Ted White’s son shares a fun story from the set of Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter
Kevin Bacon, Adrienne King, Ari Lehman, Robbi Morgan, Betsy Palmer, and Jeannine Taylor in Viernes 13 (1980)
One of my favorite entries in my favorite franchise, the Friday the 13th sequel Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter features stuntman Ted White as the hockey-masked horror icon Jason Voorhees, and he is widely considered to be one of the best Jason performers in the entire series. Sadly, White passed away in 2022 at the age of 96 – but well before he passed away, he provided the foreword for his son Michael Bayouth’s memoir In the Shadows of Giants: True Stories From The Son of a Hollywood Stuntman, which is available for purchase at This Link. To promote the book, Bayouth recently shared an excerpt that tells a fun story from the set of Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. You can check it out below.

Directed by Joseph Zito from a screenplay by Barney Cohen (with Bruce Hidemi Sakow receiving story credit), Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter has...

The Bold And The Beautiful Spoilers: Finn May Be Luna’s Father, But Is He Jack’s Son-No DNA Match?
Image
The Bold and The Beautiful spoilers and rumors tease even if John “Finn” Finnegan (Tanner Novlan) does turn out to be Luna Nozawa’s (Lisa Yamada) father, there’s still something off.

If Finn is truly Jack Finnegan’s (Ted King) father, and Luna is truly Finn’s daughter, then Jack’s DNA should have matched Luna’s partially-and it didn’t!

The Bold And The Beautiful Spoilers – Did Sheila Carter Sharpe Pull A Fast One?

Finn’s backstory is that Sheila Carter Sharpe (Kimberlin Brown) had an affair with Jack, and became pregnant with Finn, and she and Jack faked an adoption.

Jack had to pay off Sheila for all those years not to come looking for Finn and never to come looking for him for more money.

Li was not able to become pregnant and so this was an answer to prayer for her-at least, it was until it wasn’t,...

Jason Voorhees will soon be resurfacing at Crystal Lake. The fourth installment of the masked murderer's movie series, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, is coming back to theaters to mark the slasher sequel's 40th anniversary.

Per Fangoria and Paramount Scares, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter will be returning to select theaters for a limited time on Sept. 10 and Sept. 15. Kevin Brophy, Star of ‘Lucan’ and ‘Hell Night,’ Dies at 70
Image
Kevin Brophy, who starred as a young man raised by wolves on the short-lived ABC series Lucan and as the doomed leader of a college fraternity in the cult horror film Hell Night, has died. He was 70.

Brophy died May 11 at his home in Rancho Santa Fe, California, his family announced. He was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer 10 years ago, they said.

On 1977-78’s Lucan, his first professional acting job, Brophy portrayed a 20-year-old man who spent the first 10 years of his life with wolves in the forests of Minnesota before he’s brought into society.

His character possessed wolf-like superpowers like strength, agility and heightened senses of smell and hearing, and when angry, his eyes glowed amber.

When he got the part, Brophy asked himself, “What does a boy raised by wolves do?” he recalled in December in an interview for the Happy Horror Time podcast. “I came to...

Erich Anderson dies at the age of 67 after "a brutal struggle with cancer." Anderson is best known by genre fans for his portrayal of Rob Dier in director Joseph Zito's Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984). Anderson was a prolific television and film actor who appeared in Star Trek: The Next Generation, Felicity, NYPD Blue, Thirtysomething and dozens upon dozens of projects over his illustrious 40-year career.

67-year-old Friday the 13th, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Felicity and NYPD Blue actor Erich Anderson has died of cancer. Andersons wife, actress Saxton Trainor, revealed her husband passed away via social media on June 1. Louis Gossett Jr, the star of An Officer and a Gentleman and Iron Eagle, dead at 87
Image
Well, this is a bummer. The great Louis Gossett Jr., star of An Officer and a Gentleman, Roots, Diggstown, Jaws 3D, Iron Eagle, and so many more classics, has died at age 87. According to his obit in THR, no cause of death was immediately revealed, but the actor was treated for prostate cancer in 2010, and also battled Covid-19 back in 2020.

If you grew up in the eighties and nineties, Louis Gossett Jr was one of those faces you saw everywhere. He was in high demand as a character actor, winning an Oscar for playing Richard Gere’s tough but compassionate drill instructor in An Officer and a Gentleman. If you haven’t seen that movie in a while or remember it as a sappy romantic drama, I’d urge you to watch it again. It’s actually a pretty gritty, R-rated drama, and it climaxes with a nifty martial arts battle between Gossett and Gere,...

