Following his feature film debut, I Trapped The Devil, Josh Lobo is back with a new tale of terror in Night After Night. This time, he’s tackling a film with a more sci-fi approach as two security guards confront a strange figure…

Last week, it was announced that Johnny Sibilly from Hacks joined the cast as one of the security guards. Alexis Louder (Violent Night), Trace Lysette (Monica), and Aj Bowen will also star in Night After Night alongside Scott Poythress (I Trapped The Devil).

The 26-year-old Euphoria and Cuckoo actress posed for photos as she arrived at the 2025 Vanity Fair Oscar Party held at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday (March 2) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

For the event, Hunter wowed in a low-cut, gold silk dress paired with a white black fur coat.

The season 2 finale of Euphoria aired in 2022, and season 3 was subject to production delays due to the busy schedule of the cast.

However, we now know who is departing the show, along with new actors who will be joining.

The 2025 Film Independent Spirit Awards — the top awards event for the independent film and television community — were handed out on Saturday from the beach in Santa Monica, Calif.

The ceremony, hosted by Saturday Night Live vet Aidy Bryant for the second year in the row, was streamed live on the IMDb and Film Independent YouTube channels at 5 pm Et, and across other social platforms.

Since 2012, Queerty has held the annual Queerty Awards, also known as the “Queerties.” Every March, fans and readers vote for their favorite people, shows, movies, and moments that celebrate LGBTQ+ media and culture.

The awards highlight the best in entertainment, activism, and representation within the community. Winners are chosen entirely by the public, making the Queerties a true reflection of what LGBTQ+ audiences love and support.

The nominations have been revealed for the 2025 GLAAD Media Awards, and one critically acclaimed LGBTQ+ film is notably absent from the pack of nominees.

The annual awards ceremony will return for a 36th year in 2025. According to GLAAD, it’s goal is to “recognize and honor fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of the LGBTQ community in an ever-expanding and media landscape.”

On Wednesday (January 22), the organization revealed the crop of nominees that would be honored at the ceremony. While projects such as Wicked and Queer were notably featured, Netflix’s Emilia Perez was left off the list.

The snub comes after GLAAD declared that the movie, which stars Zoe Saldana, Selena Gomez and trans actress Karla Sofia Gascon, was “not good trans representation” in a November 2024 essay. The story included reviews from transgender film critics and noted that “inauthentic portrayals of trans people are offensive and even dangerous.”

Wicked, Queer, Love Lies Bleeding, Mean Girls and My Old Ass are among the nominees in the outstanding film — wide theatrical release category.

Joining those three are Cuckoo, Drive-Away Dolls and Problemista.

GLAAD, the LGBTQ media advocacy organization, also announced nominees in TV, music, journalism, Broadway and podcast categories.

While the function and ethos of the trailer is the same as it ever was — to provide a first look at upcoming cinema releases, and sell the public on them by trying to promote their tone/premise/cast/etc. — there's no question that they've changed over the years from being endearingly idiosyncratic to being almost completely homogenous. After all, who isn't sick of hearing a slowed-down remix or cover version of a pop song stretched out over three minutes, intermittently broken up by dead air for punchy lines of dialogue and/or orchestra stings?

2024's Cuckoo is an unsettling and effective horror film that builds to a surprisingly bloody and emotionally resonant finale. Direct by Tilman Singer, Cuckoo focuses on Hunter Schafer's Gretchen, an average teenager forced to spend the summer with their estranged father, his wife, and her half-sibling Alma. Relocating to a remote resort in the German Alps, the scenic setting is given a sense of mysterious menace thanks to Dr. Köning and his polite but forceful control of the resort. However, mysteries surrounding the resort steadily unravel and endanger Gretchen, especially after she encounters a monstrous Woman with Red Eyes.

By the end of the film, Cuckoo has teased out the connection between Alma and the mysterious woman, as well as why Köning has been working so hard to keep the resort's secrets hidden from the rest of the world. However, there are enough lingering threads that a prospective sequel...

