Stage productions of "Peter Pan" have a tradition of casting the same actor as both Mr. Darling and Captain Hook. Conried played both roles in the Disney animated Walt Disney adaptation, becoming the first actor to play both roles on film.

Not only he served as the live models of Captain Hook and Mr. Darling in 'Peter Pan' (1953), Hans also served as the live model of Princess Aurora's father, King Stefan, in 'Sleeping Beauty' (1959), where he recorded some dialogues as Stefan before he was replaced by his 'Sleeping Beauty' costar, Taylor Holmes, for Stefan's voice role, which results in the unsolved voice mystery of King Stefan's majordomo and head messenger, Lord Duke. However, it may be assumed that because Duke speaks in a Mid Atlantic accent which was higher pitched, it can be inferred that Conried may have changed his pitch tone from normal to high to record at least few lines to voice Duke while using his normal pitch to do a test recording as King Stefan for the test demo recording that was not used in the final cut.

His physical appearance was the inspiration for the characters of Queen Uberta's butler and musician tutor, Lord Rogers in Richard Rich's ''The Swan Princess'' (1994; possibly) and for the villain in Disney's ''The Hunchback of Notre Dame'' (1996), Judge Claude Frollo.
