When Norman Jewison was casting Hechizo de luna (1987), he contacted Sean Connery to ask if Chaliapin was able to speak and understand English. Connery told him, "Aye, he speaks English and French, but he'll steal every goddamn scene he's in. I don't know how he does it, but Fellini knew!".
