summit in New York City.

‘Snow White:’ Lebanon Bans Disney Remake Over Inclusion Of Israeli Actress Gal Gadot
Image
Lebanon has banned Disney’s Snow White remake from playing in cinemas because Israeli actress Gal Gadot, one of the film’s stars, is on the country’s boycott list.

Ahmad Hajjar, Lebanon’s Interior Minister, recommended the ban, according to local newspaper An-Nahar.

Gadot stars as the Evil Queen in Snow White. The actress was born in Israel and prior to becoming a model and actress, served in the Israel Defense Forces, as her native country mandates it. Gadot has been a prominent supporter of Israel since October 7 and the country’s subsequent military campaign in Gaza. During an impassioned speech at the Anti-Defamation League’s summit in 2024, she said: “Never did I imagine that on the streets of the United States, and different cities around the world, we would see people not condemning Hamas, but celebrating, justifying and cheering on a massacre of Jews.”

Snow White May Fail To Hit $100 Million At Domestic Box Office After Disasterous 60% Drop
Image
Disney’s Snow White took in just $1.5 million on Friday in the U.S., dropping 60% from its daily total one week ago.

The movie is now in fourth place at the domestic box office (video game adaptation A Minecraft Movie immediately shot to No. 1), and currently sits at $72 million, putting it in serious danger of failing to hit the $100 million milestone in North America. This would be a disastrous result for a film with a reported production budget of $250 million.

Snow White received mixed-negative reviews from critics (it's now dropped to 40% on Rotten Tomatoes), but audiences did seem to be getting a little more out of it for the most part (71%). That said, CinemaScore recently revealed that the movie has earned a B+ grade, which isn't terrible by any means, but is reportedly the lowest ever CinemaScore for any live-action Disney remake. The studio's most recent offering, Mufasa: The Lion King,...

Snow White Star Rachel Zegler's "Narcissism" To Blame For Box Office Woes According To Producer's Son
Image
Disney's Snow White hit theaters last Friday, and the movie has not been performing very well at the box office, making just $43 million over the course of its opening weekend in the U.S. The latest updates put the fantasy adventure at just under $50M domestic, but it still hasn't reached $100M worldwide.

Critics have not been overly kind to Disney's latest live-action remake, although it's important to note that the movie has been the source of "controversy" for quite a while, with stars Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot both coming in for backlash for their very different stances on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. Zegler also made some comments about the original animated classic that didn't go over very well with fans.

This week, Variety published what many consider to be a "hit piece" on Zegler, and the article definitely suggests that the studio is at least partially laying the...

Dismal box office. Backstage drama. But here’s how ‘Snow White’ could still seriously compete at the Oscars.
Image
Sure, headlines are calling its launch "a fiasco" and suggesting its underwhelming box office is "in bomb terrority," but there's a case to be made that Disney’s embattled Snow White could be among next year’s Oscar nominees.

Call us Dopey if you must. However, there are several Oscar-winning and -nominated artisans involved in the film's production. Without the consultation of the mirror, here’s the fairest case for the live-action Snow White with Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot to land some awards recognition next year.

Best Costume Design

Sandy Powell is one of the most-decorated costume designers of all time, with 15 Oscar nominations and three wins — and she has notably already received Oscar nominations for her previous Disney live-action movies: 2015’s Cinderella and 2018’s Mary Poppins Returns. This is also a category where the live-action Disney remakes have historically performed exceptionally well: Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast,...

Snow White Underperforms With $43 Million Debut; Captain America: Brave New World Passes $400M Worldwide
Image
Disney's Snow White arrived in theaters on Friday, and the Mouse House's latest live-action remake looks set for a disappointing opening weekend at the box office.

The musical fantasy adventure, which stars Rachel Zegler as the titular Princess and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, came in under already modest $45 million estimates with a $43 million domestic debut. The movie took in another $44.3 million overseas, which means it will fail to hit its predicted $100 million global bow with just $87.3 million.

This was enough to give Snow White the No. 1 spot, and the movie is sure to benefit from a lack of big-screen competition for the next couple of weeks before A Minecraft Movie hits theaters.

A recent Forbes article claimed that Snow White's budget had ballooned to a whopping $269.4 million by the end of 2023 (current reports put it at $250M), which obviously puts a lot of pressure on the movie to...

Snow White Now Set For $45M Debut After Recieving Worst CinemaScore Of Any Disney Live-Action Remake
Image
Disney's Snow White is now in theaters, and the Mouse House's latest live-action remake isn't exactly off to the most magical start at the domestic box office.

The musical fantasy adventure, which stars Rachel Zegler as the titular Princess and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, took in $16 million on Friday (including Thursday pre-shows), which is just slightly higher than 2019's Dumbo.

Despite initial estimates of $50 million, the movie is now on track for a $45 million (some believe it'll be closer to $48M) opening weekend in the U.S., but is still expected to pass (or at least hit) $100 million worldwide by Monday.

A recent Forbes article claimed that Snow White's budget had ballooned to a whopping $269.4 million by the end of 2023 (current reports put it at $250M), which obviously puts a lot of pressure on the movie to become a massive box office success. The film won't have...

