All 5 Seasons Of Warehouse 13, Ranked Worst to Best
Image
Warehouse 13 is a beloved long-running sci-fi series that ran for five seasons (65 episodes) between 2009 and 2014 that focused on the titular secret government facility. The series follows two U.S. Secret Service Agents, Myka Bering (Joanne Kelly) and Pete Lattimer (Eddie McClintock), who are tasked to the Warehouse and its incredible contents, featuring dangerous items and powerful artifacts that have paranormal or supernatural elements. The agents sort and uncover secrets about the contents, with storylines combining elements from their personal and professional lives.

The show feels like a mix of Doctor Who and The X-Files, with all the best aspects of both: a deeply personal character study of the lead characters mixed with fantastical sequences and other-worldly story arcs. A top-rated episode, like Season 1, Episode 12, 'MacPherson' shows an emotional core combined with an exciting narrative, whereas another, like Season 3, Episode 6, 'Don't Hate the Player' shows the series' comedic side with a lighter-hearted plot.

10 Lighthearted & Fun Sci-Fi Shows That Don't Go Too Deep
Image
Science fiction is a genre that uses futuristic concepts, science, and technologies to explore humanity's capabilities. However, while elements like time travel, space exploration, and parallel universes are perfect for philosophical musings, they can also be leveraged for lighthearted hijinks and comedy. Lighthearted comedic sci-fi shows can utilize the high-stakes settings in the genre and find humor in the fantastical and otherworldly settings.

TV shows that flawlessly blend sci-fi elements with comedy and fun shenanigans often highlight the absurdity of the sci-fi genre and its tropes. Additionally, incredible sci-fi shows that embrace the zany and chaotic nature of the story give hope that the future isn't a dystopian wasteland filled with horrors. Comedic sci-fi shows can prove that no matter how science and technology change humans, humans will find a way to celebrate life with laughter and joy.

10 Older Sci-Fi TV Shows That Are Still Extremely Entertaining
Image
Some sci-fi TV shows have gotten even better with time and make for a great re-watch. One of the most entertaining things about watching an older sci-fi show or movie is to see how they envisage the future. Back to the Future has proved that self-tying shoes and flying cars may not be one of humanity's top priorities, but watching a show about the future, made in the past, can be both frightening and hilarious.

Viewers have also always been curious about discovering other planets or alternate realities. Some series tend to tackle the subject with care and trepidation, while others focus on a more lighthearted approach. But, the true beauty of the best sci-fi shows is embracing all the suspension of disbelief that the genre so graciously offers. While some classics like Star Trek don't even need to be mentioned, some relatively old shows from the last 20 years or so shouldn't be forgotten either.

10 Long-Running Sci-Fi TV Shows That Are Great All The Way Through
Image
There are several incredible sci-fi shows that see long runs on television, airing without seeing a single bad season. This is in stark contrast to the trend that seems to be developing more and more as of late, where sci-fi shows that don't deserve to be canceled are prematurely ended, and other underappreciated sci-fi shows never get the recognition they deserve. Although some long-running sci-fi shows like Doctor Who have been panned in recent years for poorly written seasons, many sci-fi shows with five seasons or more retain a consistent standard.

Though there are many incredible sci-fi movies set to release in 2025, sometimes a sci-fi TV show with plenty of episodes is exactly what a viewer needs. It is rare to find a series that truly has no bad seasons, remaining of a certain quality all the way through. With so many quality seasons to keep one busy, shows like...

Buku Abi, the daughter of disgraced R&b singer R. Kelly, has opened up about her tumultuous relationship with her father in the new two-part docuseries Karma: A Daughter’s Journey, released on Tvei Streaming Network.

These allegations first surfaced in 2019, when Kelly was accused of sexual abuse on multiple occasions after the Surviving R. Kelly documentary was released.

Following Abi’s public reference to her father’s estrangement as a “monster,” Kelly’s close associates told TMZ that Kelly thought Abi and her siblings had been “brainwashed” by their mother.

