Disney+ may have made a huge mistake shelving Nautilus. The 10-part reimagining of Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas recently premiered on AMC to major viewership success.
According to Deadline, the premiere episode of Nautilus, "Anahata," attracted 2.6 million viewers on linear alone, per Nielsen live+3 data. This makes it AMC's biggest premiere night audience since The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, which premiered just over one year ago on Feb. 25, 2024. Nautilus' impressive viewership results come a week after FlixPatrol reported on how the series had also found success on AMC+, beating out hits like The Walking Dead: Dead City and Hell Motel on the streaming chart.

At the end of the previous episode, the Nautilus was trapped by a giant squid near the ocean floor. It prevents them from surfacing by wrapping its body around the ship and holding fast with tentacle suckers. As it squeezes, the ship's metal hull groans and parts fall off.
Nemo, reckless as ever, puts on a diving suit and exits to try and scare it off. His spear gun is no match for it. However, mama whale shows up and rescues the Nautilus. Perhaps the whales are going to be a recurring thing.
Meanwhile, the Nautilus is still being pursued by the dreadnought, but it escapes by firing a torpedo filled that makes a lot of noise. Both ships have men monitoring ocean sounds. The dreadnought officer picks up on the torpedo, so they give chase. Meanwhile, the Nautilus fires its engines and flees. Crawley is disgusted at falling for the ruse.

One of the most underrated fantasy series of the past year is officially a streaming sensation.
Per Flix Patrol, 2024's Nautilus has risen to the very top of the streaming chart for AMC+ in the United States for July 1. Nautilus beat out some serious competition, including Ash, Hell Motel, and The Walking Dead: Dead City, which currently hold the fourth, third, and second spots on the chart, respectively.
Created by James Dormer and produced by Moonriver TV and Seven Stories, Nautilus is based on Jules Verne's classic novel, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas. The series, set in 1857, follows Shazad Latif's Captain Nemo as he steals away with the East India Mercantile Company's secret submarine, the Nautilus, and sets out on an unforgettable adventure across (and under) the high seas. One great thing about the streaming era is that if one platform drops the ball or decides to cut its losses, another often steps in to pick up where others left off. That’s precisely what happened with the new series Nautilus. Developed initially for Disney+, reportedly at a cost of over $300 million, the platform ultimately scrapped the project.
Fortunately, AMC+ acquired U.S. distribution rights, while Prime Video picked it up for release in the United Kingdom. Considering the high price tag with no big-name stars attached, was Nautilus worth it? The result is a souped-up, lavish series like you used to see with Lucy Lawless or Daniel Goddard, syndicated internationally, and pre-streaming

The nautical fantasy series Nautilus, a ten-episode Paramount production originally intended for Disney+ in 2023, has found a new home and will premiere on AMC and AMC+ on June 29th.
The fact that all episodes of the ambitious and visually rich series had already wrapped filming made Disney+'s subsequent decision all the more noteworthy when they opted not to release it.
This move, reportedly driven by evolving strategic objectives within the streaming service and a directive to reduce overall expenditures, had a ripple effect across several projects in development or completion.
Alongside Nautilus, this change in direction also resulted in the unexpected vaulting of the Willow series and the cancelation of The Spiderwick Chronicles, leaving creators and audiences alike surprised and disappointed by the platform's change of course.

The mere mention of Grendel the classic monster from the Old English, Anglo-Saxon era epic poem, Beowulf is enough to unlock a portal buried deep within the brain of every former English student. Since its introduction to the oral tradition, the creature at the heart of Robert D. Krzykowski's cinematic take has captivated the hearts and minds of humans for thousands of years.
So it's no surprise that new details (via The Hollywood Reporter) alongside images from a Collider exclusive reveal that Grendel, as played by Jeff Bridges, is going in a deeply philosophical and darkly fantastical direction; a perfect fit for the Jim Henson Creature Shop's interpretation based on the 1971 John Gardner novel.

The word “epic” gets thrown around a lot, but in the case of Grendel, a live-action retelling of John Gardner’s 1971 novel of the same name, it’s not hyperbole. Writer-director Robert D. Krzykowski adapted the book, a modern classic that retells the old English epic poem Beowulf from the perspective of the monster Grendel, who terrorizes the kingdom of Hrothgar of the Danes for 12 years.
The cast is epic, too, with Jeff Bridges as the titular monster, Bryan Cranston as King Hrothgar, Dave Bautista as the warrior Beowulf and T Bone Burnett as the blind, harp-playing Shaper.
Jim Henson’s Creature Shop is doing the creature work and design. Filming is set to begin in Europe next year.
Palisades Park Pictures is handling international sales; CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group co-rep rights for North America.

One Piece has some of the most likable characters in anime. Therefore, it should be no surprise that some antagonists are likable. Several marines, like Garp and Saul, are some of the most charismatic characters in the shonen. These special marines prove that the world of One Piece isn't simply black and white.
The marines are only antagonists because the protagonists are pirates. Many of these Marines mean well and have a strong sense of justice. However, at its core, the Marines are controlled by the World Government, which is a corrupt and evil organization. Yet, several Marines are still extremely likable despite their occupation.
