Glen Powell may be closing the door on ever joining the ranks of superpowered heroes in the Marvel or DC universes.

In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, the Top Gun: Maverick and Twisters star revealed he's not particularly drawn to roles that involve capes, cosmic powers, or mutant abilities.

“I just don’t identify with people with superpowers for the most part,” Powell explained, discussing what led him to take on the role of Richards in the upcoming remake of The Running Man. “I like the ordinary guy against extraordinary odds. The entire world is hunting this man, trying to kill him. Can he survive? Can he save his family? That’s a great, simple story.”

Powell's comments seem to dash fan hopes of seeing him play characters like Aquaman or Nova, popular choices in recent fancast discussions.

I don’t like the cinema of Wes Anderson. It reminds me of those disjointed incoherent self consciously capricious film-school projects where the student wants to let the world he doesn’t care a fig about the rules.

Continuing his flabbergasting quest for the crest of quirkiness, Wes Anderson has now come up with The Phoenician Scheme a film that rattles all rationale and stirs up a storm in a teacup. Like other Anderson oddities this one too is visualized in cartoonstrip colours, mostly pale green, and a mood of mythologized satire , which itself is problematic for any serious viewing.

A new image for Glen Powell's The Running Manhas been unveiled. Based on Stephen King's survival thriller of the same name, the upcoming movie adaptation sees Powell in a Squid Game-like plot, where he plays an ordinary man who enters a deadly televised game to win money to save his family.

Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme will begin streaming on Peacock on Certified Fresh on Friday, July 25.

That’s a 56-day theatrical window on par with the filmmaker’s previous Focus Features 2023 title Asteroid City‘s screen-to-Peacock premiere.

The Phoenician Scheme follows wealthy businessman Zsa-zsa Korda (Benicio del Toro) who is on the run and wanted by myriad governments, the target of scheming tycoons, foreign terrorists and determined assassins. In the midst of chaos he appoints his estranged and only daughter, a nun (Mia Threapleton), to be the sole heir of his estate. She also gets pulled into his globe trotting.

Mattel Studios is moving forward with a new Barbie film coming to theaters. The news comes two years after the company reached immense success with the release of Margot Robbie's Barbie.

Per Deadline, Illumination and Mattel Studios are teaming up to develop a new animated Barbie film. While there have been a variety of animated Barbie movies in the past, this will be the first time that one has ever been set for a theatrical release. Reportedly, Universal Pictures will distribute the new Barbie film. An exact release date has not yet been revealed.

The Phoenician Scheme is finally winding down its theatrical run after grossing $35 million at the worldwide box office, but the film just got easier for everyone to watch, even at home. Universal Pictures has officially announced that The Phoenician Scheme is now available to rent or purchase on digital platforms like Prime Video or Fandango at Home. To celebrate the news, Collider has even partnered with the studio to bring you an exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette showing director Wes Anderson sing the praises of leading star Benicio del Toro, and also explain how he settled on casting a relative newcomer among a roster of stars like Mia Threapleton. Greg Mottola's "Superbad" did R-rated comedy super good, becoming an instant classic on release in 2007. The insanely-quotable, super-raunchy follows the story of Evan (Michael Cera) and Seth (Jonah Hill), two high school seniors who are looking forward to one wild night of partying before they graduate. They're sex-obsessed, eager to drink as much as possible, and desperate to prove that they're as cool as their peers ... even though, c'mon, it's high school. No one's cool.

"Superbad" catapulted its leads to stardom, but the behind-the-scenes story of the movie was just as impactful on the comedy scene of that decade. Despite Harry Potter ultimately being a story about the dangers of prejudice, some "fans" have been unjustifiably angry at the reboot casting a Black actor as Professor Severus Snape.

While speaking with Collider during FanExpo in Denver, Harry Potter star Jason Isaacs discussed the online "racist" backlash when Paapa Essiedu was cast as Professor Snape in the reboot. Isaacs, who played Lucius Malfoy in the film franchisie, is not returning for the HBO series.

The Phoenician Scheme Struggles At The Box Office

The film has made $18 million in the US and added another $17 million from international markets, putting its global total at $36 million, per Box Office Mojo. It barely covers the costs of a production budget of $30 million.

Director Wes Anderson appeared to be in quite a comfortable position until some years ago. He’d make his inimitable movies on controlled budgets and deliver dependable results at the box office. But things changed after the pandemic, as they did for the entire industry. Only one of his three post-pandemic releases has managed to pass the $50 mark worldwide, and his latest, The Phoenician Scheme, is poised to conclude its run having fallen significantly short of expectations. In fact, the ensemble drama is his lowest-grossing film in nearly two decades.

With $18 million domestically and another $17 million from overseas markets, the film’s cumulative global haul currently stands at $35 million. Stephen King’s novel is a pretty dark affair. He even wrote it under the pseudonym of Richard Bachman, a pen name that allowed him to exercise a more cynical and nasty streak to his work. While that may yet prove to be the case with the final film, the first trailer is presented in a hyper-kinetic style with several signature Edgar Wright flourishes. The first trailer for The Running Man raced online earlier today, and Entertainment Weekly (via SFFGazette.com) has since caught up with filmmaker Edgar Wright and the movie's cast to learn more about what to expect from this latest adaptation of the Stephen King novel.

The site explains that the movie begins when Powell's unemployed construction worker, Ben Richards, is forced to enter a game show where contestants are tasked with surviving for as long as they can in an America where anyone is allowed to kill them. The game ends after 30 days, and the longer they survive, the more money they'll make.

The catch is, no one has made it that far because they're quickly taken down by a group of trackers and assassins called the Hunters.

Richards sets out to get the money he and his wife Sheila (Jayme Lawson) need for their sick daughter's medicine, making the stakes higher than ever.

The era of Glen Powell just keeps going, as the A-list actor stars in the new sci-fi film, The Running Man, based on a novel by Stephen King. Instead, it’s based more closely on the original 1982 novel by Stephen King, written under his pen name, Richard Bachman.

Glen Powell plays Ben Richards, the main character who ends up on a brutal game show where survival is the only way to win. Contestants get hunted down on live TV while the world watches. If they make it out alive, they get a big cash prize. But most don’t.
