Hawk Tuah Girl’s First Pitch at a Mets Game Got Everyone Unnecessarily Mad
Image
Haliey “Hawk Tuah Girl” Welch joined the storied ranks of Yo La Tengo, Japanese Breakfast, 50 Cent, and Grimace by throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at a New York Mets game.

Welch took the mound Thursday as the Mets faced off against the Oakland Athletics, and her throw was solid. Welch knew her game, didn’t try to hurl 60 feet to home plate, tossed a strike to her friend instead, and then shared a celebratory chest bump.

It was totally innocuous, the usual stunt a baseball team will pull...

The 1975 began their Still… At Their Very Best Tour in September and it seems that fans have been enjoying every minute of their shows.

Fans have been treated to exciting performances of their hit songs like “The 1975,” “Be My Mistake” and “Looking For Somebody To Love.” They weren’t the only ones onstage, though, as they also have up-and-coming singer Dora Jar join them as their opener for many of their shows.

At their Madison Square Garden stop, frontman Matty Healy welcomed his father, Tim, up on the stage, where he sang the band’s song “All I Need To Hear.”

The tour follows the 1975’s previous tour, At Their Very Best, which began in November 2022 and ended in August this year. Still…At Their Very Best is set to end in March 2024, making it almost two years of back-to-back concerts.

It comes as no surprise that Healy has suggested...

Matty Healy appears to do Nazi salute on stage at The 1975 show
Image
The 1975 frontman Matty Healy appeared to do a Nazi salute on stage during a recent performance.

The band – behind hits such as “Robbers” and “It’s Not Living” – are currently on tour.

During one performance, video of which has circulated online, Healy, 33, appeared to perform a Nazi salute while marching on the spot.

He made the action during a performance of The 1975’s song “Love it If We Made It”, as he sang the lyrics: “Thank you, Kanye, very cool.”

Kanye West has found himself recently embroiled in controversy over a number of antisemitic remarks. He has consequently been dropped by French fashion house Balenciaga.

The Independent has contacted a representative of Healy’s for comment.

His actions have sparked controversy online, with fans of the band condemning the singer. Others, however, have claimed that he was being “satirical” and “mocking” West over the rapper’s antisemetic statements.

“Why is...

Vice TV’s “Dark Side of the 90’s” returns with its second season next month, featuring new twisted tales from the era. In the Season 2 trailer, which is exclusive to Variety, Mary Jo Buttafuoco breaks down the infamous 1992 incident in which she was shot in the face by Amy Fisher, a teenager that her husband, Joey Buttafuoco, had committed statutory rape against.

The Selling Of The Toys That Made Us
Brian Volk-Weiss Apr 9, 2019

The creator of Netflix's The Toys That Made Us takes us through the five-year process to get his passion project made.

This guest column comes from Brian Volk-Weiss, creator and executive producer of Netflix's The Toys That Made Us.

In 2011, I was in a Borders bookstore when the initial kernel of the idea that would become The Toys That Made Us hit me like a ton of Energon Cubes; why were there so many books about the War of 1812 and zero about the origin of Transformers? Or G.I. Joe? Or He-Man? The War of 1812’s importance notwithstanding, how was it possible that hundreds of millions of people knew the names Optimus Prime and Snake Eyes, had their youths shaped by those characters, and yet not one book out of the thousands that were on display could be purchased and taken home to learn about their origins?...

Do I not like that: 6 times football documentaries went properly bonkers
Football documentaries - they're a funny old game. Today's fly-on-the-wall peeks into the lives of Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo may have marked a welcome return of the genre - but compared to mud-and-studs docs of old, they're as over-polished and blemish-free as one of David Beckham's Armani suits.

And so ahead of Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville and co's new BBC documentary series Out of Their League, let's reminisce about some classic football programmes - when the beautiful game felt like less a Nike advert, more like an episode of Bullseye.

1. Graham Taylor gets the sack

After an abysmal 1992 European Championships, England manager needed some positive PR, so the Fa allowed camera crews to follow him round during the entire 1994 World Cup qualification campaign for An Impossible Job.

Whoops: this spectacularly backfired for old Turnip Head, as England were knocked out. But not before Taylor effed and jeffed his way through every single match,...

10 cult ITV classics that everyone forgets - from Terrahawks to the Second Coming
ITV has hit a mighty milestone - first launched on September 22, 1955, the home of The X Factor, Downton Abbey and more is 60 years old today.

