‘The Handmaid's Tale’ Star Reveals Why She Will "Absolutely Not" Return for The Spin-Off
Image
While The Handmaid's Tale’s upcoming spin-off, The Testaments, is still a work in progress with principal photography having wrapped earlier this month, one of the show’s original stars has made a decision about her future in the franchise. That star is Samira Wiley, who is best known as Moira Strand, June's best friend since college, and who was still alive at the end of the sixth and final season of the dystopian series. Wiley has made up her mind that she will “absolutely not” return in the new sequel, and she ensured to explain her reasons while promoting her latest show, Atomic.

Speaking in an interview recently, the...

When most people think of successful fantasy TV shows, HBO and Prime Video are probably the first two networks that come to mind. So, let’s get the ranking of the best Netflix fantasy shows started with Shadow and Bone.

6. Shadow and Bone Shadow and Bone. (L to R) Archie Renaux as Malyen Oretsev, Jessie Mei Li...

A 'Harry Potter' Actor's Stephen King Horror Remake Is an Instant Streaming Hit
Image
Stephen King fans love a good page-to-screen adaptation. The horror genre has been greatly enriched with several young and acclaimed filmmakers adapting his work. Among some of his iconic works, Pet Sematary, directed by Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer, keeps on giving, whether you like the changes in the story or not, and its streaming success is a testament to it.

As the spooky season approaches, the fans are turning to see the 2019 film as it has climbed the charts of Tubi and is currently sitting at #7. The movie made a space for itself on the charts in a matter of days as it was added to the streamer earlier this month. Other movies on the chart include another King adaptation, Dreamcatcher, Titanic, Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction, and more. Pet Sematary adapted by Jeff Buhler, follows the Creed family, who relocate from Boston to rural Maine. When they discover a...

6 Years Later, John Lithgow's Hated Stephen King Movie Is Exploding on the Streaming Charts
Image
Stephen King is a prolific writer whose many works have received adaptations both as TV shows and as films. Some of his most popular works have been adapted more than once.

One such example is Pet Sematary. King wrote the novel of the same name in 1983, and it was adapted in 1989, and later in 1992 with the sequel Pet Sematary Two. Three decades after the first film, it received a new adaptation, 2019's Pet Sematary, which received a lot of criticism. Even so, Pet Sematary, which also stars John Lithgow, has now become a massive hit on streaming, FlixPatrol indicates.

The 2019 adaptation of Pet Sematary headed back to Paramount+ on July 1, after a hiatus on the streaming platform. The recent adaptation was distributed by Paramount Pictures. So, its presence on its streaming platform is not surprising, although it often surges on other services, as well.

Pet Sematary appeared in the Top 10 charts recently,...

Jenna Ortega’s 15% Rotten Tomatoes Thriller Is Already Headed to Digital Streaming After Box Office Failure
Image
Following up Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye’s divisive series The Idol, Hurry Up Tomorrow failed to make an impact at the box office. Now the film will make another attempt when it hits streaming on digital platforms starting June 6, per MovieWeb. Just as in The Idol, Hurry Up Tomorrow takes place in the music industry, this time with Tesfaye playing a fictionalized version of himself. The film shares its title with The Weeknd’s recent album, blurring the lines between fiction and reality even further.

The film follows The Weeknd, who is in the midst of a crisis. At one of his concerts, he loses his voice before meeting a fan, Anima (Jenna Ortega), who has more in store for him than he would have originally thought. The film follows the relationship between the two in a psychological drama that also functions as a companion to The Weeknd’s album.

The Testaments: A Fresh Look at Gilead in The Handmaid’s Tale Sequel
Image
Gilead isn’t finished yet. Though The Handmaid’s Tale closed its final chapter on May 27 after a gripping six-season run, its legacy lives on — through the eyes of a new generation.

Hulu’s next installment, The Testaments, is not just a continuation, but a bold reimagination of Margaret Atwood’s dystopia, diving deeper into the cracks of a crumbling empire.

Brief Details About ‘The Testaments’

If The Handmaid’s Tale was June Osborne’s story, The Testaments belong to the daughters — and the formidable Aunt who’s still standing.

“It’s about Mean Girls growing up Gilead,” says showrunner Bruce Miller, giving a stark and biting preview to Entertainment Weekly.

