He is the second actor to play both Miguel de Cervantes y Saavedra and his creation, Don Quixote, on the big screen in El caballero Don Quijote (2002) and Miguel y William (2007). The only previous actor to play both roles is Peter O'Toole, who played both Cervantes and Quixote in the 1972 film version of the musical El hombre de La Mancha (1972).

He suffered an elaborate nervous breakdown during the filming of "The Call Of The Wild" (1973).

He studies in the Escuela Oficial de Cinematografia (Madrid). His debut was in 1966. He works also in theater and TV.