Film studio Neon's presence in the horror genre expands with Hunter Schafer's thriller, and there are a lot of factors when it comes to figuring out where to watch Cuckoo. After her breakout role in Euphoria, Schafer became a rising star attached to many projects in various-sized roles. Cuckoo is a major turning point for her as it marks her first leading role in a movie after smaller roles in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Kinds of Kindness. The Ritual poster has been revealed, giving the movie a release date and a first look. The Ritual is an upcoming horror movie from director David Midell, which tells the story of two priests from different backgrounds who must work together to perform an exorcism that will aim to help a possessed young woman. The Ritual features a leading cast including Al Pacino, Dan Stevens, Ashley Greene, Patricia Heaton, and Abigail Cowen.

XYZ Films has now revealed the poster for The Ritual. The grainy poster shows a look at the possessed woman in question, screaming. Nominations for the 2025 Independent Spirit Awards are in!

The awards show celebrates films budgeted at less than $30 million to produce and must be considered “independent.” There are also TV categories!

For the films, Anora and I Saw the TV Glow got six nominations each. Shogun got the most TV nominations with five total.

The show will take place on Saturday, February 22, 2025, with Aidy Bryant hosting.

Plot: Nothing is what it seems when a twisted one-night stand spirals into a serial killer’s vicious murder spree.

Review: I feel like I often say: stay away from spoilers for this movie for the most pure experience. And that’s very true with films like Cuckoo and Longlegs relying on the mystery for their narrative to succeed. Yet I’d say there’s no film more deserving of this “going in blind” approach than Strange Darling. I question what I’ll even be able to talk about but it would be a disservice to any potential viewer to not let them go on the same journey that I did. Because Strange Darling is one of the most unique and riveting films of the year. And it deserves to be experienced completely fresh.

Presented in six chapters and out of sequential order, the narrative is delivered in a very unique way.

Across 2024, Dan Stevens has been delivering performances that are increasingly… well, cuckoo. Whether dishing up gleefully gory carnage (and withering onion-based put-downs) in Abigail, or replacing kaiju canines as monster-dentist Trapper in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the former Downton heartthrob is in full embrace of the weird and wonderful. Offbeat horror Cuckoo continues that streak admirably. Here, he plays the seriously shifty Herr König, owner of a Bavarian holiday resort that simply emanates bad vibes. Whether menacingly invading people’s personal space (“Guten Tag!”), menacingly sniffing asparagus, or menacingly trilling a little wooden flute, it’s a delight to see Stevens in such playfully bonkers territory.

Except it’s only Hunter Schafer’s Gretchen who seems to clock how seriously off König is. In fact, the whole resort is odd. Guests keep throwing up. A weird signal is emitting from the nearby woods. A mysterious figure runs around in the dead of night.

Neon has picked up U.S. rights to Hell of a Summer, the horror comedy written and directed by Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) and Billy Bryk (When You Finish Saving the World) in their feature debut, from 30West. A release date has not yet been disclosed.

Starring Wolfhard, Bryk and Fred Hechinger (Gladiator 2), the film fully financed and exec produced by 30West follows 24-year-old camp counselor Jason Hochberg (Hechinger), who arrives at Camp Pineway thinking his biggest problem is that he feels out of touch with his teenage co-workers. What he doesn’t know is that a masked killer is lurking on the campgrounds, brutally picking counselors off one by one.

After three weeks atop the box-office weekend top ten, Deadpool & Wolverine was unseated by newcomer Alien: Romulus by $12.5 million.

In its first weekend of release, the horror film Alien: Romulus took control fo the weekend box office with an opening of $41.5 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Meanwhile, that studio’s second film in the top ten, Deadpool & Wolverine dropped to second place with $29.0 million after three weeks in the top spot. This gives the Walt Disney Studios Motion pictures product a four-week total of $545.8 million (so there probably isn’t too much sadness involved in giving up lead to another in-studio film). Also falling a spot was It Ends with Us which dropped to third place where it took in $24.0 million for Universal Pictures, bringing its two-week total to $97.8 million. Osgood Perkins’ breakout horror film Longlegs, starring Maika Monroe and an unrecognizable Nicolas Cage, has hit a major benchmark in crossing $100 million globally, the studio announced on Friday.

