Made a three-month research trip to the United States, visiting the Harry Ransom Center in Austin, Texas, and the Huntington Library in San Marino, California.
On filming in Australia: "There is something funny about Sydney. There
are no really old buildings, and there are no really old slums, which I
found interesting because there are so many in London."
