In May 1999, he was sentenced to nine months for supplying a small amount of cocaine and cannabis to Mazher Mahmood, an undercover reporter working for the Sunday tabloid The News of the World.

In September 2000, he lost his appeal against his conviction for supplying drugs to a bogus Arab prince. He claimed that he was the victim of an unfair trial.

In January 2006, he was banned from driving for 16 months after being arrested for drink-driving. Magistrates ordered him to pay a £150 fine and £100 costs.

He is suing News Group Newspapers in relation to the phone hacking scandal, and them ruining his life and his acting career.
