After eight seasons of unabashed humor and explorations of adolescence, Netflix’s 'Big Mouth' concludes its groundbreaking run with an eighth and final season that balances its signature gross-out comedy with a reflective and heartfelt tone. Season eight ties up loose ends, elevates the show’s central themes, and pushes its characters to the brink of self-discovery while still delivering the laughs fans have come to expect. While the season still includes plenty of hormones and awkward firsts, season eight focuses more on how identity, friendship, and insecurity evolve as childhood gives way to the looming uncertainties of adulthood. The creators Nick Kroll, Andrew Goldberg, Jennifer Flackett, and Mark Levin continue to embrace the absurdity that has always been 'Big Mouth’s' trademark, but it also takes moments to slow down, breathe, and allow its characters to wrestle with more nuanced emotions. The result is a deeply satisfying farewell that...

The series presents a view of adolescence that is as accurate as it is rare.
There are some shows that I prefer to watch right away when a new episode debuts, and others that, for whatever reason, don’t prompt the same level of urgency. “Big Mouth” falls into the latter category; I’ve been a fan of the series for many years, but I don’t believe I’ve ever watched the show on its season premiere date. Season 8 of “Big Mouth” is no exception, and though I’m a few months late to the party, the show was nevertheless the best thing I watched this week.

Let’s start with the obvious: “Big Mouth” is hysterical. The show centers on a group of teens who are working their way through adolescence, and the group of imaginary critters that accompany them through this journey.

Big Mouth has ended its eight-season run, but fans of gross-out animated humor can rest easy, because the twisted minds behind the Emmy–nominated series are coming back to Netflix with an all-new show, Mating Season. Created by Mark Levin, Jennifer Flackett, Andrew Goldberg, and Nick Kroll and produced by Brutus Pink and with Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio and Ben Kalina serving as executive producers for Titmouse., this is going to satisfy all your post-Big Mouth comedy cravings.
While Big Mouth told the story of a crew of adolescents and their repulsive Hormone Monsters, the new series is set in the animal world, far away from Bridgeton Middle School. It follows a cast of bears, raccoons, deer, foxes and a host of other horny, lovable forest critters, as they navigate love, sexual relationships and the universal need to hook up and find a partner.

After eight years of monsters inspired by our feelings, tons of talking inanimate objects, a library of original songs that could fill a double-album, and so many quotations from Guy Bilzerian’s law commercials, Big Mouth has officially come to an end. The widely praised Netflix animated sitcom recently premiered its eighth and final season, but the question remains: Can it finally win the Emmy for Best Animated Program?
Big Mouth comes from the minds of Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg alongside Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett and centers on several kids in the Westchester suburbs of New York who are starting to hit puberty. The changes in their bodies are navigated and personified by a whole host of crazy characters that include hormone monsters, anxiety mosquitoes, shame wizards, and even the ghost of Duke Ellington. It wouldn’t be a Big Mouth gathering if someone from the Netflix animated series didn’t offer up an embarrassing sexual factoid from their own adolescent history. And it was Ayo Edebiri who took the prize during a post-screening Q&a session at the Egyptian Theatre for the show’s eighth and final season, revealing a roster of surprisingly eclectic childhood celebrity crushes.
Edebiri, who began as a writer on the show in its fourth season before taking over the role of Missy — and later becoming a breakout star as a writer, producer, and Emmy-winning actress on The Bear — rattled off a string of TV favorites that had captured her young fancy.
There was Tony Danza (“I used to have a big crush on him [from] Who’s the Boss reruns”), Tony Shalhoub, and The Famous Jett Jackson star Lee Thompson Young (“age-appropriate”). “And I liked John Ritter,” she added,...

The Bridgeton kids may have said farewell, but Nick Kroll isn't parting ways with the team behind Big Mouth just yet. Last month, Netflix announced that the co-creator and star of the platform's longest-running series would be back at the helm of a new animated show, Mating Season, with similarly raunchy themes. Set to premiere in 2026, it swaps the middle-to-high school setting for the great outdoors, following a cast of bears, raccoons, deer, foxes, and more creatures navigating the messiness of sexual relationships as they try to fulfill their desire to hook up. Moreover, it reunites Kroll with the same creative team, including his friend Andrew Goldberg, alongside Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett. With Season 8 of Big Mouth now officially behind him, he's ready to tease what the future holds in his new comedy.

When Nick Kroll, Andrew Goldberg, Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett first joined forces to create “Big Mouth,” they knew the Netflix show about puberty was going to get emotional. But none of them expected the series would become educational.
“We really learned along with the show,” Flackett told TheWrap in an interview that included all four creators. Flackett always expected “Big Mouth” would discuss periods, but it wasn’t until the team was working on the Season 1 episode “Girls Are Horny Too” that the potential for the animated comedy really clicked. To prepare for that episode, the writers all read Peggy Orenstein’s book “Girls & Sex.”
“[That episode] put something in focus for me because it was stuff I hadn’t talked about with my own daughter. It was really in talking to her about, ‘Do she and her friends masturbate?’ I realized,...

