Image
The doctor who gave Matthew Perry ketamine before his death has now pleaded guilty to illegally supplying the drug. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Dr. Salvador Plasencia entered his plea in a Los Angeles court on Wednesday.

He admitted to four counts of ketamine distribution and could face up to 10 years in prison for each charge.

Plasencia was one of five people charged after Perry died from a ketamine overdose in October 2023. The actor, best known for playing Chandler Bing on Friends, was found unresponsive in his hot tub at home in Los Angeles. He was 54 years old. An autopsy later confirmed the cause of death was acute ketamine toxicity.

Plasencia, who ran an urgent care clinic in Malibu, was originally headed to trial in August. But instead, he took a plea deal. Prosecutors say he handed out ketamine vials, lozenges, and syringes to Perry and his assistant,...

Plasencia will give up his medical license within about a month. His lawyer, Karen Goldstein, said in a statement, “Dr. Plasencia is profoundly remorseful for the treatment decisions he made… He is fully accepting responsibility.”

Matthew Perry’s Doctor Enters Guilty Plea to Ketamine Distribution

Matthew Perry’s doctor, Salvador Plasencia, entered a guilty plea Wednesday to four counts of ketamine distribution, and will face sentencing on Dec. 3.

As part of the deal, Plasencia, 43, will surrender his medical license within the next 30-45 days, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. He will remain free on bond pending his sentencing.

The lone remaining defendant in the case, Jasveen Sangha, nicknamed the “Ketamine Queen,” is scheduled to face a trial next month. She is alleged to have maintained a stash house in North Hollywood for the illicit distribution of the drug.

Dr. Salvador Plasencia, Who Supplied Ketamine To Matthew Perry Before Overdose Death, To Plead Guilty, Faces 40 Years In Prison
Image
On Monday, Dr. Salvador Plasencia agreed to plead guilty to illegally supplying the late Friends star Matthew Perry with Ketamine, which led to his accidental fatal overdose.

The agreement will see Plasencia plead guilty to four counts of distributing ketamine in the next few weeks. He faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of at least $2 million.

Perry, 54, had been undergoing ketamine infusion therapy to treat anxiety and depression before his death on October 28, 2023. However, federal prosecutors said that he had solicited and obtained unsupervised doses, which led to him developing an uncontrollable dependence on ketamine. Perry had a long and very public history of substance addiction.

Prosecutors reported that Perry had paid $55,000 per day for six to eight shots of ketamine in about a month, doses supplied to him by Plasencia and others, including Dr. Mark Chavez. Text messages between...

‘Inside Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy’: Release Date, Plot, and What We Know So Far

In the final hours of his life, Matthew Perry would step into his backyard jacuzzi and make an ominous request: “Shoot me up with a big one.” The ketamine injection – his third of the day – would be his last.

The Friends star was eventually discovered floating face down in the water. The drug meant to treat his depression had instead taken his life. What followed was a sweeping federal investigation that pulled back the curtain on Hollywood’s hidden ketamine pipeline.

Perry had long battled addiction, a struggle he openly detailed in his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing. For him, the combination of enablers, addiction, and an unchecked drug market created the perfect storm – one that ultimately cost him his life.

Matthew Perry Received 27 Shots of Ketamine In the Days Before His Death: Report

Reading Time: 3 minutes

It’s been 16 months since the death of Matthew Perry.

And as his fans and loved ones continue to mourn his loss, investigators continue to probe the late star’s final days in an effort to determine if he died as a result of criminal wrongdoing.

Perry overdosed on ketamine at the age of 54. He had been using the drug as part of his treatment to overcome the substance abuse issues that had plagued him for decades.

Ketamine therapy is effective for some addicts, but that obviously was not the case with Perry, who allegedly began using the drug compulsively.

Prosecutors Say Matthew Perry’s Doctors Abused Actor’s Addiction For Profit: ‘I Wonder How Much This Moron Will Pay’
Image
The new Peacock special, Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy, reveals new details about the beloved Friends star Matthew Perry’s harrowing death.