Louis Gossett Jr., Star of ‘An Officer and a Gentleman’ and ‘Roots,’ Dies at 87
Image
Louis Gossett Jr., the tough guy with a sensitive side who won an Oscar for his portrayal of a steely sergeant in An Officer and a Gentleman and an Emmy for his performance as a compassionate slave in the landmark miniseries Roots, has died. He was 87.

Gossett’s nephew told the Associated Press that the actor died Thursday night in Santa Monica. The cause of death is unknown, but Gossett announced in 2010 that he had prostate cancer.

With his sleek, bald pate and athlete’s physique, Gossett was intimidating in a wide array of no-nonsense roles, most notably in Taylor Hackford’s Officer and a Gentleman (1982), where as Gunnery Sgt. Emil Foley he rides Richard Gere’s character mercilessly (but for his own good) at an officer candidate school and gets into a memorable martial arts fight.

He was the second Black man to win an acting Oscar, following Sidney Poitier in 1964.

For the role,...

Why Tom Cruise is the World’s Most Enduring Film Star
Image
Tom Cruise graduated from Glen Ridge High School, in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, in 1980. In 1983, Cruise, in only his fifth screen appearance, achieved film stardom with his memorable performance as industrious high school senior Joel Goodsen in the iconic comedy-drama film Risky Business.

In 1986, Cruise, of course, reached superstardom with his starring role in the hit action drama film Top Gun. By the end of the 1980s, Cruise was arguably, the number-one film star in the world. While the ensuing decades have certainly brought some ups and downs for Cruise, he has nonetheless navigated every phase of his career with relative ease and emerged unblemished and victorious.

Indeed, now in his sixties, a period in which most film superstars, such as Harrison Ford and Kevin Costner, have to accept severe changes to their careers, Cruise seems to be more popular than ever, as evidenced by the blockbuster success of his most recent film,...

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter steelbook Blu-ray release coming in January
Image
For the last few years, Paramount has been giving the Friday the 13th movies they released in the 1980s 40th anniversary steelbook Blu-ray releases. The original Friday the 13th got its steelbook release in 2020, and you can pick that up Here. Friday the 13th Part 2 got its steelbook release in 2021, and you can buy that one at This Link. Friday the 13th Part III followed its predecessors in 2022, and you can get that steelbook Here. There was no Friday the 13th movie released in 1983, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter didn’t come along until ’84, so I was wondering if Paramount was going to wait an extra year to release a steelbook for that one… and the answer is no. Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter is getting a steelbook Blu-ray release for its 39th anniversary, and it’s already available for pre-order on Amazon!

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984) Revisited – Horror Movie Review
Martes 13: Capítulo final (1984)
Released in 1984, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (watch it Here) has one of the most inaccurate titles ever… which is easy to forgive when the movie also happens to be one of the best slashers ever made. Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter is also the focus of the latest episode of our video series Real Slashers, which you can watch in the embed above!

Directed by Joseph Zito from a screenplay by Barney Cohen (with Bruce Hidemi Sakow receiving story credit), Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter has the following synopsis:

The body count continues in this vivid thriller, the fourth — and final? — story in the widely successful Friday the 13th series. Image
Andy Canny scooped Best Editing in a Feature Drama for The Invisible Man at the 2020 Ellie Awards yesterday, backing up his recent Aacta win.

Geoff Lamb took home Best Editing in Drama for The Commons, and Deborah Peart Best Editing in Comedy for Upright.

The annual awards, presented by Australian Screen Editors (Ase), were held online this year due to Covid, hosted by comedian Steph Tisdell.

In addition to the celebrations, the event also saw Ase president Fiona Strain announce after five years at the helm that she will be handing the reins to vice-president Danielle Boesenberg from February.

“She has been a calm, intelligent presence in the executive committee and will bring thoughtfulness and a commitment to diversity as we serve a very wide a range of members from students through assistants and others who have been in the industry over 40 years,” Strain told If.

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter
Derek Mears in Viernes 13 (2009)
Happy Friday the 13th, Campers! It’s time to talk about the high water mark of the Friday the 13th saga, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984), the action-packed fourth entry that was decidedly not the final chapter of this twelve-part (so far) series. Reader beware: this review is not devoid of spoilers, though this writer tries to maintain a few surprises for the uninitiated.