“It really is about what it’s like to be young and full of energy when the country is trying to turn you into something awful… When all of a sudden they’ve been telling you, ‘you are wonderful, you’re perfect,...

How ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ series finale sets up ‘The Testaments’
Image
With the Emmy-winning adaptation of Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid’s Tale wrapping up the six-season arc of the revolutionary June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss), fans can finally celebrate Boston’s liberation from the authoritarian clutches of Gilead. It’s been a harrowing journey for June since the show’s 2017 premiere, and she can't entirely celebrate with her daughter Hannah still behind Gilead’s borders. With Hulu hard at work on The Testaments, an adaptation of Atwood’s 2019 sequel novel set years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale, audiences will get a greater degree of resolution over the future of Hannah and the rest of the women under Gilead’s thumb. Here's how The Handmaid’s Tale’s Season 6 resolution sets up for that highly anticipated follow-up.

How did The Handmaid's Tale end?

At the conclusion of The Handmaid’s Tale, the resistance group Mayday (in collaboration with the U.S. military) successfully...

'The Handmaid's Tale' EP Reveals Which Character Almost Met a Tragic Fate in the Series Finale
Image
After 6 seasons of politically-charged, gut-wrenching drama, The Handmaid's Tale has come to an end. With a hugely impactful 66 episodes needing to be wrapped up, Bruce Miller and co nailed the landing with an emotionally moving final outing that saw, among many other plot threads that included the shocking return of Alexis Bledel's Emily, the story of Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) and June (Elisabeth Moss) come to a quiet, affecting end.

After a long-standing bitterness amidst unfortunate circumstances left the two as enemies, the finale tied up their story in the most poignant way possible. With Serena's redemption now complete, one more apology to June was met with the one thing she could never have expected: forgiveness. Now tied by a shared experience and the indescribable bond of motherhood, this could well be the lasting memory of The Handmaid's Tale's final episode for millions of fans who had long been invested in their ever-twisting relationship.

The Weeknd Reflects On ‘The Idol’s Negative Reviews, Admits It “Could Have Been Great” But There Were “Too Many Cooks In The Kitchen”

As his debut feature bows in theaters and to largely negative reviews by critics, The Weeknd (née Abel Tesfaye) is admitting he understands the lampooning of HBO’s The Idol, the spiritual forbearer to the Trey Edward Shults-helmed Hurry Up Tomorrow that also explores musical mythologizing.

In a new profile by The Guardian, Tesfaye acknowledged that critics’ takes on The Idol “makes a lot of sense.”

Tesfaye maintained that issues plagued the series long before Euphoria creator Sam Levinson took over as...

The Weeknd’s ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ Debuts With Lower Rotten Tomatoes Score than ‘The Idol’
Image
Clips of The Weeknd's performance in Hurry Up Tomorrow are being widely shared on social media, prompting viewers to remark on the quality of acting on display. The movie itself has alternately been described as a "fever dream" and a "vanity project." Directed by Trey Edward Shults, the musical thriller is a companion piece to The Weeknd's sixth studio album of the same name; both projects coincide with his attempts to leave behind his public persona and adopt his given name, Abel Tesfaye. He did something similar not too long ago, with the doomed HBO series The Idol. The show opened to major controversy and was panned upon release. Remarkably, Hurry Up Tomorrow is earning poorer reviews.

It debuted with a 0% rating on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes; the rating has since increased to 16%, which is lower than the 19% that The Idol is currently sitting on. The movie reunites...

The Weeknd Wanted To “Focus On Being An Actor” With ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’: “A Smoother Process”
Image
Following reports of behind-the-scenes drama with his role as star and co-creator of HBO‘s The Idol, Abel ‘The Weeknd’ Tesfaye took a less hands-on approach to his latest project.

The Hurry Up Tomorrow star praised director Trey Edward Shults for taking the helm and letting him “just focus on performing” in the upcoming musical psychological thriller, which premieres Friday in theaters.

“I wanted to do my job as an actor,” he told Fader. “So, make my piece with the idea, with the script, give whatever notes I have to give, but essentially it being [Shults’] film, where I give him the material, he makes the movie he wants to make, and I get to just focus on being an actor and not give a f— about what’s going on behind the scenes.”

Tesfaye added, “He made it easy for me. I always make this joke; Trey’s like a cat when he directs.