Why Did Leena Leave Warehouse 13?
Image
Let's be honest; there should be more television series like Syfy's Warehouse 13. The series ran five seasons between 2009 and 2014, generally providing carefree and silly entertainment that combined science fiction and comedy into one rip-roaring package as secret agents Pete Lattimer (Eddie McClintock) and Myka Bering (Joanne Kelly) chased down and secured a never-ending trove of relics and artifacts deemed too dangerous for the world.

Equal parts thrilling, silly, and sometimes downright unbelievable, Warehouse 13 was buoyed by an incredible cast of characters brought to life by some seriously talented actors. Today, the show is still beloved by its many former fans, some of whom have always wondered what led to the fan-favorite character, Leena, the enigmatic proprietor of the Bed and Breakfast where the Warehouse agents lived, being written off of the series in Season 4.

Peter Coyote on The Disappearance, His Complex Character, and His Long Career
It takes a special acting project to get Peter Coyote to leave his home in California, located about one and a half hours north of San Francisco.

“I'm quasi-retired,” said Coyote, 77, in a recent phone interview with TV Fanatic. “I have a pension from my union, and I don't have to work if I don't want to. Unless a project is compelling, I'm just not going to do it because I'd rather be home.”

Coyote's first TV role since a 2015 episode of Blue Bloods is on The Disappearance, a six-hour miniseries that debuts at 10/9c Tuesday, July 9, on Wgn America.

The series' titular incident is the disappearance on Anthony (played by Michael Riendeau), a precocious, curious boy who vanishes without a trace on his 10th birthday.

Coyote plays Henry Sullivan, Anthony's grandfather. Rounding out the cast are Aden Young (Rectify) as Anthony's father Luke, Camille Sullivan as Anthony's mother Helen,...

Zoo Season 2 Episode 5 Review: The Moon and the Star
They really did it.

Things were a little bit confusing surrounding the promotion of Zoo Season 2 Episode 4. The official trailer said something like, "One of these people won't make it to the end of the hour," and proceeded to show shots including the main characters, as well as that wooded fiasco with the money thugs.

So when the money thugs wound up bear, wolf and tiger chow (or something) and Chloe's life was hanging in the balance when the credits rolled, Chloe could have been safe.

No such luck.

At the beginning of Zoo Season 2 Episode 5, Chloe barely had time to mutter the words Caraquet and courier (if we learned what the latter means by now, well, I was too damned involved to hear it) before drifting away as a heartbroken Jackson cried above her.

What The Hell?

Poor Jackson. They had that one sweet, free moment of kissing before...

‘Last Stop’ DVD Review (101 Films)

Ten people arrive at a secluded mountain resort to find it completely deserted. With no gas for the return trip, the visitors are forced to stay and investigate the mystery surrounding the abandoned lodge. As their friends start disappearing for no apparent reason, tensions grow as the survivors try to figure out what is gong on, without disappearing themselves.

If there is one thing I have learned from watching horror films over the years, is that going to a secluded lodge which is ‘miles from anywhere’ may seem like a fantastic idea but it Never is. If you are low on fuel by the time you get there, you might as well just lie down on the floor and wait for the inevitable.

[Tiff Review] Closet Monster
Writer/director Stephen Dunn’s feature debut Closet Monster cares little about convention to tell the story of Oscar Madly (Connor Jessup) growing up with a psychological revulsion to his sexual urges, all thanks to an extremely disturbing event witnessed as a child. This prologue glimpse at his youth (played by Jack Fulton) is a mash-up of tough coming-of-age-dramatics and a dark-edged imaginative whimsy that intrigues to draw you closer. It will be divisive with an idyllic world’s caring father (Aaron Abrams‘ Peter) “pushing” dreams into his son’s head via a balloon, a talking hamster named Buffy (voiced by Isabella Rossellini), and the horrific teenage assault of a homosexual with a piece of rebar in a cemetery. But this tumultuous roller coaster is worth you sticking around.

The tone takes some getting used to because the fairy tale sheen has you wondering about the film’s goals. To...

