HBO's Lanterns has added a big name to their cast as Kelly Macdonald is set to join the Dcu. Macdonald made her film debut in the iconic 1996 film Trainspotting and has since become an acclaimed actress with several major roles under her belt, including being the voice of Merida in Pixar's Brave. In2006, she won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie for her role in The Girl in the Caf. In thefollowing year, she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in No Country for Old Men at the BAFTAs. Meanwhile, she was nominated for an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her role as Margaret Thompson on the hit HBO series Boardwalk Empire.

By Green Lantern’s light, no evil shall escape Kelly Macdonald’s sight as she joins DC’s Lanterns series. Known for her starring role as Margaret Thompson in Boardwalk Empire, Carla Jean Moss in No Country for Old Men, and the voice of Merida in Disney’s Brave, Macdonald joins the series to play Sheriff Kerry, a “no-nonsense woman deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town.” Hardened by a complicated past, Sheriff Kerry answers the call when her community’s secrets start bubbling to the surface. While not confirmed, Sheriff Kerry may be a love interest for Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan.

Chris Mundy (Ozark) will serve as showrunner and executive producer and will co-write the series alongside Damon Lindelof (The Leftovers) and Tom King (Supergirl), who will also executive produce. James Hawes, a prolific TV director best known for Black Mirror and Slow Horses, will helm the first two episodes.

Lanterns has cast its first non-Green Lantern character. Kelly Macdonald is set to star in the upcoming DC Universe series, which begins production in January 2025.

Per Deadline, Macdonald will play "Sheriff Kerry, a no-nonsense woman deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town. Her resilience, shaped by a complex past thats hardened her resolve, anchors her when the communitys secrets begin to surface." Her previous acting credits include Margaret Thompson in Boardwalk Empire, Helena Ravenclaw in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, and Princess Merida in Brave.

Macdonald joins a cast that currently includes Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. Favorably compared to the acclaimed HBO drama series, True Detective, the upcoming Green Lanterns series follows "new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland,...
