‘The Surrender’ Review (Shudder)
Image
Stars: Colby Minifie, Kate Burton, Chelsea Alden, Vaughn Armstrong, Riley Rose Critchlow, Mia Ellis, Lola Prince Kelly | Written and Directed by Julia Max

When the family patriarch dies, a grieving mother and daughter risk their lives to perform a brutal resurrection ritual and bring him back from the dead.

When I selected The Surrender for viewing on Shudder, little did I expect the emotional rollercoaster that awaited me. With a running time of 96 minutes, Julia Max delivers a truly profound and powerful insight into grief and the demands of palliative care on the family as well as the patient, something rarely seen within the horror genre.

The script also effectively shows how memories of the same event can be changed through different perspectives, in this case when it comes to a daughter idolising her father over her mother, alongside the tensions that arise from parents trying to protect their children...

“It’s just all about storytelling”: The Surrender Stars Colby Minifie and Kate Burton and Director Julia Max on the Chilling Indie Horror (Interview)
Image
Starring The Boys breakout Colby Minifie and veteran actress Kate Burton (Scandal), the psychological horror film The Surrender was one of the biggest breakouts of this year’s SXSW Film Festival. Our review called the film “a great entry in the canon of recent indie horror” and said that director Julia Max “manages to achieve a tone that feels genuinely sinister and also very effectively sad.”

We got to speak with Minifie, Burton, and Max about The Surrender, why they think personal, emotional horror like the film is so effective, and the liberating feeling of working in a two-hander. Check out the interview here:

The Surrender Interview

FandomWire: In many ways, I think it would be fair to say that The Surrender is a drama under the guise of a horror film. Why do you find this character-driven approach to horror so refreshing?

‘The Surrender’ Trailer Teases A Ritual To Remember…
Kate Burton and Colby Minifie in The Surrender (2025)
The horrific experience of grief is a pervasive theme in the horror genre, no matter how far back you look. Feeling like your heart is being torn from your chest after the loss of a loved one is a subjectively awful experience that varies from person to person. In her feature film debut, The Surrender, which world premiered at SXSW 2025, writer and director Julia Max tackles portraying her own experience with grief through the lens of an exhausting ritual and a deeply strained mother-daughter relationship.

In the film:

A fraught mother-daughter relationship is put to a terrifying test when the family patriarch dies, and the grieving mother hires a mysterious stranger to bring her husband back from the dead. As the bizarre and brutal resurrection spirals out of control, both women must confront their differences as they fight for their lives—and for each other.

This actor showed up in The Original Series, DS9, Voyager, Enterprise, Insurrection, and more

Numerous actors appeared in several of the series that followed Star Trek: The Original Series, among them Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, Jonathan Frakes, Vaughn Armstrong, Randy Oglesby, Steve Rankin, Tim Russ, Clint Howard, Armin Shimerman, and Lee Arenberg. And a few guest-starred in The Original Series And several of the shows that followed, including Barrett-Roddenberry, Howard, and the late Joseph Ruskin.

Ruskin’s direct association with Star Trek spanned from 1968 to 2001, as he appeared on Tos, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise, as well as two video games and the feature film, Star Trek: Insurrection. His first appearance, as Galt in the second-season Tos episode “The Gamesters of Triskelion,” was probably his most famous outing. Shudder Acquires SXSW Horror Film ‘The Surrender,’ Sets May Release Date
Image
Coming off its March 9 world premiere at SXSW, “The Surrender” has found a distributor and streaming home. Shudder, AMC’s horror-centric streaming service, announced its acquisition of the film Wednesday, and said it would release it on May 23.

“‘The Surrender’s’ fusion of body horror and the supernatural crafts an atmospheric descent into the abyss of loss and consequence, brought to life with brilliant performances from Colby Minifie and Kate Burton,” said Emily Gotto, SVP of Shudder Acquisitions and Production. “This is bold, audacious storytelling — one that lingers long after the credits fade — and announces the arrival of Julia Max as a striking new voice in the genre.”

Written and directed by Julia Max, “The Surrender” follows a mother and daughter whose already fraught relationship is put to the test when their family patriarch dies and the mother hires a stranger to bring her dead husband back to life. The...