Perry, who struggled with addiction throughout his life, died on Oct. 28, 2023, after he was found unresponsive in his hot tub. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Though there were initially no signs of foul play, his autopsy revealed the cause of his death to be “acute effects of ketamine.”

Perry’s supposed sober status at the time of his death prompted a criminal investigation into uncovering the source of the drugs. Five people were charged in connection to Perry’s death in August 2024, including his drug suppliers and the assistants who provided support and delivery.

Former U.S. attorney for the Central District of California E. Martin Estrada, whose office opened the case, said, “One of the overall themes of our indictment is that all these defendants would have known better…...

They did come together for the Friends Reunion which aired on Max but this would have been something really special. Matthew drowned in his jacuzzi but there was more to the story.

Dr. Mark Chavez, who sold ketamine to another doctor tied to the death of Matthew Perry, has been released on a $500,000 bond just two weeks after being arrested. He, too, is expressing remorse over the death, which occurred in October of last year.

Outside of a Los Angeles courthouse this week, a lawyer defending Chavez stated that the former doctor – who has since been stripped of his license – is “incredibly remorseful”, while a defense attorney added that this sentiment was not solely because of the fame that Matthew Perry had but also because it happened to any patient of his. That attorney also added, “He is trying to do everything in his power to right the wrong that happened here. He didn’t accept responsibility today, but only because it wasn’t on the calendar.” Chavez was expected to plead guilty in the death of Matthew Perry on Friday, August 30th.

Matthew Perry Doctor Who Sold Massive Vials of Ketamine to ‘Friends’ Actor to Plead Guilty to Federal Charge
Image
A doctor who arranged to sell massive vials of ketamine for Matthew Perry in the month before his overdose death will plead guilty to a single federal charge, authorities said Friday.

Mark Chavez has agreed to plead guilty to one federal count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine, according to a Justice Department statement. The 54-year-old San Diego doctor once met Perry at the Long Beach Aquarium parking lot to inject the “Friends” actor, who would be found later that month face-down in the hot tub behind his Pacific Palisades home.

Chavez is among five people charged earlier this month in the October death that was ruled a ketamine overdose with drowning as a factor. Chavez admitted to diverting vials of the drug from his former ketamine clinic and selling it to Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who provided it to Perry in a broader illegal distribution scheme.

Federal Charges Filed in Matthew Perry Ketamine Case
Matthew Perry
Federal prosecutors have charged five individuals in an alleged scheme to provide the late actor Matthew Perry with ketamine in the months before his death last year. Those charged include two doctors, a woman known as the “Ketamine Queen”, a former film director, and Perry’s assistant. They face accusations of conspiring to illegally distribute ketamine to Perry, who had long struggled with substance abuse issues.

The case claims those involved prioritized profits over Perry’s well-being as his addiction worsened. Court documents describe a troubling scenario where one doctor reportedly called Perry a “moron” and suppliers used his famous character name from Friends. Prosecutors say Perry began ketamine therapy for depression and anxiety at a local clinic but later got higher doses from other sources when the clinic refused.

Doctors Salvador Plasencia and Mark Chavez are accused of providing Perry 20 vials of ketamine for $55,000 in cash, even though the vials only cost $12 each.

Matthew Perry’s Assistant & Others Tried To Cover Up Overdose
Image
Matthew Perry’s assistant and the other individuals tied to the star’s death allegedly tried to cover up his overdose. More details from court documents reveal what they did and said to try and cover everything up.

The trio did what they could to get rid of any evidence that would link them to the ketamine that ultimately took the late actor’s life. Fleming and the “Ketamine Queen” were the first to attempt to cover their tracks by “deleting digital evidence” from their phones.

Jasveen Sangha told Fleming to delete the text messages they’d exchanged. They also updated Signal, which is an encrypted app, to automatically delete messages between the two of them.
