Mattson Tomlin may now be busy with projects in the Game of Thrones and DC universes, but prior to these titles, he nearly wrote for another famed fantasy franchise.

Tomlin isn’t a household name yet, but he’s making his mark as a Hollywood screenwriter. After projects like Project Power, he worked on the screenplay for 2022’s The Batman starring Robert Pattinson. He was also the showrunner for the Netflix Terminator Zero anime series.

Superman director and DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn is back on Threads, and this time offered some minor updates on a few upcoming projects.

Despite repeatedly saying that The Brave and the Bold and Batman are a priority for DC Studios following Superman's release, the filmmaker started by confirming he and Peter Safran still haven't cast the next Caped Crusader. It's clear now that we're unlikely to see the hero make a cameo appearance in next year's Clayface movie, despite it being set in the Dcu.

Gunn also addressed persistent rumours that Hush is the main villain in Matt Reeves' The Batman Part II. While he didn't flat-out debunk the character's involvement in the long-delayed sequel, he also cautioned that fans shouldn't believe everything they read online.

To this point, no new actors have joined The Batman 2 cast at the time of this article's publication, as specific details on the new storyline for the highly anticipated sequel have been kept under wraps. However, that is not stopping rumors from emerging online about who may be Batman's next enemy in Reeves' universe.

As Gunn uses his social media presence to sometimes address when a report is false, DC fans regularly ask him about various rumors. A fan recently asked Gunn on Threads if there is any truth to the DC Comics villain Hush being in The Batman 2.

New footage reveals a key scene from Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey a year before its release. The Sandman Season 2 on Netflix wrapped its epic story with Volume 2’s release on July 24, 2025. Showrunner Allan Heinberg has just revealed that Robert Pattinson was briefly considered to make an appearance as Batman in the final season of the show.

Talking to Variety about infusing DC superheroes into The Sandman’s lore, Heinberg shared:

We talked about, ‘Does Robert Pattinson want to come to the funeral?’ Briefly, we did discuss that, but only briefly.

If Batman and his signature cowl were to make an appearance, it would’ve been as one of the mourners during the funeral scene. However, the cameo never materialized. The idea fizzled out almost as soon as it came up, as explained by Heinberg. However, another DC superhero made his way into the lore.

Christopher Nolan's film adaptation of Homer's "The Odyssey" is currently shooting on location all around the world. Matt Damon is playing Odysseus, with Tom Holland portraying Odysseus' son, Telemachus. In addition, Charlize Theron is reported to be playing Circe, while the film boasts a giant cast of huge celebrities, including Zendaya, Anne Hatheway, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Will Yun Lee, Mia Goth, and many others besides. Filming has taken place in Aït Benhaddou, Morocco, and various locations around Greece. Some scenes were filmed on Sicily, and others were filmed in the woods of Scotland or at a studio in Los Angeles. It appears that Nolan wanted to re-visit the real locations of the Mediterranean where "The Odyssey" takes place. Well, Scotland and L.A. notwithstanding.

According to a new report from Deadline, however, Nolan has filmed "The Odyssey" in a location that is politically problematic.

In a new video posted on social media, the Aquaman actor said the last time he had shaved was for the first film.

Washington stars alongside John Goodman (The Big Lebowski) and Donald Sutherland (The Hunger Games) in Fallen, the 1998 supernatural police procedural following detective John Hobbes (Washington), an officer who witnesses the execution of a serial murderer, only to see his killings mysteriously resume after his death. Fallen has become a global streaming sensation of late, charting in countries such as the Dominican Republic, among others. The film was panned by critics, who gave it a 41% on Rotten Tomatoes, but it landed a kinder 72% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter. This past weekend's San Diego Comic-Con was one of the worst in recent memory for news (most studios release their trailers before the event), but there are still lots of interesting tidbits floating around for fans of the MCU and Dcu.

We'll start this roundup with a new social post from Superman director James Gunn. The horrifying Mr. Handsome—who acted as Lex Luthor's slave in his pocket universe—has intrigued fans, with some speculating that he might be a White Martian, for example.

In a post featuring several new behind-the-scenes photos, Gunn explained, "Lex created Mr. Handsome in a Petri dish when he was 12 - he was trying to make a human. He didn't come out so well, but he just might be the only one in the world Lex has any true sentiment for, as evidenced by the photo on his desk."

James Gunn shares an update on whether Robert Pattinson's Batman will be integrated into the DC Universe. As DC Studios works on a new movie for Batman set in Gunn's Dcu timeline, Matt Reeves' The Batman universe is also ongoing and set under the separate Elseworlds banner. Pattinson will reprise the role in The Batman 2, which will begin filming at the end of 2025.

However, some DC audience members have made it clear that they want to see Pattinson's take on The Dark Knight join the Dcu rather than exist outside of it. While Gunn has commented on casting Batman for the Dcu with a separate actor, many are still holding out hope for Pattinson's Bruce Wayne to join DC Studios' main continuity.

Christopher Nolan has been busy filming his 2026 epic “The Odyssey” in various parts of the world. But according to the Western Sahara International Film Festival (FiSahara), he would not be shooting in Dakhla if he knew how Moroccan forces allegedly treat the indigenous Sahrawi population.

FiSahara issued a public statement last week urging the director to halt filming on his Universal Pictures adaptation of Homer’s poem that stars Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Logan Marshall-Green, Jon Bernthal and Charlize Theron.

“Dakhla is not just a beautiful location with cinematic sand dunes. Primarily, it is an occupied, militarized city whose indigenous Sahrawi population is subject to brutal repression by occupying Moroccan forces,” the festival shared last Tuesday. “Stop filming in Dakhla and stand in solidarity with the indigenous Sahrawis who have been under military occupation for 50 years, and who are routinely jailed and tortured...

Earlier this month, the British director filmed for four days near the coastal city of Dakhla, which is part of a region that the United Nations has designated as a “non‑self‑governing territory” since 1963.

Western Sahara, which has become a magnet for big-budget shoots like the Prime Video series The Wheel of Time, is not legally part of Morocco, but the U.S. and UK are among Western governments to recently endorse the North African nation’s claim over the land.