After Friday the 13th: Part III (1982) took terror into the third dimension, Final Chapter was able to capitalize on the best elements of its predecessors while smoothing out some of their storytelling hiccups. Final Chapter ports over the basic setup of Friday the 13th: Part II (1981) and Part III: Tormented former New Jersey summer camp attendee Jason Voorhees (Ted White this time around), wreaks belated vengeance on the same camp’s next generation of counselors. In the original Friday the 13th (1980), a surprising different...

Olivier Awards Rename Prize After Peter Hall Following ‘In Memoriam’ Blunder
Organizers of the Oliver Awards, Britain’s equivalent of the Tonys, apologized “unreservedly” Tuesday for omitting theater legend Peter Hall from the awards ceremony’s “In Memoriam” segment last weekend and said the prize for best director would henceforth be named after him.

The Society of London Theatre, which organizes the Oliviers, came under heavy criticism for what it acknowledged was a “serious error” in leaving out Hall from the roll call of prominent industry figures who died in 2017. Hall, who won two Tony Awards and founded the Royal Shakespeare Company, died last September at the age of 86.

The Society of London Theatre said Hall “was a giant of British theater and is sorely missed in the industry.” It has also issued an updated “In Memoriam” video including him.

“In recognition of Sir Peter’s phenomenal contribution to British theater over many decades, and in close consultation with the Hall family,...

Watch an Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes Clip from Scream Factory’s Hell Night Collector’s Edition Blu-ray / DVD

With the 1981 horror film coming out soon on a Collector's Edition Blu-ray / DVD with a new 4K scan from Scream Factory, we've been provided with an exclusive behind-the-scenes clip to share as a special treat for Daily Dead readers.

In the behind-the-scenes clip below, Barton reflects on a humorous time when it was difficult for him to maintain a straight face during filming, and he also talks about the high level of energy that goes into a performance when actors are playing characters who are fighting for (or fear for) their lives.

Scream Factory's Hell Night Collector's Edition Blu-ray / DVD will be released on January 2nd, 2018, and we have a look at the full list of special features...

13 Reasons Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter Was So Lucky
Tony Sokol Apr 13, 2019

Jason Voorhees lost his head, but got a stay of execution in Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter.

Friday the 13th has been considered unlucky since October 1307 when King Philip IV of France ordered the executions of all of the Knights Templars because God was “not pleased.” It was a bloody beginning to a long tradition.

But not every Friday the Thirteenth is unfortunate, no matter how much blood gets spilled. For example, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter was very lucky.

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter was supposed to close the franchise begun by the 1980 low budget proto-slasher movie Friday the 13th, which was directed by Sean S. Cunningham, written by Victor Miller and was separated by no degrees from Kevin Bacon. But it wasn’t so lucky. The son of a bitch gave us something to remember him by.

The 1984 sequel (the fourth in...

Your 2013 Halloween Season TV Preview (abridged) with Schedules
Last year we ran a schedule of every TV/Cable network schedule we could find that could be construed as Horror or Halloween related for the month of October. Let’s just say it proved useful for our readers and even for our staff when they were looking to find something to watch, wanted to program their DVR’s or didn’t want to miss out on some great “live” Horror. Isn’t there something about having a movie fed to you on TV as opposed to watching it on Blu-ray or DVD or streaming? We may not like commercials, but the randomness that you can associate with a TV program itinerary is novel. It removes a little bit of control from the audience who is all to concerned with being in control these days (just look at the reasons behind publishing a piece like this).

So here’s the 2013 Halloween Seasonal TV Preview,...

Friday the 13th - Jason's Top 13 Horniest Kills
In the world of Friday the 13th, “Death and Sex” replaces the old “Death and Taxes” adage with endless reliability. Jason’s always on the prowl for more victims, and what better way for him to pad his numbers than by catching folks not only amidst the throes of passion but also in their euphoric comedowns?

In honor of this week's Friday the 13th, presented here for your, uh, pleasure are the 13 horniest kills in Friday the 13th history. That is to say, the top kills built around sexual machinations in one way or another. So please slide on a rubber, stay safe and give this a read!

13. Here’s one for the both of you! (Friday the 13th Part 2)

This fan favorite was obviously going to wind up on this list. By now everyone knows this infamous dispatch of two ‘counselors in training’ was curbed from Mario Bava...