With a current cumulative gross of $72M in the U.S. and Canada, Longlegs is now Neon’s highest grossing film ever, not to mention this year. Pic is the top independent film release and the top grossing R-rated horror film of the year to date, and has gone further to cement itself as the highest grossing indie horror film of the last 10 years.

Written and directed by Perkins, Longlegs centers on Lee Harker (Monroe), an FBI Agent in pursuit of a serial killer, who uncovers a series of occult clues that she must solve to end his terrifying killing spree.

Pic’s producers included Dave Caplan of C2, Dan Kagan of Traffic, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones from Range, Cage for Saturn Films, and Chris Ferguson of Oddfellows.

BBC Studios has announced the titles coming to BritBox in September 2024, which include everything from new BritBox Originals to classic British fare. BritBox is a digital video subscription service offering the largest collection of British TV in the U.S. and Canada.

The September lineup features season two of the hit bomb squad drama Trigger Point, the fifth season of The Bay, and the third season of The Tower. True crime drama Des, starring BAFTA-winner David Tenant, will also be available.

With $54.2 million earned over the weekend, Deadpool & Wolverine held the number one spot of the top ten by a margin of $4.2 million. This gives the Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures product an overall total of $494.3 million. Meanwhile, Sony Pictures Releasing saw It Ends with Us debut in second place this weekend where it brought in $50.0 million for the studio. Last weekend’s second-place film, Universal Pictures’ Twisters dropped to third place where it brought in $15.0 million this weekend, lifting its four-week total to $222.3 million. In fourth place, the Lionsgate Films offering Borderlands debuted with $8.8 million to show for its first few days in release. Neon's newest independent movie, Cuckoo, is snazzy, subtle and terrifying. There are very few moments where viewers will jump out of their seats in shock, but the creepy feeling that something is following the protagonist, Gretchen (Blade Runner 2099's Hunter Schafer), is scary enough. When 17-year-old Gretchen moves to the German Alps with her emotionally distant family, she unintentionally wanders into a scheme involving a resort owner, Herr Knig (Dan Stevens).

Director and writer Tilman Singer doesn't rely on outrageous imagery to execute Cuckoo's plot, which ends up grounding the film as a relatable story with a metaphoric twist involving birds and human children. Review: 2024 has been the year of the well-marketed horror film. With Longlegs already blowing audiences away, now it’s Cuckoo’s turn to prove itself. Presented as less of a crime thriller and more of a “what the hell is happening?” mystery, Cuckoo isn’t afraid to get weird. And that’s often where horror can be the most interesting. Nine times out of ten, the unexplained is more terrifying than the truth, so there’s always a concern about a film expounding too much. I’m happy to report that the film manages to maintain its mystery.

Cuckoo filmmaker Tilman Singer knows what he wants. That confidence was apparent when his film school thesis project, Luz, received distribution in 2018, kicking off the German writer-director’s promising future. The 70-minute supernatural horror film was made with the most modest of resources, but Singer’s talent was so evident that you couldn’t help but imagine what he’d be able to do with a healthy budget. It may have taken six years, but the answer is now here in the form of Cuckoo, which may or may not be connected to Luz. Hunter Schafer’s main character in Singer’s genre-bending horror film is named Gretchen Vanderkurt, while Luz’s Julia Riedler played a character named Nora Vanderkurt.

As of this moment, Singer is choosing to remain tight-lipped about the potential relationship between his first two features.

If that sounds like something of a non-sequitir, that's because Cuckoo relies on keeping us on our toes and asking questions. The movie's atmospheric approach to horror sometimes works against it, but stellar performances from Dan Stevens and Schafer ultimately make it a home run.

Film festivals provide the opportunity to experience a wealth of incredible films that few people have heard of yet. With trailers often spoiling way too much in an effort to sell the film to an apathetic audience, going in blind is a luxury few can afford. This is why I encourage you to check out your local film festival and support independent filmmaking. Every year around July I start getting antsy because I know that Fantasia Film Festival is just around the corner. In years past we’ve seen some absolutely stellar entries. Hell, last year’s Red Rooms is still one of my favorite films of the decade and it’s yet it’s still under many people’s radar.

That’s the great thing about film festivals in general but Fantasia has the ability to bring about this feeling more often than not. Because their selection is always absolutely killer.