In its six decades, ITV has produced some of the biggest, best and most memorable TV shows in British broadcasting history.

But while everyone else is talking up Gladiators, Coronation Street and Blind Date, we wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate a few of the channel's less celebrated gems.

1. The Krypton Factor (1977-1995)

"Television's Toughest Quiz!" boomed the announcer back when the show launched in 1977. And even almost forty years later, nothing has quite matched Granada's brutal search for a UK superperson since.

Resembling a cross between a byzantine parlour game and a Soviet-era punishment for shoplifting, each week saw four more contestants subjected to a variety of cruel and unusual tests – from terrifying memory tests to landing a Boeing 747 (albeit on a simulator).

But worst of all?...

Benidorm cast get the giggles in exclusive outtakes clip
If this exclusive outtakes clip is anything to go by, it appears the cast of Benidorm have just as many laughs off screen as they do in front of the camera.

The cast descends into laughter as Johnny Vegas forgets a fellow character's name, while Jake Canuso admits defeat after getting tongue-tied in a scene.

The laughter keeps coming as Tim Healy's mistake suggests he's thinking of the catering table, and once again Vegas tries to control his giggles as a scene goes wrong.

Benidorm was recently renewed for an eighth series.

The comedy will film seven new episodes in Spain later this year.

Dame Joan Collins reprised her role as Solana Group boss Crystal Hennessy-Vass in the current seventh series, which airs on ITV.

Benidorm series 7 is out on DVD on 23rd February and available to order from Amazon.

Dr Who: films of Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy
Feature Alex Westthorp 16 Apr 2014 - 07:00

Alex's trek through the film roles of actors who've played the Doctor reaches Peter Davison, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy...

Read the previous part in this series, Doctor Who: the film careers of Patrick Troughton and Tom Baker, here.

In March 1981, as he made his Doctor Who debut, Peter Davison was already one the best known faces on British television. Not only was he the star of both a BBC and an ITV sitcom - Sink Or Swim and Holding The Fort - but as the young and slightly reckless Tristan Farnon in All Creatures Great And Small, about the often humorous cases of Yorkshire vet James Herriot and his colleagues, he had cemented his stardom. The part led, indirectly, to his casting as the venerable Time Lord.

The recently installed Doctor Who producer, John Nathan-Turner, had been the Production Unit Manager on...

Torvill and Dean's ice dancing format has never been the most glamorous of reality shows. It's never pulled in the biggest names (Tamara Beckwith, Elen Rivas, Bobby Davro) and it's always been in the shadow of its slicker, more stylish cousin over on BBC One, Strictly.

However, across its eight years the show has created many memorable TV moments and even if some of them are for the totally wrong reasons, Digital Spy is raising a toast to the series today by remembering them.

Jennifer Ellison gets sliced! We've got a bleeder!

Dancing on Ice has had many nasty injuries down the years - broken bones,...

The Joy of Six – review
A paranoiac Luke Treadaway and a pulp writer in decline star in the two standouts of this diverting half-dozen short films

A half-dozen shorts care of distributor Soda's New British Cinema programme, all diverting, two outstanding. The narrative-short food groups are amply covered: twist-in-the-tale jobs (Douglas Hart's Long Distance Information has splenetic Peter Mullan forming a surprising telephonic bond one Christmas), pun-films (Dan Sully's short, sweet urban legend The Ellington Kid; Romola Garai's straining Scrubber, about a woman juggling dogging with Ocd), zeitgeisty star vehicles (Chris Foggin's agreeably cosy Friend Request Pending, with Judi Dench as a lovelorn silver surfer). The picks are William Jewell's teasing, stylish feature-in-waiting Man in Fear, which conjures a fatalistic universe around paranoiac Luke Treadaway and no-nonsense copper Tim Healy; and Matthew Holness's A Gun for George, a tremendously assured, funny-sad portrait of a pulp writer in decline, which envelops...

"I have only good things to say about my marriage and just because Tim and I aren't 'in love' anymore, it doesn't mean we don't still love each other," she explained. "Why would I get rid of my ring? Tim and I were together for 24 years - we really tried to make things work and we've brought up two amazing children. "We were good friends, but we were getting to the point where we'd have lost our friendship if we kept the marriage going. We grew apart - the physical side (more)...
