Performed his song "Yesterday When I Was Young" at Mickey Mantle's funeral (1995).

He was reportedly the highest paid country concert star between 1969 and 1971. In 1973, he was awarded "Entertainer of the Year" by the Country Music Association. In 1951 and 1952, he was the winner of the U.S. National Banjo championships.

He was brought up in Great Kills, Staten Island, New York.

He was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Recording at 6922 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California on February 12, 1975.

Had a string of hits from the early 1960s to the early 1980s, most notably "Come Live With Me" (No. 1 on Billboard magazine's country singles chart in 1973) and "Yesterday When I Was Young" (a Billboard top 10 country hit in 1969).

Clark played a Gibson Byrdland guitar designed by legendary Nashville guitar players Hank Garland and Billy Byrd.

Has three sons, two daughters, and four grandchildren.

Attended and graduated from Chamberlain Vocational High School in Washington, D.C. (1951).

On April 12, 2011, he was honored by the Oklahoma House of Representatives.

Passed away from complications from pneumonia at his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

He also played "Lili Marlene" for Capitol Records SM-2425 in Hollywood, California.

Inducted into the Cheyenne Frontier Days Hall of Fame (2007), the Country Music Hall of Fame (2009), and the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame (2011).

On August 22, 1987, he became a member of the Grand Ole Opry. He played an annual benefit concert at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia, the proceeds of which went to fund scholarships for aspiring musicians.
