Lily James Teases Her "Feral" and "Raw" Remake of Sylvester Stallone's Classic 68% Rotten Tomatoes Action Flick
Image
Since its 1993 release, multiple efforts have been made to either reboot or continue Sylvester Stallone’s high-altitude action film, Cliffhanger. One of the more recent iterations had Stallone attached in a supporting role that would have seen him pass the torch to a new generation of mountain climbers, much like his approach in Creed. However, that version fell apart following a major creative overhaul, which brought on a new set of cast and characters as well as a new director. The project was subsequently reimagined as a gender-swapped remake, with Lily James taking on the lead role. Now, James has provided an encouraging update, confirming that the film has made significant progress and is on track to hit screens soon.

James will next be seen in the movie, Finally Dawn, due out next weekend on July 18, 2025. While promoting the film recently, the actress spoke to ScreenRant, in an interview where...

‘It's feral, it's raw’: Lily James teases ‘real re-imagining’ of Sylvester Stallone’s Cliffhanger
Lily James has teased the Cliffhanger reboot is a “real re-imagining” of the original movie. The 36-year-old actress will star in the new take of Sylvester Stallone’s 1993 action flick as Naomi Cooper, and James has now revealed Cliffhanger is “definitely different” to the first flick.Speaking with Screen Rant, she said: “I don't want to say too much to give it away right now. What I will say is I had one of the most thrilling experiences of my life. We shot in the Dolomites. We were there for six weeks on the mountains. “I was really hanging off mountains. We had to shut down multiple times because of freak snowstorms. “The story is very much through Naomi and her sister Sydney. I would hope that we are maintaining what people love about the original cliffhanger, but it's definitely different. “It's feral, it's raw. It's a real re-imagining, and I am producing it too.

Minotaur: Natalie Dormer, Assaad Bouab star in Welsh/French thriller series
Image
Natalie Dormer of Game of Thrones and Assaad Bouab of Call My Agent are set to star in the thriller series Minotaur, a six-part Welsh/French show created, written, and directed by Celyn Jones, who previously co-wrote and co-directed the 2022 psychological drama The Almond and the Seahorse, starring Rebel Wilson. Mad As Birds, the production company Jones runs with Sean Marley, is producing the series, and some episodes will be directed by Charles Sturridge (Marcella).

Unfortunately, it doesn’t like Minotaur will actually deal with the part man / part bull creature from Greek mythology that it gets its name from. Instead, the story follows Luc (Bouab), a cold-blooded killer who escapes Paris’s criminal underbelly for the more prosaic North Wales. There he meets Angel (Dormer) who lives in a struggling community she feels she can never belong to, raising her son Joe alone. Whilst fighting addiction, Angel gravitates towards the mysterious Luc.

It’s been two years since audiences were introduced to the Garvey sisters in Apple’s “Bad Sisters,” created by Sharon Horgan, Dave Finkel, and Brett Baer — two years since Eva (Horgan), Ursula (Eva Birthistle), Bibi (Sarah Greene), and Becka (Eve Hewson) conspired to kill their sister Grace’s (Anne-Marie Duff) husband, only for him to turn up dead under mysterious and unplanned circumstances.

Season 2 premieres November 13 with two episodes, to answer burning questions as well as to raise new ones. How much does Grace’s daughter really know? How have the sisters healed since the death of “the prick”? Will the police get involved this time and actually uncover the murder? Are Becka and Matt (Daryl McCormack) still together?

But before all that, let’s review the key plot points in “Bad Sisters” Season 1.

‘Cliffhanger’ Reboot Gets Retooled: Lily James, Pierce Brosnan to Star as Sylvester Stallone Exits
Image
Lily James and Pierce Brosnan are ready to rock with their reboot of Cliffhanger.

Principal photography commenced in Austria for an updated take on the 1993 film of the same name that starred Sylvester Stallone. Jaume Collet-Serra directs the new movie that is planning a theatrical release and hails from Rocket Science, in partnership with Thank You Pictures and Supernix.

The Cliffhanger reboot centers on mountaineer Ray Cooper (Brosnan), who runs a chalet with his daughter in the Dolomites, a mountain range in Italy. When the pair are kidnapped, older daughter Naomi (James) — still dealing with trauma from a previous climbing incident — must overcome her past to save her family.

Stallone was announced last year as starring in the reboot but has since exited the project, as has previously announced director Ric Roman Waugh.

Rounding out the cast are Nell Tiger Free, Franz Rogowski, Shubham Saraf, Assaad Bouab, Suzy Bemba and Bruno Gouery.

