  • He and Gary Graham were the only two actors who were permitted to audition for the role of Captain Janeway in Viaje a las estrellas: Voyager (1995).
  • He now claims to regret not moving to Hollywood after the success of Carros de fuego (1981).
  • His grandfather, Sir Cecil Havers, was the judge on the murder trial of Ruth Ellis, who was the last woman to be executed for murder in the UK.
  • His wife, Polly Williams, was ill with cancer for four years and died on 24 June 2004.
  • He considers the BBC miniseries of A Horseman Riding By (1978) to have been his big break, despite his previous starring role in the BBC's adaptation of Nicholas Nickleby (1977).
