Before becoming an actor he was with the Metropolitan Police for five years, including undercover with football hooligans around the Italia 90 World Cup.

James Bannon wrote the original story to the film I.D which gained a theatrical release in 1995. His autobiography "Running With The Firm" was released in 2013. The book was based on his experiences working as an undercover police officer infiltrating Millwall football hooligans between 1987-1989.