The Surrender (2025) ‘SXSW’ Movie Review: When Grief Becomes A Hound From Hell
Julia Max
What is grief but love persevering? Well, in Julia Max’s visceral, uncompromising world of “The Surrender” (2025), grief also tears you from the inside out. It stalks your waking senses like a ravenous demon and upends your perception of every memory associated with the people you are mourning. Max does not ease us into these discomfiting emotions, as “The Surrender” opens with a revolting image of something feasting on a body, its skin bearing the gnarly evidence of being ripped and possessed. Cut to Megan (Colby Minifie), who has recently arrived at her parents’ place to look after her ailing father, Robert (Vaughn Armstrong). Anxious and suffocated due to her overbearing mother Barbara (Kate Burton), Megan wades through this difficult time in distress, oscillating between emotions that end up forming a noxious cocktail.

Megan and Barbara’s intense, contentious dynamic is the core of “The Surrender,” as this fraught relationship...

The Surrender Review: Grief Gone Wrong and Occult Rituals Abound in Indie Supernatural Slow Burn [SXSW 2025]
Where would modern Horror be without characters tearing open their chests to wallow in the cosmically unending cycle of grief? Death is the cornerstone of the genre but where classics of the genre were concerned with the fear of dying, contemporary cinema has largely fixed its gaze on the therapeutic journey of mourning. Julia Max’s grief procedural, The Surrender, is a meditation on the shifting memories of the ones we lose, the torturous journey of accepting the reality of that loss, and a gory odyssey through the hidden world of the occult. How far would you go to see your loved ones again?

Written and directed by Max, in her feature film debut, The Surrender concerns a mother and daughter desperately clinging to the frays of a tortured relationship in the wake of their patriarch’s passing. Megan (Colby Minifie, The Boys) left home before her father’s illness...

‘The Surrender’ Review: Julia Max Explores Grief And Loss In A Bloody Supernatural Horror – SXSW
Image
Female-facing horror finds a striking new voice in Julia Max, making her feature debut at SXSW with The Surrender, which, if you can accept the interpretation of David Cronenberg’s The Brood as his idea of a body-horror Kramer Vs Kramer, functions similarly as a bloody genre reworking of Postcards from the Edge. Notionally, it’s a film about grief and how the death of a father reverberates around a tight-knit family that has drifted apart. Max handles that very well, but the real meat is in the story of a mother and daughter who find that his sudden absence opens up a whole other can of worms.

To keep you on your toes, Max opens the film with a bang; following a trail of blood on what looks to be floor of a cave or crypt, the camera finds a frightening demonic creature gnawing away at a human body.

A Lord Of The Rings Actor Wants To Return To The Star Trek Universe
Image
In Peter Jackson's 2001 fantasy epic "The Lord of he Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring," actor John Rhys-Davies played the role of Gimli the Dwarf, an axe-wielding warrior who served as a gruff, comedic counterpoint to the otherwise po-faced and poised characters. Rhys-Davies reprised the role in the two follow-up films, as well as in several "Lord of the Rings" spinoff video games. He also played ancillary characters like Gloin and Treebeard. His association with "Lord of the Rings" would be an impressive pop milestone for any actor, but Rhys-Davies has also enjoyed a hugely long career with appearances in dozens of other notable pop properties over several decades.

In addition to "Lord of the Rings," Rhys-Davies has costarred in several Indiana Jones movies (including "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny"), voiced characters in high-profile Disney films, and acted in dozens of fun horror movies and adventure flicks.

7 Times Harry Kim Deserved A Promotion On Star Trek: Voyager
Image
During Star Trek: Voyager's seven years in the Delta Quadrant, there were plenty of times when Ensign Harry Kim (Garrett Wang) deserved a promotion, but didn't get it. Ensign Kim's elusive second pip has persisted for so long that it's become a running joke in Star Trek fandom, with Wang himself referring to his character as the "eternal ensign" as co-host of The Delta Flyers podcast with Star Trek: Voyager's Tom Paris actor Robert Duncan McNeill. Even when Paris is re-promoted in Star Trek: Voyager's season 6 finale, "Unimatrix Zero", Kim points out being skipped over for advancement.

