Stop me if you've heard this one before: once upon a time, in the uncharted territories of deep space, a rag tag group of misfits joined forces to help the denizens of the galaxy resist a fascistic, oppressive peacekeeping force. These misfits are made up of a wisecracking man plucked from his home planet of Earth, a militaristic warrior woman upon whom he has a crush (and the feeling is mutual), a kooky alien with healing properties that even other aliens find bizarre, a muscular brute with a heart of gold, and a bitter little guy who appears to be completely selfish but, deep down, is fiercely loyal.
If you've already asked me to stop and said "those are the Guardians of the Galaxy," well hold your frelling horses, friend: I'm talking about the crew of Moya, the living ship, from the TV series "Farscape." The series, produced by the Jim Henson Company,...

Actor Ben Browder is truly no stranger to starring in science-fiction shows. In fact, he was in high demand for those roles in the early-to-mid aughts. Browder was particularly perfect on the series "Farscape" as John Crichton, an American astronaut who ends up going through a wormhole and finds himself surrounded by the universe's most ragtag group of aliens misfits on a living ship called the Moya. On "Farscape," which was designed by its creators to be the "anti-'Star Trek,'" Browder was both brash and boyishly charming, a kind of silly-but-smart 20th century Captain Kirk, and the team behind the "Stargate" franchise knew he was ideal for their newest spin-off, "Stargate: Atlantis." There was just one little (big) problem: he was a little busy filming the "Farscape" follow-up miniseries "The Peacekeeper Wars."
The "Stargate" creative team was so anxious to get Browder on "Atlantis" that he was almost cast as two different characters.

We live in an era where aliens, intergalactic travel, and superpowers are accepted in mainstream blockbusters, but this is honestly a somewhat recent phenomenon. Following its 10th season in 2007, "Stargate Sg-1" was cancelled by the Sci-Fi channel. A 10-season run is impressive, though, especially considering "Sg-1" was almost axed after season 8 to make way for another series. By season 8, star Richard Dean Anderson had decided to step away from his role as Jack O'Neill on "Sg-1," and a new series seemed like the way to go in his absence. A never-realized spin-off series, entitled "Stargate Command," would have seen Ben Browder's Colonel Cameron Mitchell and Beau Bridges' Major General Hank Landry lead an all-new show that incorporated elements of the original. Ultimately, however, the decision was made to continue with "Sg-1," and ideas for "Command" were integrated into the show's final two seasons. But this wouldn't be the first time "Sg-1" writers pivoted from their original plans.
Throughout the series' 10-year run, there were multiple changes and last-minute decisions made that altered the course of the show.

Tony Todd, prolific actor and horror icon, passed away in 2024, leaving behind an impressive filmography full of memorable roles. Beginning with his first real Hollywood role as Sergeant Warren in Oliver Stone's Oscar-winning "Platoon," Todd then began his journey towards becoming a horror legend by playing Ben in Tom Savini's "Night of the Living Dead" remake — a major milestone on his path to playing the titular "Candyman" in Bernard Rose's celebrated 1992 supernatural horror film. He'd continue his run as a staple of the horror genre after that, ultimately becoming the personification of Death in the "Final Destination" film series.
But horror wasn't the only genre that Todd became known for. The imposing, six-foot five-inch star also made a name for himself in beloved sci-fi series, playing Kurn, the Klingon brother of Worf in both "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and "Deep Space Nine." In fact, Todd once...

All four seasons of Farscape are filled with colorful and compelling characters, but certain figures stand out among the rest in the sprawling fictitious universe. Running between 1999 and 2003, Farscape was one of the most underappreciated sci-fi shows but is still championed by its devoted fan base. Farscape put a fresh spin on overused sci-fi tropes while also staying true to its space opera label. Although there were several reasons the show is so enjoyable, the chemistry that exists between the various members of the Farscape cast is one of the biggest factors.
Farscape centers around Ben Browder's John Crichton, an astronaut who has been flung to a distant part of space and stranded there. The show chronicles Crichton's attempts to return to Earth, but the task is very often shelved in favor of trying to survive alongside his newfound family. If any sole character can be described as the heart of Farscape, it would have to be Aeryn Sun. Ben Browder's John Crichton character may have been the leading man, but Aeryn Sun, played by Claudia Black, was the show's centerpiece. Her redemption arc ranks among the best in the sci-fi genre, proving to be a constant anchor for stories throughout the franchise.
Aeryn's character arc is officially completed in Farscape #24 by Rockne O'Bannon, Keith R.A. DeCandido, and Will Sliney. Farscape's abrupt cancelation in 2003 put a roadblock to the development that Aeryn and the rest of the cast were going through, forcing the creators to settle on wrapping the series in the Peacekeeper Wars miniseries. Thankfully, Boom! Studios swooped in for a canonical continuation, ending with this issue.

