Was approached to direct El vengador del futuro (1990) in 1983 by the Ladd Company. Was approached to direct a remake of "The Killer" in 1994 by TriStar Pictures.

Originally lined up to direct Laird Hamilton as He-Man in the sequel to He-Man y los amos del universo (1987) (to be filmed back to back with Cannon Pictures' aborted version of "Spider-Man"), but financial difficulties with Cannon caused the film to be canned, with the remaining sets and props being used in Cyborg: el guerrero (1989) with Jean-Claude Van Damme.

Was originally attached to direct a futuristic version of Treasure Island in the late 1990s with Christopher Lambert and Tia Carrere starring.

In 2014, Albert Pyun married writer and producer Cynthia Curnan. They had been relationship since 1997.