There was never one singular, concrete reason that Harry Kim was never promoted in Star Trek: Voyager. One behind-the-scenes explanation points to Voyager producer Brannon Braga insisting that "somebody's gotta be the ensign", equating Ensign Kim with Star Trek: The Next Generation's Wesley Crusher (Wil Wheaton) or Star Trek:...

Best Star Trek: Voyager Episode From Each Of The Show's 7 Seasons
Image
Captain Janeway faced unique challenges in the Delta Quadrant with compassion, connection, and tough decisions. Season 4 introduced Seven of Nine, enhancing Voyager's story with complex characters and fresh dynamics. Voyager's best episodes showcased moral dilemmas, character development, and alliances with new alien species.

The best episodes from each of Star Trek: Voyager's seven seasons represent the unique challenges faced by Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) and the USS Voyager crew as the only Starfleet vessel in the Delta Quadrant. Compassion and connection were part of Voyager's story from the jump, as a diminished Starfleet crew needed to join forces with Commander Chakotay's (Robert Beltran) Maquis crew in order to survive in a far-flung corner of the galaxy, populated with brand-new Star Trek aliens, like Talaxian chef Neelix (Ethan Phillips) and psychic Ocampa Kes (Jennifer Lien). Each week, Voyager encountered new moral dilemmas unique to the Delta Quadrant, but unmistakably Star Trek in nature.

Every Star Trek Character Played By Suzie Plakson
Image
Suzie Plakson has played multiple characters in Star Trek, including a Vulcan, a half-Klingon/half-human, a member of the Q Continuum, and an Andorian. Lt. Selar, portrayed by Plakson, appears in one episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation as part of the medical team on the USS Enterprise-d. Miss Q, another character played by Plakson, appears in an episode of Star Trek: Voyager and has a romantic connection with Q in the Q Continuum.

Suzie Plakson has played four different Star Trek characters throughout her career. Because of the often elaborate make-up and prosthetics necessary for Star Trek aliens, actors can often portray multiple characters without causing confusion. Many actors, such as Jeffrey Combs, Vaughn Armstrong, and Marc Alaimo have taken on multiple Star Trek roles over the course of their careers. Suzie Plakson's Star Trek characters include a Vulcan, a half-Klingon/half-human, a member of the Q Continuum,...

All 12 Star Trek Characters Played by Vaughn Armstrong
Image
Vaughn Armstrong has played 12 different characters in 27 episodes of Star Trek, making him one of the most prolific actors in the series. Armstrong's characters have ranged from Klingons to Cardassians to Romulans, often requiring extensive make-up and prosthetics. His most well-known role is Admiral Maxwell Forrest in Star Trek: Enterprise, where he played a key recurring character who supported Captain Jonathan Archer.

Throughout Star Trek's long history, several actors have appeared as multiple characters in various Trek shows, but Vaughn Armstrong has appeared more than most. Beginning with a one-episode Klingon role on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Vaughn appeared in 27 episodes of Star Trek and played a total of twelve different characters. Even prolific Trek actor Jeffrey Combs hasn't racked up as many roles as Armstrong, although many of Combs' roles may be more well-known. Vaughn has played mostly aliens throughout his Trek career, many of which...

Worf's Star Trek Greatness Was Set Up By Tng's First Klingon Episode
Image
Lieutenant Worf began as a background character in Tng, but developed into one of Star Trek's most popular characters. In "Heart of Glory," Worf discovers the dishonesty of the Klingons and realizes the importance of honor and loyalty. Worf's character helped change the portrayal of Klingons from villains to allies, and he struggled with balancing his Klingon roots and loyalty to Starfleet.

The great Klingon warrior Lieutenant Worf (Michael Dorn) would become was glimpsed in Star Trek: The Next Generation's first Kliingon-centric episode. Tng may have gotten off to a somewhat shaky start, but it introduced some of Star Trek's most beloved and iconic characters. Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and his USS Enterprise-d crew are now as legendary as Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and his Enterprise crew. While it may not have been apparent from Tng season 1, Worf would eventually become one of Star Trek...

