Having played in theaters worldwide for less than a week, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is passing the $250 million milestone as we speak. The movie had a solid debut at the box office and has already overtaken the entire lifetime haul of a mostly forgotten superhero film from 2011. Released during the first "phase" of the Marvel Cinematic Universe — this was after Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger, but before The Avengers — The Green Hornet continued star-producer Seth Rogen's collaboration with Sony, but he didn't exactly have a great time working on the project.
With $242 million at the global box office so far, First Steps has passed the $230 million lifetime haul of The Green Hornet. Directed by Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind's Michel Gondry, who could be considered an odd choice for a big-budget superhero movie, The Green Hornet was based on the superhero character popularized...

Martial arts movies have been a staple genre of Western culture since the 1970s. Pioneers like Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan set the standard for epic, fast-paced fight scenes and brought them to the silver screen. Films like Robert Clouse's Enter The Dragon and Yuen Woo-Ping's Drunken Master helped create the world of martial arts cinema that is famous today.
The genre hasn't slowed down since its creation, with many upcoming projects like the long-awaited Karate Kid reboot set to hit screens in 2025. However, certain martial arts movies take themselves more seriously than others. While some plots are centered around character development and realistic fighting applications, other films go the extra mile and focus on downright absurd scenarios. These campy martial arts movies set aside realism and include fighting that is truly ridiculous, but altogether extremely fun to watch.

Lizzy Caplan, who played Lula May in Now You See Me 2, is notably missing from Now You See Me 3's cast lineup. Despite Isla Fisher's return, there's room for both female Horsemen in the main cast - it's disappointing to see Caplan absent. Ruben Fleischer will direct Now You See Me 3, featuring most of the original cast from the previous films.
With Now You See Me 3 officially in the works, the news that a certain cast member might not be returning is nothing short of frustrating. Following years of speculation, Now You See Me 3 was recently confirmed to be in the early stages of development. While most of the main cast from the previous two installments are set to return, alongside a handful of new Now You See Me cast members, there is one former Now You See Me star who's notably and annoyingly missing from the line-up.

Seth Rogen got brutally honest about film critics during a discussion about mental health and self-doubt on the “Diary of a CEO” podcast. The comedian told host Steven Bartlett that negative reviews from critics “hurt everyone very much.”
“I think if most critics knew how much it hurts the people that made the things that they are writing about, they would second guess the way they write these things,” Rogen said. “It’s devastating. I know people who have never recovered from it honestly – a year, decades of being hurt by [film reviews]. It’s very personal…It is devastating when you are being institutionally told that your personal expression was bad, and that’s something that people carry with them, literally, their entire lives and I get why. It fucking sucks.”
Bartlett brought up Michel Gondry’s 2011 superhero comedy “The Green Hornet,” which starred Rogen as the eponymous hero opposite Jay Chou and Cameron Diaz.

Acting and directing were not on Jay Chou’s mind when he first began his music career nearly two decades ago. But over the years, he has accumulated several memorable film and TV roles locally in Asia and in Hollywood. And, between music ventures, he has sat in the film director’s chair.
“I was born to believe in myself and complete my work on my own,” Chou said in a 2012 interview, discussing his work in acting and directing. “Once I understand how something works, I like to do it myself.”
His screen career began in 2005, when Chou made his film debut with the release of car-racing action feature “Initial D,” an on-screen adaptation of the Japanese manga of the same name, directed by Hong Kong’s Andrew Lau and Alan Mak (“Infernal Affairs”).

But they run into an ambush on the way, and his girlfriend, also a team member, is killed and the scientist is kidnapped. Worse of all, he ends up with a bullet lodged in his head. The Green Hornet is one of our longest-running, most ubiquitous superheroes in culture. Originating in 1930s radio plays, the masked vigilante and his phenomenal partner Kato has since been in film serials, a hit TV show that gave Bruce Lee an American breakthrough, and most recently, a 2011 big-budget movie starring Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Cameron Diaz, and Christoph Waltz. Now, the well-known filmmaker/orator of geek-friendly projects Kevin Smith will be revving up Black Beauty and taking another crack at it. Per Deadline, Smith is developing an animated series out of The Green Hornet. Smith …...

