Of East Indian descent, Balgobin settled in Los Angeles in 1983 and began her acting career.

Featured in three films directed by Alex Cox: El reclamador (1984), Straight to Hell (1987), and Repo Chick (2009).

Appeared in back-to-back films starring Anthony Michael Hall: Ciencia loca (1985) and Lluvia de plomo (1986).

Writer-director John Hughes cast Balgobin in Ciencia loca (1985) after seeing her in El reclamador (1984), in which she played a similarly tough, punkish character.