Star Trek's Klingon Homeworld Almost Had A Very Different Name
Image
Tng season 1 explored character backstories, with "Heart of Glory" revealing more about Worf's loyalty to the Federation and desire to connect with his own people. The Klingon homeworld was almost named Kling, but the behind-the-scenes team didn't like the way it sounded, so it was never referenced again. Star Trek VI established Kronos as the official name of the Klingon homeworld, although the spelling Qo'noS is considered more consistent with the Klingon language.

Star Trek: The Next Generation almost gave the Klingon homeworld a very different name. Although the Klingons had been antagonists for Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) on Star Trek: The Original Series, Tng established that the Federation had achieved a shaky peace with the Klingons. Following the adventures of Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and the USS Enterprise-d, Tng also introduced the first Klingon to serve in Starfleet, Lt. Worf (Michael Dorn).

Although Tng season 1 was...

Every Commodore In Star Trek
Image
Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton) is the latest Star Trek character to be promoted to the role of Commodore, following in the footsteps of many Starfleet officers. The Commodore rank is one of many Naval terms adopted by Starfleet over the years, and Geordi is the first regular Trek character to be given the rank. A Commodore is placed between Captain and Rear Admiral in both the real-life Navy, and the fictional Starfleet, and is the most junior of the flag officer ranks.

In Naval terms, a Commodore is the officer in charge of more than one ship. As the officer in charge of the Athan Prime Fleet Museum, Geordi earned his Commodore rank because he's in charge of the various legendary starships housed in the museum's collection. While the Commodore rank is relatively rare in both the modern Navy, and the history of Starfleet, Geordi isn't the only character to hold the rank.

Star Trek: What A Commodore Rank Means
Image
The Star Trek franchise has included a number of characters with the rank of Commodore over the years, but what exactly is a Commodore, and what does it mean to be one in Starfleet? Star Trek generally takes the names of its officer rankings from those used in real-life Navies; Ensign, Lieutenant, Commander, Captain, and so on. Commodore is no different from this, and while the rank is rare, it is still used by multiple Navies today. The same holds true in the Star Trek franchise, with Commodore cropping up rarely in various projects over the years.

Most Star Trek Commodores have been minor characters, and a good number of them appeared in Star Trek: The Original Series, like Commodore Matthew Decker (William Windom) or Commodore Robert Wesley (Barry Russo). Commodore has also been used for more major characters, however, such as Maxwell Forrest (Vaughn Armstrong) from Star Trek: Enterprise,...

27 Klingons Worf Killed In Star Trek (& Why)
Image
Starfleet's first ever Klingon officer, Captain Worf (Michael Dorn) has killed around 27 Klingons during his history in Star Trek. While commanding the USS Defiant, Worf was even accused of killing 441 Klingon civilians, but this was revealed to be an elaborate deception on the part of the Klingon Empire to discredit Starfleet's highest-profile Klingon officer. For a society that is defined by both combat and honor, it's hardly surprising that Worf racked up some such a high kill count when it came to his fellow Klingons.

In Star Trek: The Next Generation, Worf's service record earned a black mark from Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), who objected to Worf killing a fellow Klingon while in Starfleet uniform, regardless of the shared traditions. With one or two notable exceptions, the killings committed by Worf after this admonishment were done so in the line of duty. Here are the estimated 22 Klingons that Worf...

Brent Spiner Wants A Star Trek Spin-Off Series About Data's Creator Noonian Soong

As of this writing, actor Vaughn Armstrong still holds the record for the most number of characters throughout "Star Trek." Jeffrey Combs technically might have Armstrong beat, but that's only if you count multiple identical clones as separate roles.

