Disney+ may have made a huge mistake shelving Nautilus. The 10-part reimagining of Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas recently premiered on AMC to major viewership success.

According to Deadline, the premiere episode of Nautilus, "Anahata," attracted 2.6 million viewers on linear alone, per Nielsen live+3 data. This makes it AMC's biggest premiere night audience since The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, which premiered just over one year ago on Feb. 25, 2024. Nautilus' impressive viewership results come a week after FlixPatrol reported on how the series had also found success on AMC+, beating out hits like The Walking Dead: Dead City and Hell Motel on the streaming chart.

At the end of the previous episode, the Nautilus was trapped by a giant squid near the ocean floor. It prevents them from surfacing by wrapping its body around the ship and holding fast with tentacle suckers. As it squeezes, the ship's metal hull groans and parts fall off.

Nemo, reckless as ever, puts on a diving suit and exits to try and scare it off. His spear gun is no match for it. However, mama whale shows up and rescues the Nautilus. Perhaps the whales are going to be a recurring thing.

Meanwhile, the Nautilus is still being pursued by the dreadnought, but it escapes by firing a torpedo filled that makes a lot of noise. Both ships have men monitoring ocean sounds. The dreadnought officer picks up on the torpedo, so they give chase. Meanwhile, the Nautilus fires its engines and flees. Crawley is disgusted at falling for the ruse.

One of the most underrated fantasy series of the past year is officially a streaming sensation.

Per Flix Patrol, 2024's Nautilus has risen to the very top of the streaming chart for AMC+ in the United States for July 1. One great thing about the streaming era is that if one platform drops the ball or decides to cut its losses, another often steps in to pick up where others left off. The nautical fantasy series Nautilus, a ten-episode Paramount production originally intended for Disney+ in 2023, has found a new home and will premiere on AMC and AMC+ on June 29th.
