The 1996 F1 World Champion is the subject of new sports documentary “Hill” that dives into his life, career and loss of his father Graham Hill – a fellow world champion.

The anticipation for the Glasgow Film Festival continues to grow with the announcement of more big names bringing their star power to the city.

Survival thriller, Tornado, opens Gff with stars Tim Roth and Kõki attending alongside Edinburgh director John Maclean for its world premiere.

Hollywood legend Ed Harris will attend for the UK premiere of Long Day’s Journey Into Night alongside the icon Jessica Lange, whose In Conversation event is now sold out.

One of the true greats of F1, Damon Hill, will be at the festival for Hill – a moving documentary on his life and his father, fellow F1 champion Graham Hill who died in a plane accident when Hill was a teenager.

A favourite of the festival, George Mackay, returns for the odd post-apocalyptic musical The End also starring Tilda Swinton.

The 21st edition of the festival runs from February 26th to March 9th. This year Gff...

2025 looks to be something of a treat if you sit in the overlapping part of a Venn diagram featuring cinema and Formula 1. First up we have F1, Joseph Kosinski’s highly-anticipated follow-up to Top Gun: Maverick set to arrive in June of this year, featuring Brad Pitt, Damson Idris and plenty of practical driving sequences filmed at actual Formula 1 events. Oh, and British racing champion Lewis Hamilton has been a hands-on producer on the project.

The world premiere of John Maclean’sTornado, starring Tim Roth and Jack Lowden. will open the 21st edition of theGlasgow Film Festival (Gff).

The survival thriller, which shot on location in Scotland, is set in 1790s Britain. A woman named Tornado, played by Japanese model and songwriter Kōki, finds herself caught in peril when she and her father’s travelling puppet show cross paths with a ruthless criminal gang.Lionsgate UK will release the film theatrically in the UK and Ireland from May.

Maclean’s previous film was 2015 western Slow West starringMichael Fassbender.

Comcast-owned Sky has taken the checkered flag and will exclusively show the feature documentary Hill about Formula 1 star Damon Hill in the U.K. and Ireland under a deal with U.K. film distribution, production and sales outfit Signature Entertainment.

Signature said that it was partnering with Sky for the movie from Independent Entertainment to premiere in the two territories as a Sky Exclusive later this year.

Produced by Simon Lazenby and Victoria Barrell of Sylver Entertainment (McEnroe, Schmeichel) and Cora Palfrey and Luc Roeg of Independent Entertainment (Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now, My Policeman), the feature is directed by BAFTA-nominated Alex Holmes (Maiden, The Rig).

In 1996, Damon Hill claimed the Formula 1 World Championship, following in the footsteps of his father, Graham Hill. “This is a unique family story set against the backdrop of the fastest sport in the world,” says a synopsis of the film.

Exclusive: Former Formula One champ Damon Hill is the subject of a new documentary from Alex Holmes, director of BAFTA-nominated doc biopic Maiden.

The feature will explore the story of how Damon Hill overcame the tragic death of his father, Formula One icon Graham Hill, and set himself the challenge of becoming world champion in one of the world’s fastest and most dangerous sports. It will chart a son’s life-long search to understand his father set against the backdrop of two contrasting eras of the sport, and how Damon wrestled with his father’s legacy.

With the support of Damon Hill, and the Hill Estate, the filmmakers will use Hill’s intimate family archive as well as archives featuring the glamorous but highly dangerous era of 1960s motorsport and the intense on track rivalries of 1990s Formula One icons Schumacher, Senna and Prost.

Production is due to start later this year.
