His siblings include two sisters, including an elder sister (by five years) who holds a doctorate in fungal genetics, and lives in Adelaide, Australia.

During his degree, he studied a subject called Mechanistic Toxicology, which involved understanding how poisons causes injuries if there are side effects, at a molecular level.