Kevin Smith is taking another crack at “The Green Hornet.”
Smith, who already has a “Green Hornet” comic book series based on the un-produced feature screenplay he was hired to write by Miramax under his belt, is developing an animated version of “Green Hornet” with kids content producer WildBrain.
The new series will be targeted at a family audience, while retaining many elements from the comics, including the titular character’s high-tech car, the “Black Beauty.”
Set in contemporary times, the new series will follow the adventures of a re-imagined Green Hornet and Kato – now the grown son of the original Green Hornet and the daughter of the original Kato – as they partner to battle crime in Century City.
“It’s an honor to escort the legendary Green Hornet and Kato into their very own animated series for the first time in the rich history of these iconic pop culture characters!

Dust off your fedora and domino mask and make sure there’s gas in the Black Beauty, because the Green Hornet and Kato will once again return to the screen. Despite the fact that the masked vigilantes pre-date Batman and Robin by several years (having first leaped into action on The Green Hornet radio show in 1936), these legendary pop culture figures haven’t had much luck on the screen recently. That’s about to change with Amasia Entertainment partnering with Universal Pictures for The Green Hornet and Kato, the latest attempt to update the pair for a new generation. When it comes to superhero movies, the McU and Dceu are at the top of the pile. After that comes stuff like Fox’s X-Men films, Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy and so on. Then you have the largely forgotten curiosities. These are superhero adventures that don’t draw from DC or Marvel and generally don’t do as well at the box office. And right now, for some weird reason, one of them’s cleaning up on Netflix. I’m talking about 2011’s The Green Hornet.

A classic superhero is getting another shot at the big screen. It's been revealed that Universal Pictures has partnered with Amasia Entertainment for a Green Hornet reboot titled The Green Hornet and Kato. Michael Helfant and Bradley Gallo, who founded Amasia, landed the movie rights to the franchise in a competitive bidding war earlier this year. Now, Universal is stepping in to help make the reboot a reality.
Universal Pictures has optioned the rights to the characters, with The Green Hornet and Kato already in development. In something of a surprise announcement, a reboot of Green Hornet is in the works. When last we heard, Paramount Pictures was developing a new take on the classic hero. The studio let the rights expire and that version is dead in the water. Now, Amasia Entertainment has won the movie rights to the franchise and they intend to develop a new big screen version of the character.
Amasia Entertainment is headed up by Michael Helfant and Bradley Gallo. Helfant, it's worth noting, is the former president of Marvel Studios, a job which Kevin Feige famously held for sometime before recently being promoted to chief creative officer at Marvel. Now, Helfant will be trying to make his own superhero franchise outside the realm of the big two, Marvel and DC. Helfant had this to say about it in a statement.

In a superhero-dominated film culture ruled by Marvel and DC, one company is banking on an old, familiar name to shake up the duopoly. Indie film/TV production company Amasia Entertainment announced Wednesday that it secured motion picture rights to classic character The Green Hornet.
First created in 1938 by George W Trendle and later a staple in radio serials, the character spawned multiple big-screen adaptations in the early ’40s before surfacing as a cult hit TV series. In one of his early American roles, Bruce Lee played the role of Kato, Britt’s trusted partner.

Paramount is in talks with “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage” director D.J. Caruso to take the reins of its movie adaptation of the Nickelodeon horror series “Are You Afraid of the Dark?”
The project was unveiled last year with “It” writer Gary Dauberman hired to write the script. Matt Kaplan is producing along with Dauberman, who’s a co-writer on both “It” movies, and “The Conjuring” and “Annabelle” franchises.
“Are You Afraid of the Dark?” was created by D.J. MacHale and Ned Kandel and ran as an anthology series on Nickelodeon between 1992 and 1996. It followed a group of teenagers who called themselves the Midnight Society and would meet weekly at a secret location in the woods to tell a scary story.