Cliffhanger 2 Loses Sylvester Stallone Amid Creative Overhaul
Image
Its bad news for Sylvester Stallone fans who were hoping to see him pop up in Cliffhanger 2, as Variety reports that Sly is now out, and Pierce Brosnan and Lily James are in. Set to follow in the footsteps of the 1993 action-thriller, filming is underway in Austria on the production, which has undergone a complete overhaul since it was announced a little while ago, so much so that were wondering if it can even be called a sequel.

Originally featuring Stallone reprising his role of Gabe Walker only for him to be kidnapped and rescued by his mountain-climbing daughter, based on the official synopsis, the movie doesnt look to have gone through too many plot changes now that Brosnan is taking over for Stallone. It was previously reported that Ric Roman Waugh (Greenland) would helm the sequel, but hes out as well, with Jaume Collet-Serra taking on directorial duties. The...

‘Cliffhanger’ Reboot Reconfigured: Sylvester Stallone Out, Lily James and Pierce Brosnan In
Image
A “Cliffhanger” follow-up keeps on rolling. But now in a much different configuration.

Rocket Science in partnership with Thank You Pictures and Supernix has announced that filming is underway on “Cliffhanger,” a reboot of the 1993 action extravaganza that starred Sylvester Stallone and John Lithgow. This new version stars Lily James and Pierce Brosnan and is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, based on a story by Ana Lily Amirpour.

A proposed follow-up to “Cliffhanger” dates back to 1994, when TriStar announced “Cliffhanger 2: The Dam,” with Stallone returning. For years it sat fallow until 2019, when Amirpour was hired and Jason Momoa was earmarked to star. In 2023 it was re-announced as a legacy sequel, with Stallone set to return under the direction of Ric Roman Waugh. Mark Bianculli wrote that version of the script. Later in 2023, Jean-François Richet was hired to replace Waugh.

And now the production has veered in an entirely different direction,...

Franklin: What Happened To Pierre Beaumarchais After The American Revolution
Image
Beaumarchais played a crucial role in the American Revolution as a key French ally, using diplomacy, espionage, and financing to support the cause. His covert activities included supplying arms and supplies to American rebels, ultimately helping to break the British army at Saratoga in 1777. After the Revolution, Beaumarchais faced legal troubles in France but continued to pledge loyalty to the Revolutionary establishment, eventually passing away in 1799.

As seen in Franklin, Benjamin Franklin's secret mission to France to secure aid for the United States of America only succeeded thanks to several key French allies, and none was more significant than the French polymath Pierre Beaumarchais. Of the many colorful characters in the cast of Franklin, Assaad Bouab's Pierre Beaumarchais is among the most charismatic and talented. While Beaumarchais was heavily involved in entertainment as a talented musician and playwright, his influence extended into diplomacy, espionage, invention, and finance.

Beaumarchais, along...

Franklin TV Review
Image
Plot: In December 1776, Benjamin Franklin is world famous for his electrical experiments. But his passion and power are put to the test when he embarks on a secret mission to France—with the fate of American independence hanging in the balance.

Review: Of all the television and big screen depictions of the Revolutionary War and the early days of the United States, few have focused specifically on Benjamin Franklin. The scientist, inventor, scholar, and dignitary has been a key character in many projects, notably played by Tom Wilkinson in HBO’s John Adams and by Howard De Silva in the musical 1776, but always as a supporting player. Despite being one of the Founding Fathers and having his iconic visage gracing the one hundred dollar bill, the first narrative production centered on his life is just now being released. Franklin, an eight-episode limited series from AppleTV+ and ITV America, focuses on...

“The show was a great reminder for me about how fragile democracy is,” Douglas said in response to Variety‘s question during the press conference on Wednesday morning ahead of the Apple TV+ series’ premiere at Canneseries in the South of France later that evening. “And I think that Ben would be highly, highly disappointed in the distortion of either a republic or democracy that the United States has become. I hope that this upcoming election will be a cathartic experience for the United States and turn the page onto a new chapter.”

“A Quiet Place” star Noah Jupe, who plays Franklin’s grandson Temple, said he was intrigued by the fact the story of Franklin’s voyage to France at the age of 70 – to ask...

The series is set at a pivotal moment in the founding father’s life. He’s in France in 1776, trying to secure the court of Louis XVI’s support for the revolution. ‘Call My Agent’ U.K. Won’t Return for Second Season (Exclusive)
Image
“Call My Agent” U.K. — launched locally as “Ten Percent” — will not return for a second season, Variety can confirm.