Closet Monster | 2015 Tiff Review
Epistemology of the Closet: Dunn’s Impressive Debut a Pronounced Portrait of Agitated Angst

Notable short filmmaker Stephen Dunn (Pop-up Porno, 2015) makes an impressive feature debut with Closet Monster, a film easily classified as a coming-of-age/coming-out drama but augmented by a masterful sense of tone and visual authority. As ambient as a thriller but without the frills of genre as metaphor, you’d be hard pressed to recall a recent cinematic endeavor that so vividly and compellingly relates the modern queer teen’s terrified angst so effectively. Grappling with familiar yet nevertheless pertinent issues in regards to the heteronormative machinations Lgbt youth struggle to navigate, the Canadian helmer unveils an original and moody psychological portrait of agonized adolescence.

Oscar (Connor Jessup) is an aspiring special effects make-up artist finishing up his last year of high school in small town Newfoundland. Hanging out with his friend Gemma (Sofia Banzhof), who...

Writer/Director Kimberly Levin Talks Runoff
We got the chance to speak with Runoff Writer/Director Kimberly Levin, who explains some of Runoff's taut formal elements and untangles the creative ties between her transition from Biochemist to theater director, and now filmmaker.

"...I can say without hesitation that if you want to be able to say you were there when a great American filmmaker's career kicked off, you need to see "Runoff."

-Matt Zoller Seitz (RogerEbert.com)

Fortunately for me, I can say I was there at the advent. I was struck by this debut. It came out of left field and seemed too dense and shrewd in form to be cultivated by fresh talent. Runoff is a febrile farmland drama shot on location in Kentucky (though its rustic world building suggests any rural landscape). It stars Joanne Kelly as Betty, a female character a billion times more empowering than any scantily-clad female super-hero...

Don't Blink - But Ask Questions: A Movie Review

These are some of the plot elements that repeat in indie horror films. Thankfully, first time director Travis Oates offers a little bit of mystery, in Don't Blink. This time, ten friends find themselves dealing with an invisible force. This entity likes to torment the characters, while making some disappear. Oates' story offers a lot of mystery. Who is the force? And, where are the characters disappearing to? Only one of these questions can be answered; the rest is up to the viewer. Though often slow and slightly drawn out, Don't Blink brings a lot...

Travis Oates at an event for Winnie the Pooh (2011)
Writer: Travis Oates

Director: Travis Oates

Starring: Mena Suvari, Brian Austin Green, Zack Ward, Joanne Kelly, Fiona Gubelmann, David de Latour, Leif Gantvoort, Curtiss Frisle, Emelie O’Hara, Samantha Jacober

Release date: Today (September 19th) on VOD and in select theaters

Production Company: Vertical Entertainment

Don’T Blink is proof that a movie does not have to appear particularly revolutionary or shocking to be effective. It is a clever study in concept—one that does not spoon-feed us answers, but would rather examine what happens when said concept is applied to a group of young people who want answers as badly as we do. Do they get them? Luckily, that’s not really the point.

One of my major issues with a lot of independent horror films is that their attempts at character development often end up as overwrought confessionals that do nothing to endear me to the people involved.

Laff Review: 'Winter’s Bone' on a Farm, 'Runoff' Marks a Strong Debut For Writer-Director Kimberly Levin
Tom Bower, Neal Huff, Darlene Hunt, Joanne Kelly, Kivlighan de Montebello, Rashel Bestard, Brad Koed, Jennifer Graham, Drew Cash, Thomas Dunbar, and Brennan James Callan in Runoff (2014)
A beautifully composed tale of ugly decisions, writer-director Kimberly Levin's debut feature "Runoff" takes place in the middle of America, as the Freeman family are -- from within and without -- slowly attacked by the merciless margins of modern agriculture, where small operators can't fight big business. Centered mostly on Betty Freeman (Joanne Kelly), a wife and mother who doesn't yet know how both bad business and bad medical news hang heavy on her farm-supply salesman husband Frank (Neal Huff) at the outset of the film, "Runoff" flows downstream and builds no small amount of power up as Betty is increasingly driven to desperate ends. Edited by writer-director Levin, "Runoff" is the kind of film that finds power and pleasure in silence; many of its best scenes come in careful, long, quiet scenes of revelation or desperation. Cinematographer Hermes Marko is a deft collaborator, balancing the film's shifts between...
