The comedy-drama series, which stars Pete Davidson, Edie Falco, and Joe Pesci, is a heightened and fictionalized version of Davidson's life, ala Curb Your Enthusiasm. The first season follows Davidson as he attempts to work through his family's unique dynamics, the complexities of fame, and how to form meaningful relationships.

Season one features guest appearances by La La Anthony, Carly Aquilino, Colson Baker (Machine Gun Kelly), Josh Bitton, Preston Brodrick, Steve Buscemi, Bobby Cannavale, Kevin Corrigan, Nadia Dajani, Charlamagne Tha God, Charlie Day, Philip Ettinger, Derek Gaines, Brad Garrett, Al Gore, Paul Walter Hauser, Lynne Koplitz, Loulou Lazarus, Sunita Mani, John Mulaney,...

Image
“Bupkis” Season 2 is bupkis. Star Pete Davidson has confirmed that he has opted not to continue with his semi-autobiographical Peacock comedy, which had previously been renewed for a second season.

“I’ve always seen Bupkis as a window into my life, since it is so personal and about my struggles and family,” Davidson said ina. statement. “After nearly a decade of my personal life being in the media I wanted a chance to tell my story my way. Of all the work I’ve ever done, Bupkis is by far what I’m most proud of. I am so grateful to Lorne Michaels and Broadway Video, Peacock, Universal Television and the amazing cast and writers for helping me create something honest, funny and heartfelt. I do also feel that this part of my life is finished. I’m very excited for this next chapter and for you guys to see the work.

Bupkis: Everything You Need To Know
Image
In what feels like a welcome reprieve, Peacock dropped the entire season of Pete Davidson's pseudo-autobiographical series Bupkis in a nicely binge-able package, like the good old days of streaming originals. The show is both not what one thought it would be and exactly what one thought it would be at the same time. As good as the series may be, the fact that it shares quite a few similarities to other, recent series may dull the audience's reaction.

The series was announced in March 2022 with Pete Davidson developing it alongside Judah Miller, who executive produced Davidson's movie The King of Staten Island and has written for Crashing, another pseudo-autobiographical show based on the life of a stand-up comedian (Pete Homes). SNL writer Dave Sirius is the other co-creator. He also co-wrote The King of Staten Island alongside Davidson and Judd Apatow. It's a strong team, and they...

‘Bupkis’ Series Preview: The Cast, The Plot, and Air Dates
Image
Can you imagine what it’s like to be Pete Davidson, a man whose dating life is the source of dozens of memes and hundreds of gossip pieces? Experience the life of the former SNL star in Peacock’s new eight-episode half-hour comedy, Bupkis. No imagination is required.

Peacock describes the new show as raw and semi-autobiographical. Premiering on Thursday, May 4, 2023, Bupkis follows Pete Davidson as he navigates his family’s unconventional dynamics and learns to find genuine connections amidst the challenges of fame. Supported by big-name guest stars, Bupkis straddles reality and absurdity to best represent what it is to be Pete Davidson (according to Peacock).

Pete Davidson leads the cast as himself, four-time Emmy Award winner Edie Falco plays his mom, and Oscar winner Joe Pesci (GoodFellas) stars as Pete’s grandfather.

Louis C.K. Premieres ‘Fourth of July,’ First Film Since Sexual Misconduct Allegations: ‘We’re Back, Baby!’
Image
Louis C.K. and the cast of his new film “Fourth of July” gathered for a panel discussion on Thursday night at the Beacon Theatre in Manhattan. Directed, written and edited by C.K., the indie drama stars co-writer Joe List, who quipped about C.K.’s fall from grace after the moderator praised C.K. for being able to disappear into his role.

“Well, Louis has disappeared before,” List said, referring to allegations of sexual misconduct brought against C.K. in 2017.

“We’re back, baby!” C.K. responded, prompting the crowd to burst into applause and laughter.

C.K. took a step back from Hollywood after five women came forward with allegations that he undressed and masturbated in front of them. However, C.K. has been trying to revive his career since 2018, embarking on a sold-out comedy tour and releasing two specials, one of which earned him a Grammy for best comedy album this year.

‘The King of Staten Island’ Blu-ray Review
Image
Stars: Pete Davidson, Bel Powley, Ricky Velez, Lou Wilson, Moises Arias, Carly Aquilino, Marisa Tomei, Maude Apatow, Pauline Chalamet, Lynne Koplitz, Joseph Paul Kennedy, Kevin Corrigan, Bill Burr, Steve Buscemi | Written by Judd Apatow, Pete Davidson, Dave Sirus | Directed by Judd Apatow

In many ways films like this are the hardest to write about, The King of Staten Island lacks in any narrative structure and struggles to find its purpose. The narrative causes the film to feel long and the script has a lethargic feel to it. Yet, despite this, the characters come on to the screen fully formed, each and everyone feeling like real people, unique in their own individual way. It’s the charm and likability of these characters that drives the film forward and keeps you engaged for the entire runtime.

Fran Drescher
Fran Drescher on Performing Stand-Up Comedy For the First Time
Fran Drescher
At the age of 61, Fran Drescher has started doing stand-up — and she doesn’t want to do it like a man.

