‘On The Verge,’ ‘In Treatment’ ‘Germinal’ to Be Showcased in Colcoa’s TV Section (Exclusive)

Colcoa, the L.A.-based French film and series festival, has unveiled the television section of its upcoming 25th anniversary edition.

“In Treatment,” Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache’s French adaptation of the original Israeli series “BeTipul”; Julie Delpy’s series debut “On The Verge”; and “Germinal,” the 19th century-set ambitious period series adapted from Emile Zola’s masterpiece created by Julien Lilti (“Hippocrate”) are among the nine TV titles set to have their North American premiere at Colcoa.

The other series set to compete at Colcoa include “High Intellectual Potential” starring Audrey Fleurot (“Spiral”) as an intractable cleaning lady-turned-ace detective and “Nona and her Daughters,” co-written and directed by Valerie Donzelli (“Declaration of War”).

Set to take place Nov. 1-7 at the DGA, the festival will showcase 12 programs, including seven series, four TV movies and one documentary. The section is being backed by Titrafilm and has enlisted some of France’s top companies,...

The market premieres of Gaël Lépingle and Amro Hamzawi’s works shine bright in a line-up which will also provide sneak-peeks of Arthur Harari and Olivier Peyon’s feature films in post-production. Young, French talent is being showcased by the international sales division of the Parisian firm Le Pacte (steered by Jean Labadie) with two premières scheduled for the Cannes Film Festival’s Online Marché du Film (running 22-26 June). Chiefly set to be unveiled to buyers is Atomic Summer, the first feature film coming courtesy of Gaël Lépingle, described by its producer Nicolas Anthomé as a mix between a teen movie and a catastrophe film. The cast stars Shaïn Boumedine (Mektoub My Love : Canto Uno and Mektoub My Love : Intermezzo), Carmen Kassovitz, Théo Augier, Constantin Vidal and Manon Valentin. Written by the director in league with Pierre Chosson, the story centres around Victor, who’s around twenty years of age.

France’s Academy of Cinema Arts and Sciences unveiled the nominations for this year’s César Awards at its traditional news conference at Le Fouquet’s restaurant on the Champs Elysées on Friday morning.

Biopic Saint Laurent - exploring fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent’s life from 1967 to 1976 - led the pack with 10 nominations including best film, best director for Bonello, best actor for Gaspard Ulliel and best supporting actor for Louis Garrel.

The nominations for France's Lumière Awards were announced this morning, and leading the way was the film's Oscar foreign film entry "Saint Laurent" (which sadly didn't make it past the initial culling with the Academy). The film picked up four nominations and will compete for best film with Cannes hit "Girlhood," "La Famille Bélier," "Pas son genre," fellow Oscar foreign hopeful "Timbuktu" and "Three Hearts." Lionsgate Acquires U.S. Distribution to Blood Ties
Lionsgate has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Blood Ties from Worldview Entertainment. The film premiered at the 2013 Cannes Festival and the studio will release through its sister company Roadside Attractions. Directed by Guillaume Canet from a screenplay written by Canet and James Gray, the film is based on the screenplay "Les Liens du sang" by Jaques Maillot, Pierre Chosson, and Eric Veniard, and the novel "Deux Freres, un flic, un truand" by Michel and Bruno Papet. The film stars Clive Owen, Billy Crudup, Maroin Cotillard, Domenick Lombardozzi, Mila Kunis, Matthias Schoenaerts, Zoé Saldana and James Caan.
