His father's uncle was Pete DeFeo, a caporegime in the Genovese crime family.

Son of Ronald DeFeo Sr. and Louise DeFeo.

Was shot with a 35 caliber lever action Marlin 336C rifle by his older brother, Ronald DeFeo. He and his brother, Marc DeFeo, fired at close range (less than 2 inches). The bullets penetrated the heart, lungs, diaphragm and liver of each victim. The spinal cord of John is severely affected.

Grandson of Rocco DeFeo, Antoinette "Nettie" DeFeo, Michael Brigante, Sr. and Angelina M. Brigante.

John Matthew (9) b. October 24th, 1965 in Brooklyn, N.Y. (King's County) tragically lost his life during the early hours of November 13th, 1974 along with his parents Ronald DeFeo Sr. (43) Louise DeFeo (42) and his sisters Dawn DeFeo (18) and Allison DeFeo (13).
