Mark Wahlberg is making a grand comeback to the small screen in Peacock’s Ted: The Animated Series, a spinoff of the commercially successful movie franchise as well as the prequel series. According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, the actor has been confirmed to reprise the role of John Bennet in a voice role.

Wahlberg was asked to return for the Peacock TV series, but due to his hectic schedule, the network ultimately decided to create a prequel show with a new cast.

The actor has not been seen on any scripted television shows since 1993, when he starred in the television drama The Substitute and made cameo appearances in The Ben Stiller Show and Out All Night. Since then, the former rapper-turned-actor has only appeared as himself on several variety shows.

“You know, there hadn’t ever really been any serious talks about doing a Ted 3,” franchise creator Seth MacFarlane previously told TVLine. “After Ted 2, we weren’t sure if there was still an insatiable appetite for more Ted, and that coincided with my desire to go do The Orville. So, it kind of ceased to be a part of the conversation for a while.”

Peacock has given a series order to “Ted: The Animated Series,” the working title for an animated spinoff of the 2012 and 2015 live-action comedy film franchise created and directed by Seth MacFarlane, who starred with Mark Wahlberg.

The order further expands the franchise following the success of “Ted,” Peacock’s live-action prequel series.

MacFarlane of course will voice Ted, the foul-mouthed, magical talking teddy bear at the center of the story, with Wahlberg providing the voice of Ted’s human companion, John Bennett.

Also returning from the original films are Amanda Seyfried as John’s girlfriend, Sam Jackson, and Jessica Barth as Ted’s wife, Tami-Lynn.

"I honestly couldn't tell you at this point. I know people are really going to love it. And that gives me some hope for season two, for sure," the actor — who plays a teenage version of Mark Wahlberg's John Bennett from the Ted films — told The Direct. "But I haven't heard anything either way yet. But I would love if the opportunity came around where I could come back to this character with these people it would be perfect."
