Served in the United States Army during World War II where he was taken prisoner during the Battle Of The Bulge in late 1944.

Hosted two TV game shows for kids: "Just For Fun", which was seen Saturday mornings on WNEW TV Ch. 5 in NYC from Saturday October 3, 1959 to Saturday July 31, 1965 and "On Your Mark?", which was also seen Saturday mornings on both the ABC TV Network and on WNEW TV Ch. 5 in NYC, airing from Saturday September 23, 1961 to Saturday December 16, 1961.

After graduating from NYU he worked for Allen Funt as a producer for the radio program "Candid Microphone", the precursor to "Candid Camera.".

Graduated in 1947 from NYU with a bachelor's degree in television and radio production.

Sonny has four children: Christopher, Dana, Meredith and Tracy.

Made a brief cameo appearance as Shyster lawyer "Mr. Bailey" on the instructional TV special, "Plugged In", with Kathi Lee Gifford and Fred Willard. His daughter, Merdeth Fox Stewart, also worked on the TV special.

He was the son of Gertrude (Goldberg) and Julius A. Fox. His paternal grandparents were Russian Jewish immigrants, and his mother was an Austrian Jewish immigrant.

Father Julius was textile converter and his mother Gertrude was a theater ticket broker.

Wrote his autobiography "But You Made The Front Page! Wonderama, Wars, And A Whole Bunch Of Life" (2012).

Starting in 1992 he served as the chairman and then consultant for the Population Communications International which urged international broadcasters to develop programming to change people's attitudes towards family planning.

Graduated from James Madison High School in Brooklyn, New York.

In the mid-1970s he was NBC's Vice President of Children's Programming. He was responsible for overhauling the Saturday morning schedule for the 1977-1978 season.

He worked for three years at Voice of America, first as a reporter in the U.S. and then as a war correspondent in Korea.

Has seven grandchildren.