‘The Handmaid's Tale’ Final Season Secures Second Highest Rotten Tomatoes Score of Entire Series
Image
Back in 2017, Hulu introduced to the world the series adaptation of Margaret Atwood's best-selling 1985 novel The Handmaid's Tale. Similar to the novel, the series centers on the totalitarian government of Gilead and its cruel method of denying women their basic human rights. At the heart of the series is June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss), who uses every bit of her limited power to challenge the oppressive regime. Eight years in, the dystopian series is now bound to say goodbye, and it still hasn't run out of steam. The sixth and final season of The Handmaid's Tale has officially earned a Certified Fresh rating on the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, accumulating a total of 92% critics' score. It is now the series' second-highest-rated season on the site, trailing behind Season 1’s 94%.

While the other seasons received favorable critics' scores on Rotten Tomatoes, only Seasons 1 and 2 have surpassed the 90% mark, with Season...

'An Entirely Different Point Of View:' The Handmaid's Tale EPs Say The Spinoff Will Showcase A New Side of Gilead
Image
The Handmaid’s Tale executive producers Bruce Miller and Warren Littlefield recently explained how Gilead will be portrayed differently in Hulu’s upcoming sequel spinoff The Testaments. Production on the new show began in April 2024, with franchise lead Elisabeth Moss attached as an executive producer.

During a recent interview with Screen Rant, Miller and Littlefield expressed their excitement about The Testaments, introducing a side of Gilead as seen through the eyes of girls who grew up within the totalitarian system. "I think June was at the very bottom of the ladder in Gilead. She was barely considered a woman," Miller said. "But her daughter, Agnes Mackenzie, who's still stuck in Gilead, is at the very top of the order. So, what you realize is that they're incredibly valued by Gilead, but it doesn't matter. Being at the top or being at the bottom is still sh***y for a woman in Gilead.

The Handmaid's Tale sequel series The Testaments is officially a go at Hulu
Image
Next Tuesday, on April 8, Hulu will start airing the sixth and final season of The Handmaid's Tale, its adaptation of Margaret Atwood's 1985 dystopian novel...well, actually, they finished adapting most of Atwood's book a while ago and have been exploring a new story, but the basics are still there: a fertility crisis led to the collapse of the United States as we know it and the rise of an autocratic nation called Gilead, where the few remaining fertile women are used as breeding stock. June (Elisabeth Moss) is one such "handmaid." Recent seasons have focused on her trying to rescue her daughter Hannah — called Agnes in Gilead — from the tyrannical regime.

The Handmaid's Tale will all be over in a few months, but Hulu has no intention of letting one of its most prestigious shows just fade away. It's working on a sequel series called The Testaments, based on...

Amy Seimetz Joins ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Spin-off ‘The Testaments’ as Series Regular
Image
Times may be bleak, but at least we’ll be getting to spend more time in the horrific, not-too-far-off-from-our-own-world Gilead of “The Handmaid’s Tale.” Not only will the show be returning in April for its sixth and final season, but a spin-off series based on author Margaret Atwood’s 2019 sequel, “The Testaments,” is also in the works at Hulu. While Ann Dowd has already been revealed to be reprising her role of Aunt Lydia, joined by new cast members Chase Infiniti, Rowen Blanchard, and Lucy Halliday, IndieWire can exclusively announce that actress/writer/director Amy Seimetz will also be appearing in the show as a series regular.

A source close to the project shared that Seimetz will be playing Paula, step-mother to Agnes, the daughter of June Osborne (Elizabeth Moss) and Luke Bankole (O-t Fagbenle), formerly known as Hannah. In the novel version of “The Testaments,” which is set 15 years after “The Handmaid’s Tale,...

‘Ash’ Review: Flying Lotus’ Pummeling Sci-Fi Freak Out Stars Eiza González and Aaron Paul as Astronauts in Hell
Image
Editor’s Note: This review was originally published during the 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival. “Ash” opens in theaters Friday, March 21.

Usually, when someone says a movie is “all vibes,” they mean it as an insult. But vibes can accomplish some wonderful things: Just ask Alejandro Jodorowsky, Dario Argento, Amy Seimetz, Panos Cosmatos, and now Flying Lotus. Born Steven D. Bingley-Ellison, the musician and record producer claims his place in the pantheon of vibes-based filmmakers with “Ash,” a pummeling psychedelic sci-fi freakout that one doesn’t watch so much as experience.