The re-make of the hit French comedy, which starred Jack Davenport, Lydia Leonard, Prasanna Puwanarajah and Maggie Steed, launched on Amazon Prime Video in the U.K. in April 2022 to high hopes. In the U.S. it premiered on Sundance Now and AMC+.

The original series, titled “Dix Pour Cent” (“Ten Percent”) in France, was a sleeper hit, spawning four seasons and turning its cast, including Camille Cottin and Assaad Bouab, into international stars. Cottin will next be seen in Kenneth Branagh’s “A Haunting in Venice” and Guy Nattiv’s “Golda,” while Bouab recently had roles in “Inventing Anna” and “Bad Sisters.”

The self-referential show, set in the offices of a Parisian talent agency, was also known for its many celebrity cameos including Monica Belluci, Sigourney Weaver and Juliette Binoche,...

Apple TV+ Renews Bad Sisters For Season 2
Eva Birthistle, Anne-Marie Duff, Sharon Horgan, Eve Hewson, and Sarah Greene in Malas hermanas (2022)
Apple TV+ has announced a season two renewal for “Bad Sisters,” the global hit, darkly comedic murder mystery series from Emmy Award nominee and BAFTA Award-winning executive producer and star Sharon Horgan. “If you’d have told me three years ago that I’d be making a series about five murderous sisters chasing a man around Ireland trying to kill him I’d have said; yeah, that sounds about right. The response to our show had been beyond what we could have hoped for. It gave us the opportunity to shine a light on stories that don’t always get such a global platform. I look forward to getting chilly in the Irish Sea one more time.” Since its global premiere, “Bad Sisters” has been hailed as “one of the year’s best shows,” “a wickedly funny, genuinely poignant” dramedy, and “this year’s most vicious comic treat.” As each...

‘Bad Sisters’ Renewed for Season 2 at Apple TV+
Image
“Bad Sisters,” the Apple TV+ dark comedy series created by and starring Sharon Horgan, has been renewed for Season 2, the streamer announced. The news comes less than a month after its 10-episode first season concluded on October 14.

Based on the 2012 Flemish TV series “Clan,” “Bad Sisters” stars Horgan as Eva Garvey, the eldest of five sisters, who ends up in the middle of a life insurance investigation when her brother-in-law John Paul (Claes Bang) dies under uncertain circumstances. As overzealous insurance agent Thomas (Brian Gleeson) tries to prove Eva and her sisters’ involvement in the death, the show flips from the weeks following his funeral to the weeks leading up to his death, when Eva plotted to murder John Paul with Ursula (Eva Birthistle), Bibi (Sarah Greene), and Becka (Eve Hewson) in revenge for his abusive treatment of their sister Grace (Anne Marie-Duff).

Apple TV+ will spend more time with its group of Bad Sisters.

The tech behemoth’s streaming service has ordered a second season of its dark comedy/murder mystery Bad Sisters, co-created by and starring Sharon Horgan. The renewal comes comes a few weeks after the conclusion of the 10-episode first season, which has earned mostly positive reviews from critics (The Hollywood Reporter’s Angie Han called it “never boring” but also “slightly less than the sum of its parts”). Apple TV+ doesn’t self-report any viewing data, and the show did not break into Nielsen’s streaming top 10 during its run.

“If you’d have told me three years ago that I’d be making a series about five murderous sisters chasing a man around Ireland trying to kill him I’d have said; yeah, that sounds about right,” Horgan said in a statement.

Awards spotlight: Will delightfully devious ‘Bad Sisters’ follow in the footsteps of ‘Desperate Housewives’ and ‘Dead to Me’?
Image
“Bad Sisters” is a sinister mystery from the beginning. In the opening scene we see Grace (Anne-Marie Duff) chopping onions as she weeps. But is she crying because of the onions, or the dead husband parked in her living room, wearing pajamas and sporting an erection she’ll have to hide from guests arriving for his funeral? That husband’s name is John Paul (Claes Bang) and he’s introduced to us as “The Prick.” He’s a jerk and Grace and her four sisters have reason to kill him, hence the plot of this devilishly fun family drama on Apple TV+.

The witty and darkly comedic murder mystery series certainly induces laughter, but will compete in drama categories at the upcoming Golden Globes and SAG Awards. Emmy nominee and BAFTA Award-winning creator and star Sharon Horgan developed the 10-episode series that debuted globally with the first two episodes on Friday,...