Of the main cast, however, Brent Spiner currently holds the record for playing the greatest number of characters. Apart from his central role as the android Data on "Star Trek: The Next Generation," Spiner also played his own evil twin brother, Lore, a Data prototype named B-4 (in "Star Trek: Nemesis"), and the androids' creator Dr. Noonien Soong. On "Star Trek: Enterprise," he played Dr. Arik Soong, an ancestor of Noonien, who was a villain keen on eugenics. Enterprise's Klingon First Contact Has A Cool Star Trek Easter Egg
Image
The pilot episode of Star Trek: Enterprise, "Broken Bow," depicted First Contact between Humankind and the Klingon Empire, and also contained an Easter egg that honored the writer of Star Trek's best Klingon stories. Enterprise bridged the gap between Star Trek: First Contact and Star Trek: The Original Series by depicting the early days of Starfleet and the eventual foundation of the United Federation of Planets. The opening episode depicted the historic first meeting between Starfleet and the Klingon Empire, when the crew of the Enterprise Nx-01 was tasked with taking a wounded Klingon warrior back home to Qo'noS.

Klaang (Tommy 'Tiny' Lister Jr.) was a Klingon courier who held information about attempts by a Suliban terrorist organization, the Cabal to destabilize the Klingon Empire. Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula), driven by Human resentment for Vulcans post-First Contact, was determined to complete his mission when Klaang was recaptured by the Suliban.

Enterprise Explained Why Star Trek's Vulcans Feared Humans
Image
The three-part Vulcan saga in Star Trek: Enterprise season 4 explained why the 22nd century era Vulcans feared humans. The Enterprise season 4 episodes "The Forge," "Awakening," and "Kir'Shara," introduced the younger version of Star Trek: The Original Series icon T'Pau (Kara Zediker). With the help of Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) and T'Pol (Jolene Blalock), T'Pau was able to restore the teachings of Surak and expose a conspiracy between the Vulcan High Command and the Romulan Star Empire.

In Star Trek's timeline, Enterprise picks up less than a century after the events of Star Trek: First Contact, when Dr. Zephram Cochrane (James Cromwell) achieved Mankind's first successful warp flight, which brought the curious Vulcans to Earth. In Enterprise's mid-22nd century, however, relations between humans and Vulcans were far from idyllic. United Earth's Starfleet, and Captain Archer in particular, were hostile toward Vulcans, who they felt were restricting human ambition to explore the galaxy.

Enterprise Introduced The Young Version Of A Tos Vulcan Icon
Image
Star Trek: Enterprise season 4 reintroduced T'Pau (Kara Zediker), the younger version of the revered Vulcan icon played by Celia Lovsky in Star Trek: The Original Series. T'Pau was crucial to the Enterprise season 4 Vulcan-centric three-episode story arc, "The Forge," "Awakening," and "KirShara." Those episodes also featured notable guest stars in Robert Foxworth, who previously played Admiral Leyton on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, as Administrator V'Las, and Todd Stashwick, who now embodies Captain Liam Shaw in Star Trek: Picard season 3, as Talok.

T'Pau's first appearance was in the Star Trek: The Original Series classic, "Amok Time." Described as "all of Vulcan in one package" and the only person to ever turn down a seat on the Federation council, T'Pau officiated the kal-if-fee ritual combat between Spock (Leonard Nimoy) and Captain James T. The Best One-Off Characters In Star Trek: Voyager
Image
Across its seven seasons, "Star Trek: Voyager" followed the crew of the titular Starfleet vessel as it traversed the faraway Delta Quadrant to return home to Federation space. Led by Kate Mulgrew as Captain Kathryn Janeway, "Star Trek: Voyager" featured a memorable ensemble cast as the starship braved dangerous territory throughout its long journey. However, as beloved as the principal cast is, there are plenty of one-off guest stars on"Voyager" that helped elevate the show to new heights.

Kate Mulgrew Explains Why She Never Directed An Episode Of Star Trek [Exclusive]
Image
"Star Trek" is notoriously kind to its cast. If an actor manages to secure a small role in one episode of "Star Trek," it becomes more likely that they will be invited back for reappearances, either as the same character or as a new character. Actor Mark Lenard appeared on the original series as a Romulan commander, only to be recast later as Spock's father Sarek. Armin Shimerman appeared as both a talking treasure chest (!) and as a Ferengi before landing the regular role of Quark on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." Jeffrey Combs has appeared as multiple alien/computer characters on various Trek programs, including three regular roles on "Deep Space Nine." Actor Vaughn Armstrong currently holds the record, having played 12 different Trek characters.