When Gene Roddenberry first created Star Trek, The Original Series was not a hit. It wasn't until the show hit syndication that it found a second life and spawned two new waves of series and a massive feature film franchise. Since then, many other producers and storytellers have tried to create the next Star Trek, but they were doomed to fail. Some haven't aged well and never made it beyond a single season. Others were unquestionably successful shows, running for more than 100 episodes, spawning spinoffs and companion films.
Though some of these shows have extremely passionate fans, none of them reached the heights that Star Trek did nor are they as bankable a storytelling universe. In its sixth decade, Star Trek is likely Paramount's most profitable franchise and the studio continues to develop new series and films set in that universe. While every series has its merits and is beloved by some fans,...

Stargate Sg-1 follows a top-secret military operation that explores the galaxy via the Stargate. It creates wormholes that lead to other planets and dangerous enemies. The series was a continuation of the 1994 film Stargate, starring Kurt Russell and James Spader. Stargate Sg-1 ran for ten years, making it one of the longest-running sci-fi shows ever; it also had spin-off series and direct-to-dvd movies after the show ended in 2007.
With 10 seasons under its belt, Stargate Sg-1 had its ups and downs. It moved networks, went through major cast changes, and traversed all sorts of alien planets. The series is still arguably one of the best sci-fi shows of all time, but not all the seasons are equal. The best ones balance action, adventure, humor and meaningful storytelling.
Season 9 Tried to Do Too Much Aired in 2005 With 20 Episodes
Season nine of Stargate Sg-1 had a tough job to do following season eight.

Kurt Russell delivered an unforgettable performance as Colonel Jack ONeill in the 1994 sci-fi blockbuster movie, Stargate, but he chose not to make an appearance in its follow-up TV series. Directed by Roland Emmerich, the movie was an adventure of sorts that featured a unique premise about an ancient portal connecting Earth to distant worlds. Russells character, crucial to the movie, was a hardened military man with a skeptical attitude; he led the expedition and braved a desert landscape filled with unknown dangers. The first entry in the Stargate universe, it was a box office success, grossing nearly $200 million worldwide.
The popularity of Stargate led to the creation of the TV series Stargate Sg-1, which premiered in 1997. The show expanded on the movies concept and saw the central team of military personnel and scientists as they continued voyaging through the Stargate to explore various planets and fight alien threats. While not exactly manual labor, acting can be quite physically strenuous, including for actors working in television. From the long working hours to arduous stunts and strain on mental health, television acting is hard work. These working conditions can occasionally lead to the performers becoming physically ill from their experiences, sometimes affecting the actors for the rest of their lives. In fact, some of the most iconic TV shows in the history of the medium have had notable instances where their actors have become sick from the experience.

On March 19, 1999, viewers were introduced to the world of Farscape, a science fiction series inhabited by strange aliens on the other side of the universe. Produced by The Henson Company, Farscape continued the company's celebrated history of creating a magical world peopled with both humans and puppets. Ahead of its time, the series challenged the norms of '90s television by introducing more serialized storytelling and upended many of the common tropes of the time. Now celebrating its 25th anniversary, Farscape's impact can be found across science fiction storytelling, with a notable impact on massive blockbusters like the Guardians of the Galaxy series.
Set in the uncharted territories, Farscape begins on Earth with John Crichton (Ben Browder) in the middle of an experiment when an anomaly thrusts his spacecraft through a wormhole.

March will soon mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of the beloved sci-fi television series, Farscape. With the anniversary of the show's debut on the former Sci-Fi Channel, it's a good time to revisit what made this grand epic such a beloved and enduring favorite that's still remembered to this day. Farscape featured an excellent cast, not to mention amazing visual effects and creature puppetry by The Jim Henson Company. However, what truly set Farscape apart were the charismatic performance of Ben Browder's John Crichton, Aeryn Sun (Claudia Black) and Crichton's whirlwind romance, and the nonhuman and alien creatures as effervescent three-dimensional personalities.

Farscape was a unique sci-fi show with simple elements that made a strong impression. Farscape follows John Crichton, a Han Solo-like leader who commands a ship into unknown dangers. Farscape's aliens, made by Jim Henson's Creature Shop, still hold up in a series far ahead of its time.
The late Jim Henson believed that puppets could tell adult as well as children's stories. But while he made a few moves in that direction -- notably with projects like Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal -- he died before he could fully realize it. However, his son Brian took the ball and ran with it, joining forces with TV veteran Rockne S. O'Bannon to create Farscape. The show first premiered in 1999 and looked like nothing else in sci-fi. With the Star Wars and Star Trek franchises sticking resolutely to formula and new arrivals like The Matrix shying away from space opera,...