Spoiler Alert: The following piece contains spoilers for the series finale of “Big Mouth,” now streaming on Netflix.
It may surprise you to learn that “Big Mouth,” the Netflix animated series chronicling a group of teenagers’ physical and emotional maturation, concludes its eight-season run without one of its protagonists having sex. Then again, one of many lessons “Big Mouth” imparted to its viewership — some well past the travails of puberty, some just on their cusp — is that sex is an expansive idea. With Hormone Monsters, the show’s signature metaphor and comic creation, as their Virgils, the characters of “Big Mouth” have explored everything from oral sex to erotica to enough masturbation to make the entire premise a smirking play on “coming of age” even without more conventional congress. But in the end, all the gleeful obscenity took a backseat to the story’s true subject: the terrifying process of growing up.

Just when you think coming-of-age animated series “Big Mouth” on Netflix couldn’t be any raunchier, co-creator and star Nick Kroll reveals the time that he and his cohorts realized they probably went too far.
“Maury [Kroll] was allowed to have sex with the decapitated skull of Garrison Keillor, and this was before Keillor went down, mind you, and [Netflix] still let that go,” Kroll told me Thursday at the show’s series finale premiere at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. (Minnesota Public Radio cut ties with Keillor in 2017 after an investigation found he had engaged in dozens of sexually inappropriate incidents over many years.)
“But there’s another moment in that scene where…Rick takes a thermometer out of his sick little dick, and a little bit of blood spurts out,” Kroll laughed. “It’s the grossest thing. Netflix was like, ‘Could you maybe…’ and we were like, ‘Yeah, we saw.

Big Mouth, Netflix’s hit animated series following a group of friends navigating puberty, is coming to an end after eight seasons, following a rare model where its characters actually grow up.
“It is puberty and we really covered so much of what we set out to do and about this journey,” co-creator and star Nick Kroll told The Hollywood Reporter at the show’s Los Angeles premiere on Thursday of the decision to wrap up. “Most animated shows, they go on forever; people are frozen in whatever time they are in. Our show evolved and the kids evolved and they moved through time and they grew and they changed, and that was part of the joy of making the show.”
Co-creator Andrew Goldberg echoed that after working for over a decade on Family Guy, where those characters all stayed the same age, “I kind of assumed that our show would be the same.

Big Mouth is a rigorously researched, famously frank show about how a specific group of animated kids are surviving the ravages of puberty. How specific? Its co-creators include Andrew Goldberg and Nick Kroll, lifelong friends who decided not only to represent some of their real-life stories on screen, but to have them played out by fictionalized avatars of themselves.
Joining Kroll and Goldberg is another pair of creative partners who’ve remained off-screen: Jennifer Flackett and Mark Levin, married collaborators whose credits include the screenplays for Wimbledon and Journey to the Center of the Earth.
Though Hormone Monsters Maury (voice of Kroll) and Connie (Maya Rudolph) once memorably speculated that Flackett, Goldberg, Kroll and Levin are all married to each other (Maury: “Fucking Hollywood”), a conversation with Levin, Goldberg, and Flackett last week revealed no such arrangement. While we’re used to animated shows going on for years after they reach their peak. While The Simpsons, Family Guy, and South Park have shaped the cultural zeitgeist for generations, there’s something to be said for a show ending when it’s reached a natural stopping point. Big Mouth, Netflix’s long-running series about sex, puberty, and the awkward experiences of youth, closes its door after eight seasons. The Nick Kroll and John Mulaney-led show pushed the boundaries of what was acceptable on Netflix and still felt radically progressive about mental health. As it ends as one of Netflix’s longest-running shows, Big Mouth wraps up as only the sex comedy can: with a brash and obscene final season.

Big Mouth's Season 8 will include a growth spurt storyline for one of its biggest characters as the hit Netflix series comes to an end. The R-rated animated comedy from the minds of Andrew Goldberg, Nick Kroll, Mark Levin, and Jennifer Flackett has followed a band of hilarious preteens for seven seasons as they grapple with the ups and downs of puberty. This journey has included hormone monsters, sexual awakenings, and (of course) unexpected body changes.
As a part of the Big Mouth Season 8 trailer, it was revealed that Nick Kroll's Nick character will be getting a growth spurt in the upcoming final batch of episodes. For seven seasons, Nick has been seen as trailing behind some of the other kids developmentally, growing slower, and experiencing the horrors of puberty at a more gradual pace than his classmates, but that will all change in Season 8.