This loyalty also extends to any cast members willing to make the move from acting to directing. Leonard Nimoy famously directed two Trek feature films...

Which Star Trek Actor Appeared In The Most Episodes?
Image
This is something of a bar trivia question, but which actor would you suspect has appeared in "Star Trek" the most?

Thanks to the franchise's longevity, and long-held, bloody-minded insistence toward continuity, an actor can return to multiple "Trek" shows over the course of many decades. As such, some actors who signed on to play certain roles in their teen years may still be making appearances on "Star Trek: Picard" 35 years later. The makers of "Trek" also tends to be very loyal to its actors, often bringing back performers to fill central roles years after they showed up as a background character. Armin Shimerman, for instance, appeared as a talking treasure chest and as a random Ferengi character on "Next Generation" years before being cast as Quark on "Deep Space Nine." And Tim Russ was once a terrorist on the Enterprise prior to playing Tuvok on "Voyager."

Some actors, while never becoming central characters,...

Sci-Fi Spoof Featuring 42 Star Trek Actors To Premiere This August
This is one for the C-movie connoisseurs among you.

For those of you who don’t know (you won’t), there’s a new sci-fi spoof on the way called Unbelievable!!!!! It stars Snoop Dogg, 42 former Star Trek actors, Michael Madsen, and a ficus on a skateboard. That ought to answer all of your questions.

In the can for what appears to have been an eternity (some of the footage dates back as far as 2013), the film does at last have a release date. I say at last, but I’m not sure it was at the top of anyone’s list of movie treasure troves. Anyway, if you’re feeling particularly trashy (there’s no shame in that), sit down for Unbelievable!!!!! in an online premiere this August 1st. The premiere will also come with a virtual convention.

Two more items on the agenda to go through. One is the trailer,...

Indie Rights Picks Up ‘Star Trek’ Parody Film ‘Unbelievable!!!!!’ Featuring Former Cast Members Plus Snoop Dogg
Image
Indie Rights has acquired domestic distribution rights to Unbelievable!!!!!, the Steven L. Fawcette-helmed sci-fi film that stars Snoop Dogg and over forty former Star Trek cast members from the movies and TV series. The company will also launch foreign sales at the Virtual Cannes Film Market on June 24.

The pic stars Kirk Stillwood, a puppet created by the Chiodo Brothers. It follows the crazy exploits of four off-beat astronauts (one is a marionette) who travel to the Moon on a rescue mission to determine the fate of two Space Agency comrades who have not been heard from in several days. The individuals they find at the Lunar Base are not who they appear to be and, through acts of trickery and deception, nearly succeed in killing them. Soon the astronauts find themselves trying to save the Earth from Plant Aliens!

Additional co-stars include Michael Madsen, and Gilbert Gottfried, with cameos from Robert Davi,...

Dozens Of ‘Star Trek’ Actors Converge For Snoop Dogg’s Parody Pic ‘Unbelievable’ – Watch The Trailer
It’s a Trekkie delight. No idea why so many Star Trek actors thought this was a great idea, but they did. Snoop Dogg seems to be the furthest thing away from sci-fi as you can get, but he’s one of the stars Unbelievable, a parody film that uses a puppet for James T. Kirk. Watch the trailer for below.

The original score was written/composed by Emmy-winning, Oscar-nominated Gerald Fried — the last living composer from the original Star Trek series.

Snoop Dogg executive produced the film from writer-director Steven Fawcette that also stars Nichelle Nichols (who also co-produced), Angelique Fawcette (also a producer), Michael Madsen and Robert Davi. Also in the film are Casper Smart, Sam Asghari, Gilbert Gottfried and newcomer Katarina Van Derham.

Here are some of the 40-plus Star Trek actors who also appear: Garrett Wang, Chase Masterson Tim Russ, Armin Shimerman, Vaughn Armstrong, Gary Graham,...

Star Trek Voyager: 10 great guest performances
Juliette Harrisson Nov 30, 2016

Remember when Sarah Silverman was in Star Trek: Voyager? We salute that and 9 other ace guest turns in the show...