Don’t let the green mist tinged with white lightning and rotating cosmic orifices fool you, however: Ingesting psychedelic drugs is not recommended before watching this film. Like Brandon Cronenberg’s “Possessor,” “Ash” makes extensive use of cut-ins that violently tear through the frame, jarring the audience with nightmarish imagery that’s disarming under normal circumstances and probably soul-searingly terrifying...

Luis Buñuel’s ‘Él’ Is a Masterclass in Capturing Romantic Paranoid Obsession Onscreen — Watch the 4K Trailer
Image
Spanish auteur Luis Buñuel helped shape the language of cinema with his now-iconic surrealist reveries, so it’s only fitting that the re-release of one of his most beloved films lands in a time of collective social discord and disillusionment.

Buñuel, who arguably is best known for directing Catherine Deneuve in the legendary 1967 film “Belle de Jour,” helmed an ode to the frustrating pitfalls of the male id more than a decade prior, with 1953’s “Él.” Translated to simply be titled “Him,” the film centers on a paranoid priest (Arturo de Córdova) whose grasp on reality is skewed amid his obsession with a woman seeking solace and absolution (Delia Garcés).

The late Mexican filmmaker directed 35 movies between 1929 and 1977 in the span of his career.

The official synopsis for “Él” reads: “After fleeing her abusive husband, Delia Garcés seeks out the advice of a clergyman, only to discover that her husband...

7 Netflix shows you probably missed in 2024
Image
While there are a bunch of good Netflix shows coming in 2025, there were also a lot of good Netflix shows that were overlooked last year. We shared a list of the seven best Netflix shows you might have missed in 2024.

Overall, 2024 was a challenging year for new TV and film. Because Netflix and the other studios were unable to make a deal with the actors' and writers' unions, TV production was delayed for the majority of 2023. So, in 2024, there simply were fewer shows than fans were expecting. And yet, there were still several underrated series fans needed to watch. Well, now, it's time to get caught up before Netflix starts dropping even more big shows in 2025.

For some reason, Adeel Akhtar stars in three of the seven Netflix shows I picked. That was not intentional, but my guy is an incredible actor! Everything he's in is good!

Let's get the...

Lily-Rose Depp will always have Sam Levinson‘s back.

The actress is continuing to defend The Idol co-creator after he received backlash in 2023 for the controversial HBO series, which saw Depp play Jocelyn, opposite Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye’s Tedros. Levinson also created Euphoria, starring Zendaya.

'I Feel the Exact Same Way': Alien: Covenant Actor Wants Ridley Scott to Finish His Prequel Trilogy
Image
Prometheus revisited Alien lore and Alien: Covenant teased a sequel movie. Actor Katherine Waterston echoes Ridley Scott’s interest in finishing the prequel trilogy.

Actor Katherine Waterston hopes her character survived Alien: Covenant’s ending. “I like to think that Daniels made it out of the pod, but I'm not sure,” she told Inverse. Daniels seemed the final girl of that film but the cliffhanger confirmed that David, not Walter (both played by Michael Fassbender), put Daniels into cryosleep. David linked Prometheus’ story to Alien: Covenant, which revealed that he experimented on Elizabeth Shaw and massacred the Engineers. Waterstone said Ridley Scott’s prequels deserved a wrap-up (or continuing story) to the David trilogy.

'It's a Perfect Beginning': Ridley Scott Says 1 Alien Movie Really Needs a Direct Sequel
Image
Alien fans were excited about the news of an Alien: Romulus follow-up. Franchise creator Ridley Scott stokes the fire with a tease for another sequel's plot.

Director Ridley Scott told THR that Prometheus resurrected the Alien franchise. Expressing his regret over not taking ownership of the IP after the success of Alien, Scott also said the sequels botched the canon plot. "I watched Alien 2, 3 and 4 and realized, 'Oh, you just ran that firmly into the ground,'" he asserted. "Then I went back to [former 20th Century Fox chief Tom Rothman] and said, 'Listen, there's a way out. We should resurrect Alien with Prometheus.'" That movie divided the fan base but has since gained a cult following; it also earned a sequel in Alien: Covenant.