How Birdsong creates a replica of first world war's tunnels
Expert archaeologist helped drama producers make exact model of underground network

The horrors of tunnel warfare are key to Sebastian Faulks's first world war novel, Birdsong. Much of the action is set beneath no man's land in a terrifying world where soldiers dug, listened for the enemy and laid explosives in the hope of helping their compatriots above ground.

To create a realistic portrayal of this deadly underground battle for the book's television adaptation, the producers built an accurate replica of part of the vast network of tunnels. They believe this is the first time this has been attempted.

The detailed reconstruction was aided by Peter Barton, a first world war archaeologist and historical writer, who has made the subject his life's work. Barton, employed as a consultant on the drama – judged too difficult to film for years – supplied Birdsong's director, Philip Martin, with scale drawings and plans from his excavations.

Happy Friday the 13th - The Many Guises of Jason Voorhees
Jason Voorhees is a household name, there’s no arguing. Everyone may be familiar with the summer camp slasher’s iconic look as far as the hockey mask goes, but it’s a lot harder to find a definitive consensus on Mr. Voorhees’ most successful incarnation. It changes as often as the weather, and much more dramatically, to boot.

So we’re taking another look back at Friday the 13th - this time from the perspective of our main man’s getups from the past thirty years. Like any enduring movie monster, he’s had his ups and downs. Moments we love and others we’d like to forget. From mongoloid Jason to that mongoloid remake, we’ll leave no face unmasked as we travel the bumpy road of my own personal favorite movie villain in the hopes of documenting what worked, and what didn’t. Which movies got it right,...

Blu Room: I Am Number Four Blu-Ray/DVD Combo Pack
I Am Number Four (Blu-Ray/DVD Combo Pack)Walt Disney Home Entertainment2011/Rated PG-13/109 minsList Price: $44.99 – Now AvailableDoes anyone remember an NBC TV series from back in the eighties called The Powers of Matthew Star? It featured a young Peter Barton as a High School kid who began to manifest incredible abilities and discovered he was the member of a Royal family on an alien planet. Sharing his secret was the school janitor, Louis Gossett, Jr., who served as his mentor and would guide him in the ways of their planet. When I heard the premise of I Am Number Four, it was nearly impossible for me not think of that short-lived sci-fi series. And to be honest, the final product ain't much different. Instead of being hunted by FBI agents, the teenager from another world, played here by Alex Pettyfer, is running from an evil alien race out to kill him.

Linda Blair
Fred Prays for the Day Hell Night Gets Re-Issued
Linda Blair
What are you all doing out front of my house on a cold night like tonight? You want to hear about another movie from back in the day? Don’t you have school or something? Ok, I guess I can spare a few minutes to share another forgotten gem with you, but then it’s straight to bed…for me, anyway.

I think it’s safe to say that Linda Blair and I have pretty much grown up together, albeit on different sides of the camera. While I was toiling in the multi-media club in high school making movies for the classes she was in Hollywood making movies for the masses, but we were on the same ship. From the Exorcist movies, Born Innocent, Sarah T.–Portrait of an Alcoholic, Roller Boogie, Ruckus, Savage Streets, Night Patrol, all the way up to All is Normal…I’ve pretty much seen it all.

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (Deluxe Edition) - DVD Review
The final chapter? Yeah, right. As long as old hockey face keeps raking in the dough we.re stuck with him. Blu-Ray Review: Jason Voorhees Returns in Killer Cut of ‘Friday the 13th’
Chicago – The reboot of “Friday the 13th” was another financially successful notch in the belt of Platinum Dunes, the film company behind the remakes of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” “The Hitcher,” and “The Amityville Horror”. Making $90 million worldwide and more domestically than any previous Jason Voorhees movie (that didn’t include Freddy Krueger), “Friday the 13th” has a following that will be ecstatic with the excellent Blu-Ray release for the slasher title.

Blu-Ray Rating: 3.5/5.0 The Blu-Ray of “Friday the 13th” delivers everything fans could ask for. Not only do they present a longer and better cut of the film in the 9-minutes-longer “Extended Cut,” but the special features enhance the “Friday the 13th” experience and the technical transfer is nearly flawless.

Friday the 13th was released on Blu-Ray on June 16th, 2009.

As for the film itself, my response to “Friday the 13th” is mixed at best. I love...