After exploring the pitfalls of puberty for eight seasons with the adult-animated series Big Mouth, the show’s creator, Nick Kroll, and his talented team will escape to the forest for a new show called Mating Season. Netflix has announced that the eighth and final season of Big Mouth will premiere globally on the streaming service on May 23, 2025.
In the 10-episode season, our beloved Bridgeton teens tackle new challenges as high schoolers, such as driving, drugs, sexual inexperience, enthusiastic consent, porn, and the teenage mind, cancel culture, their changing bodies, and (in the end) fear of the looming future.
Through it all, friendship is the cornerstone for surviving this time of life – whether one’s puberty is just beginning, like for Nick, who gets his first growth spurt, or near its conclusion, like for a maturing (and prematurely balding) Andrew.
At the height of the season, when many of our characters are in crisis, Compassion (personified as a new creature voiced by Holly Hunter) emerges as a crucial way forward. Ultimately, though, this season is about the importance of sticking by and supporting your friends, especially when life gets overwhelming and messy.

The animation company behind Big Mouthis setting out to make another sort of coming-of-age television series, but this time with a decidedly horrific bent. The company, Titmouse, is developing an animated series based on Image Comics' Nights, an ongoing comic currently releasing its second installment of adolescence, supernatural style.
In a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, it is said that the comic book's writer and artist — Wyatt Kennedy and Luigi Formisano, respectively — will be involved in the animation adaptation, and always envisioned the series as such rather than, say, something more live-action in nature. Titmouse hopes to keep and evoke the animation style of the comic's late '90s and early 2000s vibes, while also blending anime and indie influences as well. For those who may not be familiar, Titmouse is the home of such animated series as Legend of Vox Machina, The Venture Bros., Star Trek: Lower Decks,...

It is a year of big goodbyes for fans of Netflix shows. Two of the most popular shows on Netflix and across streamers, Stranger Things and Squid Game, are wrapping up in 2025. Fans will also miss other favorite shows like Cobra Kai which began streaming episodes of its final season in 2024.

Most of the shows in this list will leave with a proper ending. Hopefully, Netflix won’t cancel as many shows as it did in 2024. However, there is speculation among fans that shows like Fubar, The Recruit, and Supacell might get the axe from the streamer in 2025.
9. Cobra Kai
The last batch of episodes of the three-part Cobra Kai finale will drop on Netflix on February 13. The creators decided to split the sixth and final season of the series into three parts of five episodes each.

After the completion of the upcoming eighth and final season, "Big Mouth" will surpass "Grace & Frankie" and tie with "Elite" to become the longest-running Netflix Original scripted series in the streamer's history. The adult animated coming-of-age sitcom created by Andrew Goldberg, Nick Kroll, Mark Levin, and Jennifer Flackett was brought to life by the animation mavens at Titmouse, Inc., and tackles the peaks and problems of puberty through song, satire, and side-splitting humor. On the surface, "Big Mouth" might seem like the joke is nothing more than youngsters talking inappropriately about the birds and the bees, but there's a deep honesty to the way the series explores themes of sex, sexuality, hormones, shame, irrational fears, relationships, and growing up — even if a literal Hormone Monster is used to personify those big feelings.

Nick Kroll deserves an Emmy. If not for his contribution to the whip-smart writing and flat-out boldness of his long-running, raunchy yet tender, semi-autobiographical Netflix series, Big Mouth, then perhaps there’s a more compelling argument. The actor has been seen on some of the better small-screen comedy programs over the past 15 years and should win the medium’s top prize on sheer volume, as he voices a staggering 79 characters on the beloved adult animation series, which is set to conclude after eight seasons next year.
But don’t ask Kroll to name all 79 character voices he’s created for the show. In fact, speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, he explained how Netflix had to do some quick research and fact-check that figure ahead of this year’s Emmy voting, which started this week, now that he is throwing his hat in the ring for the outstanding character voice-over performance award.

Netflix Animation revealed a string of sneak peeks and new clips of its upcoming projects, including the return of villainous penguin Feathers McGraw in “Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl,” Wednesday at the Annecy Animation Festival.
“Wallace & Gromit” creator Nick Park was on hand with fellow Aardman director Merlin Crossingham to present a new clip from their upcoming feature “Vengeance Most Fowl.” Four-time Academy Award-winner Park also wrote the story, in which Gromit’s concern that Wallace is becoming too dependent on his inventions proves justified when Wallace invents a “smart” gnome that seems to develop a mind of its own. The movie also marks the return of Feathers McGraw, the sinister antagonist who first appeared in Park’s Oscar-winning 1993 short “The Wrong Trousers,” who is back on the loose.