In Aug. 2017 -- a few months after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. had become a massive hit for the Marvel Cinematic Universe -- director James Gunn posted an Instagram photo showing him and actor Ben Browder behind the scenes on the film. Browder had previously starred in Farscape, the cult classic series that ran from 1999 through 2003. In the post, Gunn confirmed the series as "one of my favorite sci-fi shows of all time," and that Browder's appearance was a way for the Guardians movies to acknowledge the creative connection.
It goes more than skin deep. With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 presumably closing out this corner of the MCU, it's more apparent than ever just how much Farscape has inspired Gunn's work on the Guardians movies. Between Star Trek and Star Wars, there isn't much room for modern space opera to carve out its own identity. Farscape managed it,...

As the lead couple of Farscape, John Crichton (Ben Browder) and Aeryn Sun (Claudia Black) were featured in a love story as memorable as the science fiction series it took place in. In a new exclusive clip from The Farscape Fandemonium Marathon, executive producers of the show, Brian Henson and Rockne O'Bannon discuss the chemistry between the two stars, as they are interviewed by Adam Savage during the upcoming special presentation. The pair explained how the relationship came to be in an industry where showrunners were advised not to put their leads together, opting for the tension between them to keep audiences hooked to programming.

Prior to being named as the new creative head of the Dcu, James Gunn changed the future of the MCU with his outrageous, creative style in the Guardians of the Galaxy films. While the spacebound adventures were certainly popular among loyal fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they shared some qualities with Gunn’s past films in their sharp cultural references and offbeat humor. To emphasize that point, both of the Guardians of the Galaxy films featured surprising cameos from some of Gunn’s frequent co-stars and friends, including Nathan Fillion, Seth Green, Lloyd Kaufman, Tyler Bates, Maria Bakalova, Ben Browder, Molly Quinn, and David Hasselhoff among others. However, one voice you may have been surprised to hear in the MCU is that of cult filmmaker and musician Rob Zombie.

The hunt for the legendary Bigfoot continues to inspire filmmakers and storytellers and we’ve got a trailer for a new film for you to check out today called Hoax.
The film follows a team who travels “deep into the wilderness after a group of young campers are viciously murdered and linked to Bigfoot. The highly specialized crew search for evidence and fight to survive the powerful beast. If they work together they may live to prove the existence of bigfoot, but what they discover may be more unexpected and dangerous than anything they could have imagined.”
Bigfoot is out for blood, though, and primed to kill anyone who comes after him. The horror film actually looks like it could be pretty brutal. This could end up being a surprisingly good film!

Ben Browder's film Bad Kids of Crestview Academy starts with a bang, with a Swat-team storming a school. The policemen find mutilated bodies, a crashed Porsche, and a schoolgirl who literally opens fire on them (pun intended: she uses a flamethrower). Flashback to 8 hours earlier, when said schoolgirl arrived at Crestview Academy for a day of detention, together with four spoilt-rotten-rich kids. So what the hell happened in those eight hours? That mystery, in short, is the motor which keeps the film moving. And it's unfortunate that it runs out of gas a little too fast, because up to the third act there is actually a lot of fun to be had. Bad Kids of Crestview Academy is the sequel to Matthew Spradlin's 2012...

You all remember 2012’s comic adaptation of Bad Kids Go To Hell, right? Probably not. Most seem to have missed Matthew Spradlin’s under-the-radar private school thriller, but – nevertheless – Ben Browder makes his directorial debut with the film’s follow-up sequel, Bad Kids Of Crestview Academy. Once again, a handful of rebellious, not-so-angelic students find themselves serving a deadly detention sentence where anything goes. Sex, drugs and adorable kitten videos – these kids are anarchists to the core, soaked in spoiled-teens-so-rotten-you-want-them-dead appeal. Welcome back to creator Barry Wernick’s educational house of horrors, just don’t mind the stripped-down nature of this barebones continuation.

New Mexico in the late 19th century, as shown in Jt Mollner’s “Outlaws and Angels,” is a land where zealotry and hypocrisy go hand and hand, where Thomas Hobbes’ “nasty, brutish and short” characterization of human nature guides every interpersonal relationship. While that may not be an inaccurate characterization of what small-town life was like in the American Southwest during the Cleveland administration, “Outlaws and Angels” overestimates its own elegance, delivering a misguided ode to frontier ugliness.
Fittingly, “Outlaws and Angels” opens with a bloodbath, a bank heist gone wrong that leaves a Us Marshall dead. The gang responsible for the crime, armed by ringleader Henry (Chad Michael Murray) and laden with the fruits of their labor, quickly seek refuge from their newly-earned bounty. Like a heavy Southern drawl that lazily meanders through conversation, Outlaws And Angels drags its scenes far longer than contextually necessary. Imagine a Southerner leaking “Hooowwwwdddyyy folkssssss!” like a deflating balloon instead of clear, concise dictation (“Howdy!” and done).