Star Trek: Voyager does not share the good reputation of its predecessors The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine, with some fans disappointed that the inherent conflict between Starfleet and Maquis characters was not explored further, others perhaps put off by the really rather dull and occasionally ridiculous second season. However, Voyager was as capable as any other Star Trek series of producing memorable stories and excellent performances, and for those of us for whom it is our favourite branch of the Star Trek franchise (yes, we do exist) it is worth celebrating some of the things it did really well – in this case, the actors and actresses who came to join the show for guest performances.

My Top Ten Favourite Episodes of Star Trek: Voyager
It’s day four of Star Trek Week! I see Graham and Ryan checking the clock and looking annoyed. Don’t worry guys, it’s almost over!

Star Trek: Voyager (Voy) came around during a period of maximum Star Trek saturation. Voyager premiered only a year after Tng ended and only two years after DS9 premiered. This is most likely the point in which “Star Trek fatigue” took root, but more on that tomorrow. Star Trek: Voyager debuted on January 16, 1995 with the episode “Caretaker” and, like its sister shows, would last seven seasons for a total of 172 episodes before closing with “Endgame” on May 23, 2001.

Hit the jump for my favourite episodes!

My Top Ten Favourite Episodes of Star Trek: Enterprise
Here it is folks, the final day of Star Trek Week!

Star Trek: Enterprise (Ent), or simply Enterprise as it was known for the first two years, was the series that many fans blame for killing Star Trek. It premiered the same year Voyager ended and by that point it was felt that Star Trek in general needed a break. Waiting a few years to make people hungry for Star Trek again would not have been a bad thing in my opinion. That said, I always enjoyed Ent and was disappointed that it wasn’t given seven seasons like its brethren. That’s right, Enterprise was the first series since the original that did not last seven seasons.

The premiere episode, Broken Bow, debuted on September 26, 2001 to big ratings but for the next four years those ratings would slide down and never recover. In fact, during the later part of season three,...

Forrest character recurring?
Vaughn Armstrong, who will appear in the pilot of "Enterprise" Sept. 26 as Adm. Forrest, said he hopes his new character will be a recurring one on the show. "That's what they're sort of hinting at, but they're making no promises," said Armstrong, who has made several guest appearances on "Star Trek: Voyager" in the past, including as a Klingon in the series finale, "Endgame." "But apparently, whenever (the Enterprise crew) comes back to Earth, they've got to deal with me. I hope there will be a few times they will deal with me, as a face on a screen at least. I don't know if he'll be Earthbound forever, but he is the head of Starfleet, so he is somebody." Armstrong said that the feel for "Enterprise" is quite different than the other spinoff shows, more specifically, "Star Trek: The ...

Alexander Siddig Exclusive Interview; The Cairo Time Star Opens Up About Deep Space Nine, Miral, His Sci-Fi Obsession, More
Dr. Julian Bashir logged some serious travel as the chief medical officer of space station Deep Space Nine and the USS Defiant. The man who played the good doctor for seven seasons of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Alexander Siddig, has collected a huge stash of frequent flier miles on his own, lately.

Collider caught up with Siddig during his worldwide tour to promote Cairo Time which opened this past weekend in limited release to the highest per theater average ($62,250 at five frequently sold-out locations for a $12,450 per screen) of any film in release over the frame. Hit the jump for the audio and transcript of the interview and for all things Deep Space Nine, his controversial new film Miral with Freida Pinto and director Julian Schnabel and whether he’s been approached about taking part in Jj Abrams’ Star Trek sequel.

The 44-year-old is best known to Star Trek...

Five: Late Night TV Gems
You can’t beat late night television to catch some of the oddities of the film world. Series’ like Moviedrome and Mondo Macabro presented some weird and wonderful films, but sheer scheduling alone would bring the occasional strange delight our way. The only bonus of insomnia was that I’d never miss these films when they were on and it’s how I got into loving film, the veritable B-movie banquet that was the early hours So, here are my choices of five late night TV gems:

Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark (1973) Now you see them, now you don’t…now you die

Be afraid, be very afraid in this very effective made-for-tv movie which has already made an entry in fistinface’s ‘Five: TV Movies Not About Eating Disorders’. I love cheesy TV movies but this is the rare thing of a darker, more original film and...