“When I do my half hour,” she told IndieWire, “I want to go deeper into life experience, and find the humor in the darkness and despair. I think there’s a shift in female comics, and the way they tell stories, that include things they’re passionate about — whether it’s sexual orientation or health or relationships. I think as women, we’re starting to develop our own style and not just be like the men. That’s what I aspire to be.”

Drescher’s decades-long resume contains many fascinating roles — writer, actress, sitcom star, diplomat, activist — and now, stand-up comedian, a pursuit that’s technically new to her.

So she’s looking to the modern state of the format, as pioneered by comics like Hannah Gatsby. A woman...

TVLine Items: Super Bowl Swap, Fallon-Inspired Music Show and More
The Super Bowl will be back on CBS sooner rather than later: The Eye network and NBC have swapped broadcast years for the big game, the New York Post reports.

CBS — which hosted the Super Bowl earlier this February — will move up a year and air the sporting event in 2021, while NBC falls back to 2022. (Fox remains the 2020 broadcaster.)

The move is a win-win for both nets: NBC can now pair the game with the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics as a combo advertising package. Meanwhile, CBS avoids having to compete with the Olympics during its next Super Bowl.

'Office' Star Talks Ladies-Only Comedy Show
Carol Leifer
"The idea was comedy for women, but it's not like a 'Cathy' cartoon; it's way hipper."

That's how "The Office" star Kate Flannery describes her new all-female stand-up show, "StandUp In Stilettos," coming to the TV Guide Network this month. The show's 12 episodes will feature 36 women, three per episode, performing comedy in front of a live audience. Flannery hopes the easily digestible segments will expose the Guide's browsers to quality comedy of the female variety.

"It's a nice intro for people who might be closed-minded about women in comedy," Flannery said in an interview. "I cannot believe that in all the years that there have been female stand-ups, there has never been a show just for them. The girls can play just as hard as the boys, so I think it's long overdue."

And based on the first (and as of writing, only) comment on the show's preview video on YouTube,...

Life Goal: Get High With Joan Rivers
A little story about me: I don’t smoke. Like, anything. I used to smoke cigarettes in college, until I quit, and all the little hairs in my lungs started making newborn baby sounds, and that was that. As far as smoking anything else is concerned (I’m choosing my words carefully, because I’m at “work”), I did a few times in college, until that one fateful night, where my heart felt like it was going to explode and my throat closed up and everyone in the baseball frat watched as paramedics came and wheeled me off to the ER. That… let me think… no, that was pretty much that last time I’ve ever done that. But I’m starting to reconsider this decision after last night’s episode of Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best on WEtv, starring my ultimate life idol and funniest woman ever Joan Rivers and her daughter,...

DVD Review: ‘Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work’ Should Have Been a Contender
Chicago – Anyone who considers Joan Rivers to be little more than a plasticized sight gag is advised to check out Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg’s wonderful documentary, a sorely deserving (and unfairly snubbed) contender in this year’s Oscar race. The film invites viewers to look under Rivers’ immobile Botox mask and observe the angry, brilliant, brutally honest and fiercely insecure woman hiding beneath.

Though her dreams of becoming a serious actress have remained unrealized, Rivers’ trailblazing comedy paved the way for cutting-edge female comics from Kathy Griffin to Sarah Silverman. It becomes quickly apparent that Rivers’ deformed features are the result of a desperate spirit that refuses to grow old, retire and be labeled a legend. She’s gradually become the punch-line of her own jokes about age, beauty, identity and especially plastic surgery. Some time after her husband Edgar committed suicide, Rivers joked that she was the reason he did it,...

Cynthia Garrett, Jules Asner, Kimora Lee Simmons, and Lynne Koplitz in Life & Style (2004)
'Croce' said moving out; 'Life' is short
Cynthia Garrett, Jules Asner, Kimora Lee Simmons, and Lynne Koplitz in Life & Style (2004)
It looks like a couple of freshman syndicated shows won't be back in the fall. Sources said that Sony Pictures Television's talk show Life & Style and reality/talk show Pat Croce: Moving In won't be returning for a second season. Production has already wrapped on both first-run strips, sources said. It's likely that a mix of original episodes and repeats of both shows will continue to air through September. SPT declined comment Monday. Life and Pat Croce have had little traction since their September debuts. Season to date, Life is averaging a 0.5 household rating, and Pat Croce is averaging a 0.7. Life is hosted by Jules Asner, Cynthia Garrett, Lynne Koplitz and Kimora Lee Simmons, and Pat Croce features the motivational speaker and former president and owner of the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers "moving in" with families to help them deal with life issues and problems. The news follows on the heels of another freshman show's demise: NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution's talker The Jane Pauley Show, which is ending production by mid-April.

SPT pushing 'Life & Style' to women
Jules Asner
"Life & Style," a new syndicated one-hour daytime strip from Sony Pictures Television, is being geared aggressively to women viewers for its planned fall 2004 launch. The show will feature TV and fashion personalities Jules Asner, Cynthia Garrett, Lynne Koplitz and Kimora Lee Simmons as co-hosts. Russ Krasnoff, president of programming and production at SPT, said the strip will look to identify trends and "the hottest topics in pop culture, relationships, fashion and celebrity news as well as telling compelling, edgy stories about important issues from a modern, honest point of view."...