All the Songs in ‘Snow White’: Does the Live-Action Remake Include Songs From the Original?
Image
Disney’s latest live-action remake of one of their classic animations is “Snow White,” and if you’re wondering how close it sticks to the original, you’re not alone. Especially when it comes to the songs.

Now in theaters, the film follows Snow White (Rachel Zegler), a young princess who loses both of her parents and now lives with just the Evil Queen. Snow remembers the kingdom as it was under her parents’ rule though, pushing the Queen to act with kindness and fairness. You can guess how that goes.

In terms of story, it does deviate from the original 1937 film in various places — including the songs. For the 2025 version, Disney tapped Egot-winning “La La Land” songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, known together as Pasek and Paul, to create original songs for the film. But don’t worry, you’ll definitely hear a few of the classics.

Dwarfs, No More! Snow White Makes Some Huge, Likely Controversial Changes To The Classic Cartoon - Spoilers
Image
Taking aside all of the supposed controversies surrounding Snow White, many Disney fans are unhappy with the movie starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot not because of politics or skin colour, but what appears to be a series of sweeping changes from the original 1937 cartoon.

Leading up to the movie's release, it was reported that the Seven Dwarfs had been completely scrapped to instead focus on a group of "politically correct" Bandits.

Zegler's comments comparing the original Prince being a "stalker" also raised eyebrows, but just how extensive are the changes?

Disney has come under fire for making shot-for-shot remakes of its animated catalogue of titles but as soon as they start shaking things up, the backlash comes quickly and is always very loud.

As we first explained on Toonado.com, Marc Webb's remake makes many changes, starting with the origin of Snow White's name. No longer given...

Snow White Off To A Sleepy Start At U.S. Box Office Following Negative Reviews And Online Backlash
Image
You don't need to be a Disney fan to be aware of Snow White. The movie has been making headlines for years, typically for all the wrong reasons.

Whether it's Rachel Zegler's divisive comments about the 1937 classic, Gal Gadot's stance on the Gaza war, or the many changes Disney has made to the story to update it for the present day, there's a lot of negative buzz surrounding this one. Throw in the fact reviews haven't been good and Snow White's opening weekend is off to a sleepy start.

According to Variety (via Toonado.com), the movie only drew an estimated $3.5 million from Thursday previews screenings; that's a long way off what Aladdin ($7 million), The Lion King ($23 million), Beauty and the Beast ($16.3 million) made, for example.

Snow White is, however, performing better than Maleficent: Mistress of Evil ($2.3 million), Dumbo ($2.6 million), and even Mufasa: The Lion King ($3.3 million...

Snow White: The 5 Biggest Changes In Disney's Live-Action Remake
Image
Spoilers for "Snow White" (2025) ahead.

By this point, it almost feels as if Disney has already remade every one of its animated classics in live-action. It's a trend that started in the mid-1990s with the Mouse House's live-action redo of "101 Dalmatians," before really ramping up in 2010 with Tim Burton's 3D version of "Alice in Wonderland." Now, at long last, the studio has gone back to the movie that started it all.

Both Disney's first feature film and feature-length animated movie, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" was released in 1937. Its number is finally up, though, as Disney has gone and refashioned it as a blend of live-action and CGI, this time going under the title "Snow White." (You can read /Film's review of the film here.) With "West Side Story" and "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" alum Rachel Zegler playing the titular heroine...

Snow White’s Scary Adventure: Inside the Bumpy Ride to Get Her Remake to the Big Screen
Image
On Saturday, March 15, on a sunny afternoon, Disney’s “Snow White” finally had its big premiere at the Disney-owned El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. There was a brightly decorated pre-party with activities for kids. The stars of the movie, Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, who had weathered respective controversies, showed up and even took pictures together, sometimes with director Marc Webb sandwiched in-between them. Instead of actual press, Disney had Jodi Benson, the voice of Ariel in 1989’s animated classic “The Little Mermaid,” asking questions on behalf of D23, the company’s in-house fan club. A chubby bunny hopped down the red carpet.

The premiere felt like a joyful release, or maybe a guttural scream, depending on who you talk to, and served as the culmination of a nearly 10-year journey to get this gauzy remake of Walt Disney’s original animated classic back to the big screen. That near-decade had been besieged by controversy,...

Rachel Zegler Plays The Best Live-Action Disney Princess In The Worst Live-Action Disney Remake
Image
As long as they keep making money, Disney is going to continue cranking out live-action remakes of its animated classics, even if it means sacrificing its magic in the process. All art is subjective, which means there's no universal truth to declaring what determines the "best" or "worst" of these reimaginings, but I can say with confidence that Rachel Zegler is, hands down, the best live-action Disney Princess we've ever seen. Mind you, I have a deep affinity for Lily James' absolutely perfect portrayal of Cinderella, but I also lamented that she didn't get to sing "A dream is a wish your heart makes." Meanwhile, I'm far less critical of Emma Watson's Belle than most critics, mostly because the "Beauty and the Beast" retelling isn't great, but I can still admit something was lacking to transcend the character into the kind of unignorable magnetism inherent in all Disney Princesses.
